    Honestly I get her releasing it as a deluxe from a thematic standpoint to. These songs were started as sos projects and were made by the same sza who made sos as seen by a lot of the new songs being snippets we have already heard, so her next project will be a truly new sza with new things to say.

    i think it's sad how the album as a format to tell a story or convey a message has almost completely disappeared. you can't sit here and tell me dropping 23 songs and then 15 more songs 2 years later makes for a cohesive listening experience, not to mention the album is now 2 hours long.

      @yvngarmz5984 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

      Totally agree with this, cohesion really is the key. A couple bonus tracks that fit the theme, alternate covers etc can be super cool as deluxes but outside of this, new content could essentially just work as an EP, only attached to the previous LP for added sales :(

      It hasn't completely disappeared, many artists still do this, it is just not the norm or even a common occurrence for mainstream artists. It's definitely changed for the worse as a result of many factors, but lots of great artists are still doing this. Bladee is one of the first that comes to my mind in terms of having cohesive and thematic albums that could probably all be called concept albums since icedancer which was his last real rap Mixtape until the recent Cold Visions which is also much more of a Mixtape project

      I think most of these songs fit perfectly with SOS, which is a break up album. If she had released this as her 3rd album, i would definitely call it just left overs from SOS and would have been disappointed, because i would have expected her to move on to do diferent things.

      @@Alex-vm6eftrue, it's not common in the mainstream anymore but for example basically every death and black metal band I love has concept albums or at least tell a story based around a topic in their releases. An example is pain remains by lorna shore or terminal redux by vektor, amazing and interesting story telling and theme imo, it's almost like a prog metal musical. There's also some hip hop albums that do this. 070 shakes new album tells a personal story and the songs connect to each other, kendrick lamar has albums like this. I love when the album is basically one long song just split into tracks because they go hand in hand fluidly without cuts or breaks. Anti Icon by ghostemane or lets start here by lil yachty did this well for example but there are many more. It's an experience, it's art and not just a product. A lot of albums these days are just there to make money and a compilation of tracks that have been selected from long studio sessions and it's so boring

      So the whole point of lana was to continue the story that was heard in sos, maybe u js arnt listening to the storys in the albums

    It’s more than fitting especially when we consider that she’s parting ways with punch. Yes SOS album is lengthy now even more so but I don’t see it as an issue. Songs are personal and the release of Lana feels like SZA moving on and forward closing out her SOS chapter.
    SZA now on her own seems to be eager to release more music so we may get an official album from her next year.
    Also she’s going on tour with Kendrick. So I don’t think her releasing Lana as a deluxe is simply for the role out it’s everything to do with her mental and where she was and is at.

      is she actually parting ways? i saw conflicting stuff haha but yeah i agree the deluxe makes sense FOR HER and at the end of the day its all about what makes sense for the project

    Shoutout to everyone getting their money, cos really this is just a symptom of mixing art and commerce, but artistically a lot of these "deluxes" could stand alone as great mini projects. Bring back love for a good follow up EP🖤

    another downside for deluxe projects is people end up taking the music less seriously. bonus tracks to an already realized project end up feeling like a bunch of b sides/leftovers. why not just make a follow up EP instead? tacking on a bunch of bonus tracks makes me as a fan less interested in the project, i don’t get the problem with calling it a follow up EP or a mixtape? i’m not going to complain because im getting new music, but in the case of sza and the sheer number of songs, i don’t see the benefit besides money. which i don’t blame her for, but it does feel like she sacrifices some artistry.

  • @pienntt
    @pienntt 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    I like that Peggy and Danny did the EP follow-up in a more clean and proper way, I think. On the other hand, the deluxe version SZA did seems like a fun way to, as you said earlier, provide fan service and give people what they've been asking for.

    earlier this year underscores dropped a deluxe version of her album wallsocket. except it was called a directors cut. it included 2 tracks that previously werent officially released (but still was out in some way) and 2 new tracks. with the new tracks being a prologue and epilouge to the album. and those 2 are some of her best songs. great delxue version
    but in her previous fishmonger era instead of dropping a deluxe version she instead dropped an entire ep + a single

    “She could have dropped this as a stand alone album.” No she couldn’t have. 1) the songs aren’t as good as the ones in Ctrl or SOS and 2) 6 of the songs have been previously released or leaked. Had she presented this as a new album people would have complained. I think it’s a smart marketing strategy to out the gate present this as an extension of her previous album cycle. It also has a lot to do with the “Deluxe” terminology being so synonymous with hip hop and pop fans all over. Can you imagine Gorillaz dropping The Fall: Plastic Beach Deluxe back in 2010? No. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. If the album as a medium is dying it’s because we let it die.

    • @hadjitube
      @hadjitube  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      idk i think some of the songs could hold up. but i feel you. probably not all of them (after a few more listens). i didnt wanna judge it too quickly on that end in the video off 1-2 listens. people def would have complained - i think the truth is people will complain literally no matter what hahah. plastic beach is a classic. and the deluxe term at this point should just be about whatever makes sense for the artist and the project. and for a multi platinum album like SOS why not throw 15 more on there haha

  • @thex6992

    A lot of (extreme) metal albums from bands I like still do stories, themes and concepts in their album. It's just the mainstream that doesn't do this. A lot of these bands never release deluxe versions because their story is already complete instead of just single tracks released at once woth no connection etc. And if they do it's mostly like 2 special songs or covers from other artists. Of youre into that kind of music I highly recommend from mars to sirius by gojira (its a lot older though), terminal redux by vektor and pain remains by lorna shore (came out last year I think)

    I think this couldn’t be a album cuz of her deal and being someone that has worked behind the scenes labels like deluxe with 15 plus song cuz it adds to the streams of the artist for album and it keeps them in there deal longer.she literally drop 15plus songs which is a album itself plus there is no rollout because sza is still using her momentum on the release of sos and her feature with Kendrick gnx so that’s what I’ll say cuz 15 is a. Whole fucking album not Ep and u can drop atleast three songs from that 15 so definitely it’s a label thing cuz any artist would have said that’s a whole album and it doesn’t connect with the story of the album that’s also throws me off with the deluxe albums

    Most forget the most obvious reason. The label.
    Labels MAKE artist's by the most part drop deluxe albums. Just another way of putting more sales on the album. Same thing they do with "greatest hits" album even when the artist wasn't even retired.
    Usually just sponsored partnership which makes alternative specific albums aswell.
    It's almost never the artist's decision to make a deluxe half the time. Usually just contractual agreements to the amount of albums they will owe.

    • @hadjitube
      @hadjitube  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      for sure yea. it becomes the best option for an artist who wants to drop but the label only gives them this avenue to do so. i kinda said it but not as straightforward

    • @crowing3886
      @crowing3886 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @hadjitube i remember when mj was getting out of his deal. He said he owed 2 more albums, a greatest hits and deluxe and for people not to buy them lol.
      Most artist's aren't independent nor are on a roster. Nor are most artist's given such freedom. Now idk how TDE works but the deluxe for Lana works for sza because she took 5 YEARS to drop sos. She said she had over 100 tracks made in that period. So it would only make sense for her deluxe to have a lot of song.
      Though on the other hand kendrick dropped that damn deluxe which was the same album but the tracks were in reverse. Goofy and a cheap cash grab compared.
