  • Historian and professional photographer Vanessa Greene scoured the countryside for photos representing generations of local families as they celebrated life with births, weddings, military service, beauty pageants, trips to the beach and more.
The DigiBridge Lecture series was first presented as a Facebook live event, to allow the continuation of quality library programs while keeping patrons safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The series is sponsored by the South Carolina Humanities with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This was a wonderful and very important presentation! Vanessa Greene was superb - I enjoyed meeting the people she introduced us to. I am a Charlestonian who never really traveled around and got to know other parts of the low country, including Georgetown. I want to see more.
I found her comment about the Gullah people very interesting - that they are not monolithic in any way.
Lastly, I really appreciated her urging us to preserve our family and community photos, esp to digitize them - how generous of her offer to help do that for those present for this talk.

Thank you, Vanessa. I learned so much, and recognized some of the faces.
