For the record, I saw a lot of people talking about the YKK zippers or lack there of. I bought my travel pack a few months ago and my zippers are indeed YKK. I guess Nomatic transitioned to YKK zippers a little while ago, so if you are buying a new one, the zippers will be YKK. I’ve used this backpack for about 7 business trips already and absolutely love it. Keeps me organized and i really do love the self stand feature. The expansion allows me just to take a backpack for a 2-3 day work trip (I typically never need to wear a suit, but I can pack blazers and slacks in there no problem, and just steam/iron at the hotel). I agree with the criticism that its slightly on the heavy side, but that to me is worth the other features it provides. I got caught in a torrential downpour while in Italy and the PU coated zippers and tarpaline kept everything inside dry. I managed to get this back in February through Costco Next at a whopping discount ($170). At that price point, the bag is Super worth it, and I’m getting a ton of use out of it as an EDC and a travel pack. Couldn’t recommend it more!
Hey. How has your travel pack been holding up to scratches? I just got mine and I love the look. But a lot of reviews say it scratches easily because of the tarpaulin material and starts to look worn out.
Dude, thank you. I have been eyeing both of these and was beyond confused by the differences. This video really clears it up for me. I am still torn on which one to go with lol, but at least I understand the differences now.
I bought my Nomatic Travel Pack earlier this year on a super Costco deal and have flown 4 times with it now and it has been nothing but outstanding. I will say if you are just using it as a backpack it is kind of heavy. The TSA love it too, they always ask about it and are kind of fascinated with it. They are particularly impressed with the locking interior RFID pocket, that's one of my favorite features. Last trip I had it loaded to the max and had it up to about 27 pounds, that was something else.
The Nomatic Backpack takes me way back. This was my first real backpack that I got several years ago. I absolutely love the organization by far. I didn't really start looking into other bags until I used this for the first time on a flight and I had problems with leg space; it's too rigid. That's what led me to finding your channel sometime last year and boy what a rabbit hole it's been. You're totally right in that everything you do feature wise with a backpack usually comes with a trade off, which makes it so hard to find the perfect backpack (since everyone has different needs and wants). I own several bags now as a result, each with their own fun quirks and different use cases. I've never really been able to find a backpack that is of similar organization to the Nomatic, but being versatile enough for travel/EDC/work and also being lighter in weight. I think I've come to the conclusion now that maybe I'm looking for a unicorn. I remember a podcast you had with Bellroy a while back and their design choice of not using a lot of organizers was interesting. It didn't make complete sense to me at the time but eventually it did. Having more open space creates more opportunities in how you pack the bag because it's not prescriptive in how you have to pack versus how you want to pack. Now I'm just using pouches to organize all my smaller items instead of looking for a bag that has built-in organizers like the Nomatic. The biggest plus being now I can just move those external organizers/pouches to my different plethora of bags that I own. It's definitely been quite a journey figuring out what I thought I wanted and what I really need/wanted as I tested out different bags for different situations over time. That's the end of my Ted Talk :)
This comments resonates a lot with me. There is a stage of the rabbit hole with all the fancy stuff/pockets, admin compartments. After some time, it is mostly about a quick access outside, laptop section and space for the rest. The small things fall into a pouch and the rest of the space is free to use. After so much organization tech cable storage and stuff end up just with the Wandrd Pouch. Microfiber inside, waterproof in the outside. Basically slim and can be thrown everywhere. And that makes almost any backpack work. I am always not torn by Aer or Nomatic because that admin panel would just be wasted space and weight.
I prefer bags with their own admin panels.. especially as I'm probably going to have just one such bag. I'd say having different pouches for different things (except underwear and bath/hygiene items) is just a waste of money.
Aaron, long time lurker, first time commenting. I bought the Nomatic travel backpack a couple of months ago and it has been spectacular for my EDC. It holds all of my tech gear, umbrella and water bottle without any issues and its super comfortable (I wear a suit everyday). For travel and security is very convenient due to the compartments and the extra space. I do think that the bag isn’t ideal for business trips since it does get really heavy and it becomes a challenge to store a business suit and shoes but it works well for casual-short trips. One complain from the bag is that when you connect it with a carry-on, some items may move since the bag will be resting sideways. Overall, very happy with this bag!
I was a backer on Kickstarter when these bags got released in ~2017. For many years, this 20L->30L travel bag was what I used for business/leisure travel. I used all of the organization since I carry alot of tech. One main reason for my purchase was the expansion capability. I loved all of the features except for the shoulder strap stow-away feature which is way too clunky. The only real negative of the bag is that it's heavy (so many features, so many pockets). I felt that the interior materials were fine. The tarpaulin exterior is super water-resistant but can scratch up. They could have used beefier zippers since I was really stuffing the bag to capacity on certain trips. More bags should follow their design of the zipper tracks going around the water bottle holders and having the side access with the 4 zippers.
I've had the travel pack for a couple of years now. Went in eyes wide open of issues due to the nomad nation review. It is my work bag and love it for that as it looks smart and really fits my work environment while still being a backpack. The expansion is also very handy for when I need to take additional stuff (eg documents) to and from work. Main drawback is straps could be more comfortable and lack of anti dangle straps. One annoyance is that on budget airlines the expanded bag will not fit under a seat but the expansion is otherwise great. My Mrs also thinks it is far too heavy when she borrowed it. However, like I said, I love the bag even though it has quite a few faults. Definitely not for everyone.
Love the Travel Pack. As you said, for me the feature set with being able to fully open the laptop compartment, open clamshell, and have tech organizing all in one more than makes up for the finnicky stowaway straps and proprietary materials. Biggest benefit for me is being able to carry a 16" macbook pro (personal), 14" macbook pro (work), and an ipad mini all in that laptop compartment. No other backpack I've seen has been able to do that while also offering significant space for everything else.
For what it’s worth, the nomatic website specifies that both these bags use YKK zips, not sure if that’s just in some areas but not all or if they’ve updated since you got the bags you currently have, but worth mentioning. I’ve had a lot of nomatic products over the years - I’ve used the backpack here before and I currently use the carry on pro luggage and the navigator 15L. And this is probably an unpopular opinion but I like the navigator way more than these two. Best laptop protection in an EDC I’ve owned, better quick access and while I appreciate the pockets,l these have, when you don’t have 14 separate things to put in each one it eventually begins to feel like wasted space. I remember finding myself packing out my nomatic backpack with tech gear that I’d use maybe once a year because I just wanted something to fill the pocket (like why did I ever need a backup Bluetooth keyboard?!) The only thing the navigator doesn’t have that I wish did is the self stand. Anyways - these are great packs, I find the travel pack probably more useful/versatile, but to me they’re very niche to the “coffee shop tech bro” group.
I’m a pilot looking for a good back to travel with and this looks like a solid choice. I think the backpack is my preference. Great video. Perfect amount of humor but very informative and to the point. New subscriber
Hey Aaron, I’m thinking of purchasing the travel backpack but have now come across your own T22 backpack and thinking about that instead. Any update on when this is available if you live in UK (and price etc)? Thanks 😊

I have traveled the world with the large Travel Pack, and have also owned the Backpack. I can't stand the way it looks when I have a water bottle in the pocket -- that weird flap that juts out just de-sleeks the lines. But at least it has water bottle pockets, which are an absolute must-have for me. The overall style is nice, utilitarian. All that said, this is may be the most functional travel pack I've used to date -- and I've used a LOT of different packs for travel. Right now I'm trying my hand on my last few international trips with the Aer City Pack Pro, and it is so far about on par with the Travel Pack. That said, if I had to give one an edge, it's the Travel Pack, with its expansion. The expansion on the Travel Pack is also great for how it holds structure -- that is, it doesn't sag on me (at the expansion gusset) when it's expanded. Anyway, I like the Travel Pack so much that I also have the 14L version as one of my EDC backpacks, and it's also fantastic.
I recently discovered this channel and absolutely love the content! I’m a sucker for organization, I love being able to find things in my bag without looking around for it. I ordered the Nomatic backpack 20L through Costco Next for $140 and am super excited to get it in my hands! Although, I really really also like the look of your Fyro bag and would love to perhaps get my hands on that someday but I think the Nomatic backpack at $140 is quite a good deal for a quality bag and that will have to hold me over for now. I’m so excited for it to arrive
Love the videos. Quick question. Interested in the RS 15L v 20L. I primarily want to use for EDC for laptop and carrying files. My messenger bag is aging and it is becoming to heavy and uncomfortable to carry. Which one is the better use case?
Hey Aaron, quick question because I feel like you maybe covered it. Got the Nomatic Travel Pack for cheap on Costco Next but I notice some of the zippers (I believe the compression zipper) or the main gets kinda stuck on a corner and needs a hard pull and there's some material inside I think the zipper gets partially stuck on. The other side of the bag it doesn't do that even with the material under. Not sure about the other zipper if there's material getting stuck on. I feel this is normal as it happens on multiple zippers but just making sure. It's the same spot for both zippers. Is this normal for the Travel Packs? Or should I just make a warranty claim?
not sure tbh, I've also heard that Costco versions of Nomatic bags are different than their usual ones, you might want to check with their customer support to be sure
I’ve got the Costco version as well, and there are some differences. There are a few less pockets on it. The front compartment has only 7, and the middle compartment has only one mesh pocket on each side instead of two. The biggest difference is that the shoulder straps cannot be tucked out of the way. But on the other hand, the luggage pass through runs the other way, so it sits vertically on top of a roller bag instead of horizontally. I got it on eBay for around $100, and it looks new, so I’m quite happy with it.
Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of buying the travel pack, but I was not able to find information on whether it fits under the plane seats. Do you have any experience with it?
This review is much more informative than Nomatics own video. What size laptop can fit in the 14L vs 20L. I have 18" external portable monitor that I need to take along with with my 13.5" laptop. Thanks
Great review! I appreciate the simplicity and sleek design of the backpack compared to the travel pack, but I'm still undecided about which one to choose. Typically, I carry my laptop, charger, headphones, workout outfit, and shoes. Will the 'backpack' accommodate these items without bursting at the seams, or would the 'travel pack' be a better option? I prefer to bring only the essentials and avoid overpacking; I just want to make the optimal choice.
Hi, just saw this video yesterday and liked it a lot!!! Click on the link to check the bag you are building, but seems it's no longer available 😩, is there any way to get it still? Thanks!
Thanks for reaching out and wanting to support our launch! As you know, the Kickstarter is over, but we will be starting a post-Kickstarter-pre-sale in the upcoming weeks (for a few hundred units). Have the Travel Pack for about 2 years and love it very much. It keeps all my stuff well organized. Have used the for travel from 20L to 30L, to just have one bag. Carrying shoes in the bag makes it quite troublesome, but manageable. Been looking at the Backpack for the Tech Organization and to use for mostly work and use the Travel Pack for travelling.
Hey again! I know I have asked a question before. But how many books do you think would fit in the Nomatic Backpack 20 L? Books would be around 30x22x3cm. I need it to fit a minimum off 2 books, but 3-4 would be great. If it does fit I will buy the 100% buy it!
New subscriber here and loving the channel so far. I’ve had the travel pack for about 3 years and just now started using it a lot more and after watching a ton of your videos I think it might be time for a switch at a better price point. My question is, if I’m coming from the 20L travel pack - what would be your recommendation? Thanks!
Welcome to the community! I’d be happy to help your search but I need a bit more context - please tell me what sort of use case the bag is for and a few top features you want and I’ll do my best to
@@Nomads.Nation sure thing! I also joined the Newsletter but I can reply here. So My daily usage currently is a Matein backpack that I use for work that I haul my computer, iPad, two battery packs and some charging cables, and finally a tech pouch I’ve had forever. And then I also use the Nomatic travel pack (non-expanded) for my gym clothes and gym shoes. I’ve kept it all separate because when I tried condensing it into 1 - It just doesn’t work for me. I Hope this helps for further context and I look forward to your recommendation!
@@Lefty61219 got it! so you are looking for a ~20 liter that is more affordable. Mopak makes some nice looking bags ~$100 USD (th-cam.com/video/dnp1FnDE8og/w-d-xo.html) and I think the new Alpaka Metro Backpack Pro at $168 USD for the Axoflux version brings great value as well (th-cam.com/video/kpqtuCQN9QI/w-d-xo.html). Lastly I recommend checking out Tomtoc - great budget-friendly brand.
Hello I'm in a sticky situation i was thinking of buying the travel bag however the inner dimensions are one of my biggest need to knows for a bag and I need the expansion pocket and main pocket size separately so I can see if some of my existing tech cases and small items will fit however it seems impossible to find this info on the internet
In terms of quality of materials and build/construction, how would you rank these? Nomatic, Aer, Black Ember, Alpaka, Sympl. I realize they all have different features but I’m not as educated about range of materials used. Price and marketing aside, I’d prefer to get the bag with better build construction and material quality. Love your videos btw, keep up the awesome work!
thanks so much! This is not a definitive ranking, but I'd say Aer would be at the top, but all 5 brands build extremely well-built bags. Black Ember uses the best materials out of the bunch, but it doesn't always mean the value/functionality is there.
Hey man! I am really considering buying the Nomatic Backpack, for everyday use, and mostly for school use. But do you think the 20 liters will fit all my stuff like my laptop, lunch, pencil case, and maybe some clothes change for my gym class? Hope you think it will fit, because i will most likely buy it then!
Great video and am leaning towards a 20l travel pack as my next purchase but keen to hear your thoughts on a alternative, ideally one with good organisation, I’ve got a AER Xpac flight bag now but finding it too small when I need the extra space.
Go for it. I can't count how many backpacks I have tried, nothing comes close to the travel pack 20L for me. People are obsessed with Aer, evergoods etc. but this is the goat in my book.
CTB26 is wayy too big EDC for me, but many love it. You say you want a 20L travel bag but you have the Aer Flight Pack which is too small - but it's 20 liters as well 🤔
Back in your first review of the Nomatic Backpack there werent any alternative recommendations. to me its quite close but not there yet so im hoping to get alternatives to check out that are friendlier on the wallet. theres no 1 perfect backpack but generally im looking for; 1. pockets especially separate compartment for tablet and laptop. 2. self standing 3. water bottle pocket that holds 600ml - 1 litre. 4. clean looking with quick access. 5. as light as possible
I had 2 backpacks (they replaced one free of charge). I really really like them. But one thing is annoying: pulling the zipper around the top corners is hard. And thi is the Achilles' Verse of the bag. The zipper breaks here. One both bags I own. That’s als why I‘m looking for a replacement
Not a fan of the weight and aesthetics of these backpacks. But they definitely cover the worn look of it. I like the separate laptop area. So I’m sticking with the travel backpack between these two.
Got the travel pack last holiday season for it’s level of organization for all my tech gear. It does the job absolutely perfectly as my daily commuter bag in 20L and then when i travel quarterly for work i expand it and it’s now an all in one suit case/work bag. Only gripe for me is it says it fits up to a 16” laptop but my 16” gaming laptop is a hair too big to fit in the dedicated laptop sleeve. Luckily there are alternate options to make it fit still though!
@@chibuzo2010 so far so good. It’s only been on one plane. I take it to work with me every day though and it has held up nicely. I am a little cautious of how i move it and place it because of the reviews though lol. I work at an autobody shop and it is very dusty and the bag does collect dust a bit
Good comparison review. You mention - rightly - not the best or cleanest strap stow away into briefcase carry mode youve seen. What is your favourite/s for that? Seems difficult to implement while keeping a padded and air channelled back panel.
Thanks for this video, Aaron! The 20L Travel Pack was my gateway drug into the carry community and the first non-fashion backpack I bought as an adult. I purchased it new for $203 and it feels like I got my money's worth. I have many more bags now but I return to it regularly because of the extreme weather resistance & ease of packing. But I think it's due for an update. If they modernize the pocket layout (and make them accessible while the bag is on the trolley handle ffs), add proper quick access, remove some structure/weight, and improve the harness comfort, I'm probably a buyer for the right price. Oh, and make the water bottle pockets taller. So yeah a whole new bag and I'll probably buy it lol
Travel pack is my favourite backpack (as a techie), so underrated. The only thing I would change is a slightly large laptop compartment (16 inch laptops are a tad tight).
I’d like to see an updated review with the Costco (specific) version of thins called the “NOMATIC Essential Travel Pack” which seems to be lighter, and cheaper in literally every way. Cheap zippers, not lockable, waterproof? Flimsy material…
Yeah, someone could watch your review of the high end one in the video and buy the watered down version for $179 at Costco and think they are getting the same thing. Very shady on Nematic’s part IMO. Many thanks for your very detailed reviews, BTW
I really really like the travel pack, it ticks so many of my boxes; however - it has no waist straps built in (and romantic always seem to be out of stock for their accessory ones) and there’s no base pocket on the back, I like to slip my phone/passport in there in the airport
@@Nomads.Nation long shot, but do you have any recommendations? Basically the spec of the nomatic travel backpack but with waist straps and a useable back pocket?
@@christiansimmons630 the hard part is the 270 degree opening, only one I can think of that checks all those boxes is the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L
The only thing I do not like about backpacks that have that material is within years the material winds up peeling off it’s fantastic in the beginning, but it’s not good for duration. By the way, you do a fantastic job. I enjoy watching all your videos.
Thank you very much for your efforts - I really enjoy your videos! I don't know if it is ok to ask, but: Do you have any recommendations for a messenger bag that fits some school/ college stuff like 2 college blocks, a school book, 2 slim folders and a water bottle plus some place to spare for a pencil case and some smaller neccesties with strong focus on a slim or lean design? The ones you featured I saw so far were all fairly huge. I watched your Alpaka Elements Brief Pro review and was intrigued, but it is bigger than my leather messenger bag I carry for work (which fits everything I need). I take evening classes at the moment and am tired of switching out my stuff and hoped about upgrading a bit; since I don't carry a laptop and most of the reviewers here on youtube seem to solely focus on laptops but not on oldfashioned paper, I thought reaching out to my favourite one might be worth a shot. :) Edit: Spelling
thanks for the kind words dude! Check out this video, could be helpful - th-cam.com/video/PIIPk9CiLQk/w-d-xo.html Aside from that, check out the Alpaka Metro, Able Carry 13, or maybe the new Tokyo series from Bellroy (a few backpacks + messengers)
Aaron I’m looking for a bag that’s between 20l and less than 30l with a similar material like the nomatic for work. Must have water bottle holder and a quick access pocket. Any recommendations?
Love my Nomatic gear. Have the Nomatic travel 20l and Navigator carry-on. It boils down to use case. I'm a business traveler so this works perfect. I don't want bright orange x-pac, and the zippers feel quality. Shop costco next. Cheers.
@thomasbraun6603 How has your travel pack held up to scratches so far? I just got mine from Costco next, but I'm having some buyers remorse on how it will hold up to scratches
@@chibuzo2010 I have taken on a handful of flights with no issues. It looks new. I don't think you'll have an issue if you are careful not to drag it across cement or brick. Normal wear and tear shouldn't damage the bag in my experience.
I have the Travel Pack since 2017 (because I got it for a road trip on my bike then). it does its job but I’ve got to say that the Backpack looks sleeker for everyday work use
agreed, but smaller bags always look sleeker than bigger bags. The Travel Pack is bigger/more feature heavy/bulkier, so it suffers aesthetically from that
@@chibuzo2010 it’s not bad, to be honest. it was heavily-used for bike rides and held up pretty well for a good 3 years. I alternated between that and my Mission Workshop R8 Arkiv® but I’ve relegated them both into storage since late 2022. from time to time, I do check on my Travel Pack to ensure that it isn’t spoiled due to prolonged storage
Hello! Nice comparison video! I’m in need of a new backpack for my new laptop (legion 7i gen 9) that’s coming next week for my birthday. I need a bag that can fit my new laptop, can fit a lot of stuff with a lot of pockets. I’m a computer scientist college student who carries many things in a backpack, also don’t want something too heavy either. I narrowed it down to the best options for me: the Nomatic 20L Backpack, Nomatic 20L Travel Pack, Nomatic 30L Travel Bag, and the Timbuk2 Authority Laptop Backpack Deluxe. One of these shall be my new backpack. I am more favorable to the Travel Pack that can extend from 20L-30L though. What would you recommend and are there possible alternatives to get that is best suited for me. Note: Legion 7i gen 9 laptop dimensions (H x W x D): 17.6-19.8mm x 357.7mm x 262.5mm / 0.69″-0.78″ x 14.08″ x 10.33″
Thanks so much! I’m not sure about the laptop size but also might be worth checking out the Aer Pro Pack, Sympl Commuter Pack, and Fyro T22 (which for full disclosure is my bag)
@Nomads.Nation Fair point. Out of curiosity, what would be your go-to expansion backpack that can go from Daily to Travel? ( Besides de Fyro T22, of course)
@@jordibarguno truthfully there aren't really a lot of great options that I know of. Just shot our review of the Knack Pack Small Expandable today - can go from 17L to 27L... pretty great range tbh... Plus only weighs 2.6 lbs... Black Ember Forge has it's pros but it's so bulky/heavy.
@@Nomads.Nation okay thanks, a curious question, I currently have the mous backpack with lid. Im thinking of getting the gomatic travel back V2. Could you do a newer review of it? - Im gonna use it as a daily and use the 3L when away for a week

9:10 you mention Nomatic doesn’t do the best in regards to materials for their price point, especially when talking about the tech/laptop area. What suggestions do you have that would be better, but still have expandability, comfort, great for business, travel, and EDC (not too worried about weight per say), and have a lot of similar features as the Nomatic? I had been looking at Alpaka, Aer, and Knack; but I do carry a larger water bottle also (32oz max roughly). Love the channel, just started watching a couple days ago and already HOURS into them all, and some multiple times haha.
Welcome to the channel! You already nailed the alternatives, the only other one I'd say is the Peak Design Travel Backpack (has some expansion) and the Fyro T22 (which for transparency is my backpack).
@@Nomads.Nation I checked out the Fyro as well actually but feel it might be a bit thinner in the material compared to the others based on your review for durability? I’ll check out the PD Travel also! Cheers!

Been using the travel version since 2018, love it, but.... So let's collaborate bro, you def get it with bags. My background can contribute perhaps (and the shoulder straps stowage is clunky for sure, but allows you to capture the office audience (needs to be adult item).
Could be too soon to tell, however, I did get the one that's like a very pourous pseudo-waxed canvas; I bike 365 so I'll know soon, thanks!@@chibuzo2010
Nomatic succeeded in confusing every single reviewer with the second Zipper that opens the bag into 2 totally separate halfs. The default front opening is enough to utilize the bag in both slim and expanded formats. Just unzip and roll the divider mesh away to one side, unzip the expansion and VIOLA Yiu have a bigger bag! If I owned this, I would never use the middle clamshell access zipper.
14L has too narrow and poor padded straps and back, Navigator is not as versatile, but feels much more convenient on the back. Also Nomatic should improve materials to lower the weight.
Isn't there going to be a better bag coming in early 2024? Has decent expandability though not quite as much as the travel one, new modular water bottle holders, premium materials throughout, is way lighter and a new hatch access system. Can self stand too! Some dude from TH-cam is using his and his teams extensive experience and reviews of bags to build it.
Yeah, exactly why I ordered one on Kickstarter! The Nomatic or now Gomatic in the UK was one bag I was super interested in getting, but just didn't push me over the line. The Fyro T22 seems to have most of the pros, less of the cons and other extra great features. And just simply a more "considered" bag. BTW. Please don't release a V2 for at least 3 years! I hate it when that happens (i.e. in a year) as I feel bad for my old stuff when there is such an early refresh. Feel like I paid too much for a prototype then.
@@HumanBlur thanks so much! And don't worry - I am going to respect our backers. No V2's will be coming down the line for a while.
Couldn’t recommend it more!
oh yea, $170 is a stellar deal for this bag
Hey. How has your travel pack been holding up to scratches? I just got mine and I love the look. But a lot of reviews say it scratches easily because of the tarpaulin material and starts to look worn out.
Thanks for that info on Costco. I got mine for $199 for a good savings on a bag that i was going to pay $300 for. Kudos to you for sharing😊
Dude, thank you. I have been eyeing both of these and was beyond confused by the differences. This video really clears it up for me. I am still torn on which one to go with lol, but at least I understand the differences now.
happy to help!
Awesome! Glad to hear you are getting so much value out of it
how heavy would you say? like it for a daily carry travel hybrid
Loved the Ted Talk! 🔥
Awesome to hear, and thanks for watching for so long! Hopefully I’ll be seeing more comments from you 😜
not much of a commenter, but, love your review and appreciate the details of it all. Great job, thank you!!

You do a great job of making me even more indecisive. Now I have to watch more of your vids 😂
ha there's so many bags out there, I want to make sure you check them all out L)
Agreed that the bag has some very functional design choices
Definitely not for everyone.
so glad our review helped you find a bag you like!
Great points all around!
I think I like the Navigator more as well, solid pack (although still overpriced imo)
I’m a pilot looking for a good back to travel with and this looks like a solid choice. I think the backpack is my preference.
Great video. Perfect amount of humor but very informative and to the point.

Anyway, I like the Travel Pack so much that I also have the 14L version as one of my EDC backpacks, and it's also fantastic.
yea the water bottle holders can be a bit strange looking for sure
How has your nomatic travel pack held up to scratches so far with all your traveling
I’m so excited for it to arrive
thanks so much, and great deal!
Aaron's slow walk always cracks me up!

So glad to hear!
Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of buying the travel pack, but I was not able to find information on whether it fits under the plane seats. Do you have any experience with it?
Glad to help! Depends on the airline but you should be good on 95% of them I'd say
@@Nomads.Nation thanks 🙂
This review is much more informative than Nomatics own video.
What size laptop can fit in the 14L vs 20L. I have 18" external portable monitor that I need to take along with with my 13.5" laptop. Thanks
thanks so much! But not sure, probably best to ask Nomatic customer support. Be sure to let us know what they say!
I think you should be ok with the backpack, but you should probably double check with Nomatic customer support
Hi, just saw this video yesterday and liked it a lot!!! Click on the link to check the bag you are building, but seems it's no longer available 😩, is there any way to get it still? Thanks!

They are definitely solid bags for the right person
Hey again! I know I have asked a question before. But how many books do you think would fit in the Nomatic Backpack 20 L? Books would be around 30x22x3cm. I need it to fit a minimum off 2 books, but 3-4 would be great. If it does fit I will buy the 100% buy it!
Sounds like a great question for Nomatic customer support - be sure to let us know what they say!

It has likewise taken me more than 20 videos to get the complete use-case of these bags.

If im going to college, which bag would you prefer?
both can work, just depends if you want the expansion or not
Does that travel backpack 20L fit under the airline seat or does it have to be placed on the upper compartment?.
Depends on many factors but you should be good on ~95% of airlines
PU Coded and YKK: whichone is better?
YKK zippers can be PU coated or non-PU coated. PU coated is better for rain protection, but they can peel over time
Hello I'm in a sticky situation i was thinking of buying the travel bag however the inner dimensions are one of my biggest need to knows for a bag and I need the expansion pocket and main pocket size separately so I can see if some of my existing tech cases and small items will fit however it seems impossible to find this info on the internet
sounds like a great question for Nomatic's dedicated customer support team - be sure to let us know what they say!
Hope you think it will fit, because i will most likely buy it then!
hard to say for sure, but if you are OK with expanding to 24L then you should be good.
@@Nomads.Nation Thanks for the answer man! Will post a comment later on if I get it.
Not sure how it would look on me based on size. I’m 5’5, should I get the 14L or 20L travel pack?
14L will look better, but it's gonna be tighter on space, so can't say for sure
Great video and am leaning towards a 20l travel pack as my next purchase but keen to hear your thoughts on a alternative, ideally one with good organisation, I’ve got a AER Xpac flight bag now but finding it too small when I need the extra space.
Evergoods CTB26, the goat
Go for it. I can't count how many backpacks I have tried, nothing comes close to the travel pack 20L for me. People are obsessed with Aer, evergoods etc. but this is the goat in my book.
I respect that!
CTB26 is wayy too big EDC for me, but many love it. You say you want a 20L travel bag but you have the Aer Flight Pack which is too small - but it's 20 liters as well 🤔
@@tech6309 what do you love about it?
hello! will either of these bags fit a 17" laptop? will it fit it well?

Back in your first review of the Nomatic Backpack there werent any alternative recommendations. to me its quite close but not there yet so im hoping to get alternatives to check out that are friendlier on the wallet. theres no 1 perfect backpack but generally im looking for;
1. pockets especially separate compartment for tablet and laptop.
2. self standing
3. water bottle pocket that holds 600ml - 1 litre.
4. clean looking with quick access.
5. as light as possible
Can’t think of any bags that got all your requirements (especially at a lower cost)
Or you could just keep getting free ones to replace it lol
I have them both and they are amazing
nice!
Not a fan of the weight and aesthetics of these backpacks. But they definitely cover the worn look of it. I like the separate laptop area. So I’m sticking with the travel backpack between these two.
Agreed on the separate laptop area
Got the travel pack last holiday season for it’s level of organization for all my tech gear. It does the job absolutely perfectly as my daily commuter bag in 20L and then when i travel quarterly for work i expand it and it’s now an all in one suit case/work bag. Only gripe for me is it says it fits up to a 16” laptop but my 16” gaming laptop is a hair too big to fit in the dedicated laptop sleeve. Luckily there are alternate options to make it fit still though!
glad you like it and are able to squeeze your laptop in!
@dmassimini7
How has yours held up to scratches so far?
@@chibuzo2010 so far so good. It’s only been on one plane. I take it to work with me every day though and it has held up nicely. I am a little cautious of how i move it and place it because of the reviews though lol. I work at an autobody shop and it is very dusty and the bag does collect dust a bit
Good comparison review. You mention - rightly - not the best or cleanest strap stow away into briefcase carry mode youve seen. What is your favourite/s for that? Seems difficult to implement while keeping a padded and air channelled back panel.
Aer Flight Pack nails it, Knack Pack does as well to a lesser degree
😂
any other backpack recommendations that are this EDC / travel hybrid?
With expansion you mean? Not many, only ones I can think of are Knack Pack Small & Fyro T22 (full disclosure this is my backpack)
Travel pack is my favourite backpack (as a techie), so underrated. The only thing I would change is a slightly large laptop compartment (16 inch laptops are a tad tight).
glad you like the bag! It's definitely a polarizing bag that ppl either love or hate
I’d like to see an updated review with the Costco (specific) version of thins called the “NOMATIC Essential Travel Pack” which seems to be lighter, and cheaper in literally every way. Cheap zippers, not lockable, waterproof? Flimsy material…
I haven’t seen this version of the bag, but I’ll add to our wish list
Yeah, someone could watch your review of the high end one in the video and buy the watered down version for $179 at Costco and think they are getting the same thing. Very shady on Nematic’s part IMO.
Many thanks for your very detailed reviews, BTW
@@GODISMYJUDGE glad you found hem helpful!
I really really like the travel pack, it ticks so many of my boxes; however - it has no waist straps built in (and romantic always seem to be out of stock for their accessory ones) and there’s no base pocket on the back, I like to slip my phone/passport in there in the airport
So close

thanks so much! I'm not sure if this particular material peels - I've heard that about certain bags/brands but not really about these bags.
Are these zippers better than YKK or worse? Thanks
YKK is best

Do you have any recommendations for a messenger bag that fits some school/ college stuff like 2 college blocks, a school book, 2 slim folders and a water bottle plus some place to spare for a pencil case and some smaller neccesties with strong focus on a slim or lean design? The ones you featured I saw so far were all fairly huge.
I watched your Alpaka Elements Brief Pro review and was intrigued, but it is bigger than my leather messenger bag I carry for work (which fits everything I need). I take evening classes at the moment and am tired of switching out my stuff and hoped about upgrading a bit; since I don't carry a laptop and most of the reviewers here on youtube seem to solely focus on laptops but not on oldfashioned paper, I thought reaching out to my favourite one might be worth a shot. :)

@@Namu4Life I’d personally go with Aer all day. More comfortable, lighter weight, better value
I prefer the Knack Series 1 medium back pack over the nomatic travel pack. Same concept but better execution in my opinion and nicer authentics
I don't agree on aesthetics, but I do on execution and functionality
@Nomads.Nation Do you prefer the series 2, or do you simply not like the look of the bag?
@@jordibarguno I just don't love the look of the bag in general, but that's just my personal taste
I have nomatic. But there’s also gomatic with the same exact backpacks
Yup, same brand just the European version due to a trademark issue
@@Nomads.Nation so nomatic is Euro and Gomatic is american?
@@jrelitedk1814 other way around
@@Nomads.Nation okay thanks, a curious question, I currently have the mous backpack with lid. Im thinking of getting the gomatic travel back V2. Could you do a newer review of it? - Im gonna use it as a daily and use the 3L when away for a week
@jrelitedk1814
Hey. How has your travel pack been holding up to scratches? I just got mine and I love the look. But a lot of reviews say it scratches easily because of the tarpaulin material and starts to look worn out.
I have been looking for an alternative to Bellroy Lite Daypack for a more casual backpack thats light and easy to bring around. I dont want to lug a backpack thats almost a full kg cause the weather is too hot and stuffy in the SEA. any suggestions?
check out Aer Go Pack 2, big fan favorite on this channel

Best review I've seen! great work.
Thanks so much!
Hi there! Can you do a Tomtoc T26 wander please 🙏 and also Hi Margaret 👋
Can you do a comparison of the Peak Design 30L & 45L travel backpack?
Great suggestion! I’ll add to our wish list
Dude... the nomatic messenger bag was the first vid of your I ever watched :)
Brilliant packs by the way!
Cheers, Chris
Full circle haha!
Cheers!
@@dustinbovey7865 best of luck!
4:09 Except that that link just gives me the same retail MSRP price with ZERO discount lol. So no point in using it as there's no added benefit to me.
As the call to action says, it makes sure you get the best price (we’ll switch out the links if we find somewhere that sells the bag with a better deal) and sometimes we have discount codes (we used to for Nomatic but they stopped but we might get new ones soon and we add them once we do) and those links always help to support our channel.
Been using the travel version since 2018, love it, but.... So let's collaborate bro, you def get it with bags. My background can contribute perhaps (and the shoulder straps stowage is clunky for sure, but allows you to capture the office audience (needs to be adult item).
shoot me an email! I'm always down to hear a pitch - aaron@nomadsnation.com
@scottpalangi
How has yours held up to scratches so far?
Could be too soon to tell, however, I did get the one that's like a very pourous pseudo-waxed canvas; I bike 365 so I'll know soon, thanks!@@chibuzo2010
It says they use ykk zippers for this bag on their website. Did they lie to me? 😢
All I can say for sure is that my zippers do not say YKK on them
Pls do review Crumpler Tucker backpack. Thanks
Thanks for your suggestion 💪🏻
Can you do a review on Tom Bihn Techonaut 30L?
Holding to do a TB review someday! Not on our immediate radar though tbh
Can’t argue with that logic
Can you please do the Mous daily backpack 👌
already shot, will be live in a few weeks!
Great thanks!!
14L has too narrow and poor padded straps and back, Navigator is not as versatile, but feels much more convenient on the back. Also Nomatic should improve materials to lower the weight.
lower weight would be great, but easier said than done as those materials give the bag its entire identity/shape/structure
This sounds like a pretty darn cool bag if I may say so myself 😉
Instead we'll be focusing on new products (slings, larger travel bags, maybe a messenger) so Kickstarter backers can get as much value as possible from their support in us :)
@@Nomads.Nation I started following your channel late this month and missed the Kickstarter. Any hope for me? Or am I stuck waiting for the retail release 😢?
@@chibuzo2010 Thanks for reaching out and wanting to support our launch! If not let shoot me an email aaron@fyro.co and I'll get you in so you can get notified once the pre-sale goes live!
I am not a fan of a hard box looking backpack. a soft bag looks beautiful when not fully loaded.
I appreciate both, but also prefer softer at this point in my bag-nerdiness
If hazard 4 brand and nomadic and matador had a baby.... (With ykk zippers) Now we're talking. (Also, a discreet but functional bottom of bag dual loop system - hikers sleeping gear etc - would thoughtful also)

I'm here after watching mrwhosetheboss' video on his travel setup. I think he's using the travel pack.
nice!

@@cesteves6882 oh nice! really appreciate the support!!
Hesitaite too much between nomatic 20L vs peak design everyday backpack 20L
What about the travel bag?!?!?!
Solid bag! But very different from these twos be sure to check out our full review we did
These Nomatic bags look so cheap on the inside. Bags from Aer, Alpaka, or your own bag look so much nicer on the inside, and I bet they feel nicer too.
they do look and feel nicer on the inside for sure. Nomatic def skimps on their materials for the price point
No Ykk, no magnetic sternum strap, MID shoulder straps for 250+. Highway robbery.
I've always said that Nomatic has a very passionate following, but their bags always skimp on materials for the price point
Aaron,
Do these packs fit the UA personal item dimensions of 17x10x9 inches? I saw a video (link below) where the bag is put into the UA personal items sizer. th-cam.com/video/Qkg-cOs0naA/w-d-xo.html
Any thoughts?
I'd recommend cross referencing the size of the bags with the airlines baggage policies 💪

The Nomatic bags? They could be for the right student
Neither cause they’re like 2kg

It’s very business-professional, won’t work for everyone
Because aesthetics is subjective. It may be for him, but not for you. But hey, no opinion is incorrect :)
It's all good, not everyone has good taste.
I'm digging the aesthetics of these

tho, I think I might like the navigator somewhat more

Love the videos. Quick question. Interested in the RS 15L v 20L. I primarily want to use for EDC for laptop and carrying files. My messenger bag is aging and it is becoming too heavy and uncomfortable to carry. Which one is the better use case?
I haven't reviewed the RS line from Nomatic so I can't say for sure. But if all you need is to carry laptop + docs then a 15L should be adequate
