I am learning so much from your videos, current ones, and when I binge on your older ones. I am 84 and am selling my life! Mostly on eBay and Etsy: I have 8 decades of antique, vintage collections, crafts tools and supplies, vintage dancing costuming, collectibles, fabrics, linens, on and on. I source from my attic and figure I have thousands of items to list. I will sell it all or die, whichever comes first, lol.

First I am so happy for you Constance. I hope everything works out great for you and you have many more years to enjoy selling your items and enjoy the wonderful gift of life we have.
Now @sfarmertoo my attention turns to you. Maybe, just maybe, Kevin is helping others like Constance to be able to achieve a goal they have decided to set for themselves. Also Kevin might just be finding a way to make a living for him and his family just like you do in his own perfectly legal and morally right way. Oh yeah it seems to me as well and I may be wrong but all things point otherwise that Kevin is maybe more successful than you and instead of making yourself better by learning and trying new things and evolving with the world you instead put a hateful comment on a display of gratitude from an elderly person that you should have more respect towards. Hate does nothing for you. You have all the same rights as Kevin to be able to do all the same things. Go do good for yourself and others and be the best you can. Learning respect is a great start.
Ive said my peace. That comment broke a moral code for me. My apologies to Constance and Kevin.

I retired from full-time work and was going to get a part-time job, but am having a number of medical issues. Hoping for a more flexible job, I tried the reselling gig and really enjoy it. I’ve learned so much watching videos from different resellers to get a balanced diet of ideas. Ultimately it’s up to each individual how their business is done. I’ve intentionally disregarded some basic advice because it’s MY business, it’s MY decision. I don’t waste time telling others what they’re doing wrong.

You are 100% correct that is exactly exactly how we run our eBay full-time.
I’m always buying collections looking for collections. Everything from toy collections to whatever I can turn over into cash..
I avoided that middle man many years ago and just eliminated him for the most.
We were able to build up a big enough bank to where we were able to go into the estates into these companies and buy them out .
We were never able to do that and now we have that power to point .
And that’s why we’re over to shop Commons.
But you were dead on 1000% what you said about how you would have to source if you weren’t in the place where you are now.
It’s still fun. We’re still meeting people and finding cool things. But it’s definitely a lot of different sourcing. This is what I do for survival

Kevin, I would love to go to estate sales like you have in the east. I have never heard of an open-house type estate sale, where you just walk into somebody's house and buy things like that-like a big garage sale. It's obviously an East Coast thing because I live in Missouri, I'm 65 and when I go to or think of an "estate sale", it's an AUCTION, NOT an open house, indoor garage sale type of sale. Sure would love to do it your way once in awhile! It would be awesome to go to an open house sale.

You are so patient with the reactive people who don't bother to do the research and find out what your channel is all about. But, at least you got an honest, open dialogue out of it. I look at the way my own reselling has changed over the years and I can't imagine thinking there's only one way to be a reseller. You definitely have the right temperament for social media success and that's an important point too... not everyone can be "your kind of reseller" ;)

I also resell part-time, and not looking to change that. If I were trying to be a full-time reseller I'd make sure I had business cards. Then I would go to senior centers and post info about what I do and what I'm looking for. A lot of seniors are downsizing and want to get rid of things and are happy to make some money doing so. If you go to a yard sale or estate sale where there are items you like, but they're too expensive to resell, I would leave a card with them and have them call you when the sale is completed. Always be honest with people about what you do and what you''re willing to pay. Some will be fine with it and will keep you in mind for other sales. Networking is key if you want to do this full-time.

I am building my model on one thing i am passionate about and then trying to also learn all the bolos from watching YT videos. I have been getting better at finding bulk deals lately and many are estate based where people are posting straight to fbm as part of the sale. I find that watching fbm like a hawk still works well for me although i am trying to build relationships where i can. I have thought about becoming a clean-out guy for a real estate company down the road as i enjoy physical labor and have a truck and trailer. Also always been interested in the storage unit thing.

Many large resellers (on youtube) have reduced presence on ebay - fewer listings, more focus on whatnot, etc. Taylor, Dixon, Clothes etc have 50% less listings ... this is canary in coalmine for all of us ... they are the smart money, have said volume model is DEAD and they are NOT focusing on ebay as much. We need to be read the tea leaves ... sourcing is harder, usps is up, ebay adds/reduces margins ...

I'm back to hobby buying at tag sales. It's just as well, given how horrible it was all Spring, Summer and now Fall. A toy reseller I know said the same thing. In my area rent is pushing $2000/month for a one-bedroom, so even full-time resellers using every trick Kevin mentions can't make a primary income out of it. The reasons are a combination of inflation from heck and the Smartphone Effect. (everyone researches what they have and want full retail for it or close.) Estate sales here are few and far between too; they've gone on line and the prices are jacked up. The ones that are left are often not worth the time. Thrift store prices aren't thifty any more. A niche reseller here has to broaden out or get out. Those who have medical limitations (hand raised) may not be able to do what it takes. I was a jewelry seller who sold just about anything I could lift, but was forced out of the game unless I wanted to lose my medical coverage among other problems.

The reason I do this is for my personal love for music in the physical format. I have a personal collection of approximately 5000 CDs and 800 DVDs. They're easy to buy, list and ship. They don't take up too much room either and there is some big money this, if you know what to look for.

After 20 years of conducting estate liquidations, it’s all about relationships. I look at tons of estates every month and pick maybe 2 or 3 to liquidate. The rest get referred to people who buy/sell certain subject matter and have been great, polite customers I’ve been doing biz with for years. If you want to be first to the fresh estates of whatever you sell or collect - get to know the right people and always deal honest with them.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we're seeing enormous growth in apartment complexes. Everywhere I look, 5 story apartment building complexes are sprouting up and people are moving into them. I've started wondering if traditional garage sales here will become fewer (I think they already are) as the Boomer generation passes on. And yes, prices at estate sales and thrift shops here are higher than what I see in your videos, not allowing much if any margin for reselling.

I can only buy online as I'm from Portugal and I must say it is not easy at all. I sell mostly vintage Barbie and greeting postcards(it is also what I know most of - been selling on those for 4+ years), but finding Barbies online at a price I can sell on Ebay is extremely difficult. Many, many collectors looking for Barbies, plus expenses to import and VAT, make it a very, very hard task. Still, I can find some stuff online, but I find it is often not enough to just live on it. Greeting postcards, unfortunately is a low sell-through category and seasonal to some degree. So, I'm kind a mix of "master of a few trades/niches" and now branching out to a few other niches. Summer is the hardest to source online, which led me to that decision of branching out to other niches.

Most importantly I have seen people make 1 buy that changed their life. One guy spent 100k on nos fishing lures from someone who died. He has done over 3.3 million in sales on ebay in the last 7 years selling those baits. Another guy bought an entire warehouse full of NOS OEM car parts from the 60s and 70s. He spent 60k and no telling how much he has made but I'm sure it's a fortune. I like being ready for whatever opportunity presents itself.

Question: in your area, do you have crooked estate sale companies that price small items so high they won't sell, and then buy up the unsold items at the end of the sale and put them on eBay themselves?

    • @jamiedistefano5299
      @jamiedistefano5299 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I know some of these Estate sale companies are doing just that, because they refuse to bulk sale to me or others at the end of the sale, and hell they refuse to make deals in any form pretty much which makes me wonder, WHY they refuse to wheel and deal or why do they not want to have someone in the wings that is willing to come in and help make it a successful clear out for the customers? It used to be that what did not sell during the estate sale would be offered at lower prices to those that were willing to take it all or take box lots at a discounted price to clear it out. I agree with you that it is because the people that are running the sale take it all for themselves and have secondhand stores with all the premium stuff that they refused to take offers on. I know this because I see it happening locally. It is deceptive practices, and they should be put on blast and the families should know that they are being short changed, by crooked estate sale companies.

Hey Kevin. Thought maybe a topic for laws on reselling in a future vid. Plus with you being a Dad and former teacher im sure it would worry you as well. Its people reselling things like Galaxy Gas which if you dont know is basically nitrous that kids are abusing and its making a comback due to tik tok. Its sold in huge containers as a for food use only to get around the law but it is obviously made to be used as a drug. From what i seen amazon no longer allows the company to sell there yet resellers are selling it on there and ebay and other places. It got me thinking on items used as drugs and even taking kids life that are being resold for profit and what reselling companies should do to combat that. Its sad to see but i know its always been out there in one way or another and will probably always be a neverending battle.

Niched is boring. However there are certain things I know well such as silver, gold, watches, music instruments, etc. But I have made a ton of money from toys, swimming pool supplies, sporting goods, shoes, hats, and any number of other things.
Would I give up being an everything seller? O hell No!

The drop shipper lists things for sale, but does not have it in their inventory. So when the thing sells, they turn around and buy it elsewhere, and have it shipped to their customer.

Impressed with the pronunciation of Labra-cadabra-doodle.
I think that things aren't changing much. I don't see anything much different than when my Mom did this in the 80s-90s. We just have more places, like online live. Back then you could have proxy bids. If Mom had more than one auction she wanted to hit, she drop a kid at one with a number and she'd go to the next. My sister hated that, lol!

If Kevin didn't do social media, his resale business would be a lot less work, because he wouldn't have to show all the items to viewers. He could easily sell twice as much if that much time was freed up.
I would reply to dropshippers that I know you're a dropshipper, please feel free to buy anything you need, I'll give you just the type of service your business requires.
You Madonna/Marilyn Monroe lot makes me think you may watch the mighty Jebus!

Kevin, I am interested in the Pyrex refrigerator dishes in the background of this video. I do not see them listed on EBay.
