- Just wanted to show the truth of HotToys cheap ass material that is used that is not sustainable to aging for more than 8 years max and what to be aware of when buying this product..I don't get paid for my videos or Patreon people ...i do my videos because i like to share the truth in collecting HotToys and save collectors from making expensive mistakes .

It's really depressing when this happens especially for the price we pay for these. I used a black liquid shoe polish on my Crow pleather coat and it's kept its softness.
Never heard of the black shoe polish before...but if the shoe fits !!!👍
Why I stopped collecting Hot Toys. I dont have many pleather figures(just Star Lord, Gamora,Nebula,Scarlett Witch) so I figure I'll wait em out and let them degrade and hopefully someone makes better stuff.
Thanks for this share! My Crow’s jacket and pants are falling apart!!! It looks horrible! I looked online to get a replacement! Found another pleather set for 100.00 usd. Kept looking and found another for $400.00 dollars only jacket! I didn’t buy either! 100.00 for pleather that will fall apart in two or three years. No! 400.00 for just the jacket!! That’s the price of another figure in diecast! These figures are great looking and pricey! That’s why I’m thinking of cutting down on which ones to buy. And I’m seriously thinking of stopping collecting 1/6 figures. Go to statues. Although that has its issues as well.
Hello...
I see you from Chile (thank you very much for your content and sorry for my terrible English)...
As a complement to this video:
1.- the first terminator you show...
It looks like it's the DX10. That piece has all its clothing made of animal leather, except for the belt, which is made of three-layer synthetic leather (if you look in its box you will see that this characteristic is even specified).
2.- In the 1/6 scale world, synthetic leather is widely used, mainly because it offers thinner surfaces that adjust to the scale in thickness and reduce production standard costs.
3.- There are many types of synthetic leather that are distinguished by their external finishes, but there are mainly two:
A.- The two-layer = inner layer that contains the textile that supports the design and seams + outer layer with color and finishing aggregates
B.- The three-layer = internal layer that contains the textile that supports the design and seams + intermediate layer of "talc" (which generates the problem of disintegration) + external layer with color and finishing aggregates.
4.-The most problematic synthetic leather is the "3-layer" that has an intermediate layer of "talc". This layer of talcum powder reacts mainly with cold and humidity (in direct contact or due to condensed humidity in unventilated places).
When some kind of fluid manages to penetrate this intermediate layer, it causes it to expand, detach from the inner layer of the structure and the outer layer of color, inflating, peeling and detaching from the structure that supports it.
5.- The urban myth of many collectors is to apply "maintenance" liquids to these synthetic leathers (mainly those used for vehicle interiors).
This action is a bad idea on three-layer synthetic leathers, because it risks the liquid reaching the internal "talc" layer through seams or weakening of the outer color layer.
Now, as an irrelevant opinion of mine (and one that no one has asked me to do), I find that not posing your figures is missing out on a large percentage of the joy of collecting on this scale... It sounds as incoherent as not opening a can of your favorite beer for fear of let it end
Well, on the one hand, there are super cheap methods to overcome these problems (I have been repairing and creating costumes for some time) and more than a problem I see it as the possibility of climbing to another level of enjoyment and generating a more intimate and particular bond of composing your collection. (which not necessarily everyone shares and assumes)...
A huge greeting from Chile and thank you for your content!...
Wow ,the content you shared about the layering was very interesting ,your knowledge was some what overwhelming to say the least ...thank you for inlitening me with the way pleather is constructed..as for posing my figures ..generally I pick a very basic pose the leave it ,on occasion I do slightly change the pose but never exstreame unless it's like track suit spiderman where there's no limit to the clothing ,I suppose you could call me a modest poser 😏..Anyways..Gracias for your comment it was very much appreciated...
As somebody who's always worried about deterioration and just began collecting, this was a great video. Love the accent bro you're awesome
Glad something worked over 14 years of TH-cam ripping me off!!😄
This is one of the reasons I don't collect hot toys anymore and also they always make a new version of figures and nothing feels special anymore.
I can understand that totally...just think how much you will save!
@tessjess1 well....lol I get statues now. I had close to 60 hot toys at one point I started collecting them before they were popular back in 2007 my 1st one was rpd leon and in thoes days if you bought a predator or alien you had to put them together
@secretmulletman7984 arhhhh the early days of HT collecting, when figures were affordable and we didn't get flooded with to much bullshit!!..all I can say these days mate is follow the trail where you purchase value for money.....😉👍👊
@tessjess1 absolutely. Also, back then crazy to think hot toys use to be $140 $150. I remember in 2009 is when they started dipping into the $200s I believe it was black suit spiderman retailed for $209.....today the are $350 $400 ez
@secretmulletman7984 under the radar brother.. but the poor people are volume of the market .let's see how the rich can deal with volume...the real fans!!!
I would rather pay slightly more for better materials that don’t deteriorate. I absolutely loathe pleather. No belts and straps and accessory parts should be made of anything but pliable rubber or plastic.
Comment excepted and understood.....I feel your upset and know where your coming from.😎
@@tessjess1Yeah, my Star Lord is just destroyed. I will have to pose him without the coat until a 2.0 is made with a real leather coat. I managed to salvage my Crow figure with a full leather set from eBay. My black widow seems fine, but I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time. I updated my TDKR Catwoman and Bane with the 2.0 releases, so that’s fixed.
Anything else, I’m hoping I can fix with Angelus leather paints. Some things just can’t be salvaged. Hot Toys and third party companies really need to ditch this material. It has a huge stigma at this point. Why keep using it? My T2 Arnold is in the same state as yours. Why can’t they all last that long?
We pay enough for these as is(And they're actually cheaper to produce believe it or not). They need to up their quality control.
@@thrasher2753Agreed!
Exact same thing happened on my figure . Such a shame ….. no idea why they still use pleather !
DX10 is real leather. They didn’t use it that much, I can only think of DX10 and the ghost rider figures. The dx13 is pvc
I don't think Ht really cares about the DX 10 ..only the money maker of present ... and who wants to pay big dollars!! You are rite .DX 10 is real leather///
I had the EXACT same thing happen to my first Star Lord... had the get rid of the old long coat because it disintegrated and I also tossed the bag as bad as that felt. I bought the exact same short coat and its holding up well. I also lost my Age of Ultron Black Widow costume due to the disintegration as well. Feels bad.
Holy shit ,that is crazy ...Now we have the same Star Lord 👍
This is why i usually stay away from pleather figures. Hot Toys just can't get it right.
yes, HT did use real leather back when their figures were actually limited & not mass produced so that is a real leather jacket & pants on the T-800
Of course it wouldn't be practical to do that on the BD version even if they hadn't switched over to pleather by that point
Thank you for your reply ,the people that confirmed this are true collectors .. warms my soul!!n Thank youi!!
Wishful thinking.
MMS001 Kyle Reese had pleaser boot guards. Pleather was there since the beginning
@@user-sr8gy9kz4v the DX T-800 came with leather
man, NONE of that is leather. NONE. at best a pressed material (like a cheap belt). mostly all fabric with a coating (think cheap sofa). the coating, like all plastics degrades. working with actual leather at that scale, because of thickness and size, would be prohibitively expensive
The original Terminator has way better application of what ever it is than the plastic crap that is on Deadpol..Qc on Hottoys has gone backwards over the years..
Terminator was genuine leather. It was back when enterbay were using genuine leather on their 1/4 terminator figure and hot toys did the same. (Enterbay switched to pleather for their battle damaged one)
Also, a material back coating doesn't necessarily mean it isn't genuine leather. It might just mean it's taking the very top layer of hide, and sticking it to fabric so it's thinner and easier to work with. It's cheaper than real leather, but way longer lasting than fake leather.
But yeah. This problem sucks. It's not the end of the world if it's some simple off the shelf looking pair of leather pants. But a lot of these outfits are unique to that character. You're not going to find third party replacements for intricately stitched and patterned leather pants.
I tend to mostly avoid buying figures with a lot of "leather" in their outfits now for this reason. Especially with the cost of hot toys these days.
Thought the Terminator was real leather..Tell me about it.The new dx wolverine in Australia is going to cost $530....defo stepping down from HT 1/6 it more fore the rich now..🤙👍
@@tessjess1 yeah. I've moved onto third party unlicensed stuff mostly now. It's a bit more hit and miss with quality but generally I feel you get way better value for money. And the issues you might get you can fix with a body swap or a bit of futzing or something.
@KORNdog1986 yep same ..leaning more 6inch 1/12 figures ..will be biting the bullet to get the dx Wolverine..it's my home boy I have to!!
Yet another reason I am done collecting
Hot toys can't sell us this crap for the priceses there asking now....has to be the real deal..not pretend peeling shit!!
I'm going to finish my preoders and start getting 6 inch figures ,that don't have pleather..
This happened to my winter soldier black widow, so I replaced it with a spare civil war body/outfit and glued on the emblem from the winter soldier suit.
Perfect.👍
@@tessjess1 I wonder how the new Deadpool figure that will be released with wolverine will hold up in time
The only issue i ever had was with eric draven, but i got him around 2013 the day he came out, and it's been years. I fixed him, though, and repainted him with fake black leather paint. I started using 303 and never had an issue with them yet and im in florida but we keep it cold in the house and i coat them every few months and I've used a clear coat sealant on them also. Really wish they give us leather or something else than a pleather ( last where did you buy those pants and coat for the crow in real leather? Thanks
I know the coat was the German guy from englous bustards movie Hot toys made it..the pants were from ebay..and the boots aswell..
Would hitting figures with a clear coat before posing help you reckon ?
Really wouldn't like to say!
