God Tribes 2 was peak online gaming. I really cut my teeth in competitive team FPS on that game. That was when the internet was the god damn wild west, chat was crazy, games were crazy and Tribes 2 was unlike anything else.
You get it. I truly miss Tribes 2 and this era of the net. That was the first time I really spent a lot of time in clan chat (in the in-client chat/features) and got anxious for my high-speed internet upgrade. T2 was ahead of its time and got overlooked by many. PC gaming in 2001 was kinda slowing down as well.
The multiple/rotating flag positions idea you posited was in Tribes Ascend, the game mode was called Blitz. There was a group that would do Blitz matches on Thursday nights I think, it was a lot of fun and definitely forced cappers to be creative making up routes for different flag positions.
I just randomly got this video on my feed and holy shit it made me remember my times playing Tribes Ascend in my childhood a Technician (god I loved my turrets and repairing shit so much) I remember too not playing for months then coming back on the game way after 1.1 droped but by that time it was so fucking over, I was very sad because of it but oh well, such is life I will keep an eye on Tribes 3 and hope it gets good before investing my time on it, and thanks man, you reminded me of a game I loved a lot, cheers
This game (which is now in early access!) actually feels great. Easily the best addition has been this little push you give yourself when you press space to ski. You can do it in all four directions and it really enhances all the other movement.
Holy shit... tiered maps? Where it gets easier to defend with each flag of yours captured?? That sounds awesome! Leads up to a very intense finale, while also remaining balanced, and favoring the team not in the lead!
as someone that played quake but no tribes at all befor that i can say, tribes 3 feels natural to aim and shoot (shure ajustments to hitboxes should be made but that doesnt change the overall feel of the base mechanic), the 12v12 feels way better as casual gamemode than the 7v7 from last week(the bomb mode was fun chaos)... i still think that the minigun will bring "new" people away from even trying to lern the projectiles because its to easy and befor you are good you dont hit more discs than a good minigunner can fuck you over (in my first week i ate one aoe shot and than the heavys just miniguned me from half hp - last playtest was better because i got better with discs and i won most of the time against them, but i want to lern, that is not the case for everybody) in my "fuck i want to play more" i also got into the Midair2 beta.... and let me tell you, as a new player, that shit sucks ass... over two days the projectiles made no fucking sens at all nothing landed where i was aiming (not even the prediction of the players, i also had to guess where im shot will even land) didnt land where i was aiming plus seamingly random preaim (probably because vertical speed effected the projectils in a wierd way)... and i am someone that played fps over a decade now in at least 5 different games some of them with projectile focus (quake and OW as example) i can not imagine how awefull it is for players that come from CoD or Valorant..... so for me tribes 3 is on a good way, i dont know about speed caps etc and balance seams off (as a new player) - plus why is there auto transfer for flags now? that seams awefull. I also introduced tribes 3 to someone that bearly every plays fps and more racing games or rpgs.... he picked light and was responsible for 3 of 5 caps in his first game, knowing that he will not hit shit... and he had fun, even the game after, where the enemy was better at defending, he just skiied around trying to find ways to cap
i just dont know if tribes 3 has enough to hold people for a long time, because on the surface its not easy to see and get into the depth compedetiv has. hitting midairs are the main kick the game gives me right now. and i am trying to stay away from "how to play" and "how to play compedetiv" too see for myself how the understanding of a game works, and right now im flying around trying to stop cappers and fighting seamingly random fights in the middle of the map. feeling like im not really doing mutch. i allways just try to enjoy the game first and than go hardcore into "esport mode" with finding out "whats the best way to win"
Played Quake2 , Q3, Unreal, Q4 multi, Tribes Ascend and Valorant ( in that order.) Each are unique in my view, but there’s absolutely no reason for players from all or these games not to enjoy Tribes 3.
I remember playing T2 on a server with 64 v 64... The maps were big... Anyway... The maps I liked were the ones with a Mountain in tte middle and two or so paths around it. It cut up the flow, and was fun. I hope server-side scripting is added, that was wild in SS:T and T2. Dual sholder mounted mortar canonons, and leveling up, and other insanity. (Everyone played SS:T with the Skiing client)
my best times were in tribes1. does this game have vehicles? elf gun? deployable turrets? landmines? laser sniper? the fact you could sit at a terminal and remote control turrets or look through deployed cameras or whatever was such a peculiarly advanced feature with such limited use. it feels like as time has gone on, some of the variety of options has been ironed out of the series
There is a lot of that which is not available in T3 at present. In part because it is still in Alpha I would guess. Not sure how much of adding new cool things is one their roadmap.
I think I speak for most people that we don't want slow discs. I'm ok with not getting T1, T2, TA, etc discs. It's just... a bit overtuned. I'd like to see it brought down a bit. Not too much. 20% max.
I honestly wouldn't freak out if they were a bit slower. I keep putting out feedback like this in part because I know where the devs started with the speed of everything and I just don't want the entire impression of the game to be that it needs to be slowed down. But I have seen some feedback from new players, as well, feeling a bit overwhelmed and I don't want them turned away because they feel like they can't even get started.
@@Ganknasty_ Yeah but if it's powerful enough people will use it. You should have seen how it would mow people down. Thankfully it's been nerfed to a reasonable state. xD
looking forward to playing another Tribes but like many other felt its gone downhill since Tribes 2 which was released in beta pretty much thanks to David Georgeson pushing its launch. Still turned into a good game though and sank countless hours into it.
If we have learned anything from the competitive camp, is that they're notorious for making sure you're not having any fun. They like to get into public matches and dominate flag carriers on sentinel, kill themselves when low health, B-back when they return the flag, and use the most obnoxious easy-use weapons. I genuinely have little to no respect for their opinions. They will make sure to ragequit every new player trying to get into tribes while the game remains imbalanced and once they're done doing their damage, they'll find a new game to wreck. I just don't think Tribes has what it takes to survive this modern era of online gaming. There's too much information out about what's broken, players play for money through their streams, internet speeds are too fast and therefore make bullet-weapons too easy to use. There's a reason there's no in-game chat. The online playerbase is super toxic and overcompetitive. It's infected every game. Back in the Tribes 2 days, most people were on dialup, DSL, and "cable". Ping were usually around 200, so you had a lot of lag that kept most weapons from working too well at long distances. I don't think simulating lag for tribes is the way to go, but it drives home the point that killing has gotten too easy, speed and air-time means a lot less than it used it. So we're left with a game that's in a fun nostalgic wrapper, but just can't play the way it used to because people are just generally better at games than they were in the 90s, and more toxic. And it really sucks.
Tried this game for the first time today and have zero experience or knowledge on past games or abilities so here’s my take coming from a Overwatch 2, apex, Halo, cod, Fortnite point of view. The games fun but feels slow regardless of how fast I’m actually moving the visuals is slow. I want to move faster and would like to have a grapple instead of the pistol. Grappling other players and having another movement ability while mid air would be cool. Having an instagib game mode would get me hooked on this game. I don’t like floating and I don’t like leading shots 5 football fields in front of someone. I do however enjoy the speed and type of gameplay. The concept is cool but I typically solo q so being able to enjoy a ranked solo q experience would be nice. I’ll definitely revisit this game tomorrow and see what more it has to offer.
It does seem a little easy from just this video to midair. But I am used to Tribes Aerial Assault on PS2 with server authoritative firing. So was always like a ~200ms delay between firing. You got good at hitting the ground for splash damage and it makes the rocket launcher and heavier classes worth playing and not just sitting ducks. And are there not mobile inventory stations or turrets you can place on the flags to stop someone from just flying through and taking it?
I think it may be a vifoxe classic, yeah. The download of revengeance comes with AAALLLL the maps and when I went to load up Danube I was scrolling and that's when I realized just how many maps I've never even seen.
Any idea when the next play test is? I downloaded the game ton of hot but when I booted it up it said servers were down for maintenance. Trying to relive some of those tribes ascend glory days 😅😅
I am not sure actually. There is another Alpha test going on this weekend and while improvements are being made it looks like we still have a ways to go. You can hop in by finding Tribes 3 Rivals Playtest on steam.
@@GoodJobDino Oh interesting that might have been the version I played actually and I didn't notice the option -- at the time I could only find info about the spinfusor XD having it but then it was removed. I was hoping that inheritance could solve the projectile speed issues (you can hit target faster if you're moving towards them faster) without needing to make base projectile speed "too high".
shit's way too easy, hitboxes are way too huge, I'm consistently going fast as fuck on the opoposite side of the map and getting murdered in the goddamn stratosphere.. it's super lame.

Sad I missed those days! I picked up with Vengeance in 2004 and now we live in a time where they may not even have general chat.
You get it. I truly miss Tribes 2 and this era of the net. Was starseige tribes for me that was like that and it was absolutely amazing days,
Greatest era of all time!! The early 2000s freakin rocked.
Tribes 1 was always WAY better
Tribes takes brains to play. Not just going around shooting each other. It takes planning, it takes real teamwork. And that's why it will fail.
I think it will succeed. But it does take more skill.
The multiple/rotating flag positions idea you posited was in Tribes Ascend, the game mode was called Blitz. There was a group that would do Blitz matches on Thursday nights I think, it was a lot of fun and definitely forced cappers to be creative making up routes for different flag positions.

It will soon be going into early access! And they're still doing weekend playtests pretty much weekly.
Downloaded Tribes Vengeance and have been playing. Can't wait to see some people online!
The algorithm delivers, I had no idea a new Tribes games was coming 😍😍
Indeed! Will be playable during Steam Next Fest. Make sure to join the discord and keep up with what's going on.
What does tribes even feel like anymore? It's a memory

I got into Tribes with Vengeance and man how much do I miss that game. Hitting MAs in that was so satisfying
We still play! Every Thursday and weekends. There is a link to download in the description of all my videos and make sure to join the discord.
@@GoodJobDinoI’ll make sure to check that out!!
I had almost 1000 hours in tribes ascend and still play Ariel assault on my ps2 I haven’t been this excited in a long time

Fast is good! Giant hitboxes are not so good. I think people unanimously agreed that the chaingun is a MONSTER right now.

I wanted the flag to be used as a badass melee weapon even thrown as a spear [VAF] lol BUT!!! The carrier has to be out of ammo to be able to use it.

Currently there are only portable little turrets that medium can place. Hitboxes have also been reduced recently.

Early Access starts the 12th! (I'm pretty sure)
Fast is good!
It’s fine imo I got third place in the tournament too. :-) Team Blitz.
I was with Tritium Jones! The tournament was a blast.
Maps seem small. Speed does seem a little too fast. Bunch of pro players taking out newbies constantly won't help them want to stay either. Fun tho.

If titanfall 2 is too fast for the average gamer then yes, luckily that isn’t the case. Bring it on!
MA MA MA!
The version I played a while ago only had 0% inheritance which was lame.
Must have been quite a while ago. It was in... 1.4 I think that they added sliders so you can adjust to whichever inheritance feels best.

i like tribes ascend.
Don't even suggest that it should be slower.
Never would.
I hope this is like tribes acend, i enjoyed that alot, bummer it died off, also the only tribes iv played
I miss Vengeance aesthetics, this one looks like another Overwatch clone with different gameplay
Does this game require the installation of Denuvo anti cheat?
as of yesterday, yes. It may not stay though, as they are trialing denuvo this playtest instead of easy anti cheat, to test the difference.
I didn't see Shazbot, Uh-huh, or Wo-hoo's lines in the game chat. You're playing wrong.
Hitbox and explosion radius too big
shit's way too easy, hitboxes are way too huge, I'm consistently going fast as fuck on the opoposite side of the map and getting murdered in the goddamn stratosphere.. it's super lame.
Based take
No lead/prea aim/help/bot no succes for any Tribes...The average player is just bad @ mid airs...3D combat needs a 3D brain....
Nope it's perfect
Man after my own heart.
