“Jeff Baseball” is his hometown high school’s team in Jeffersonville Indiana. I used to live there and it’s the first location of papa johns. He’s a minor celebrity and he gives (or gave) a lot of money to the town and schools. He is partially responsible for the fact that there are new bridges between Louisville Kentucky and Jeffersonville Indiana and he has kept Jeff High going for the last 20 years while the state failed them.
He’s a pine cone, but he really does care about his home. That’s why he wore the shirt.
He's actually done an absolute ton of good via donating his wealth, he's just been one of those types to never talk about it or seek publicity from it. In reality this man having his company ripped away from him after he grew it into such a massive success from a single location is probably a tragedy. It's clearly affected his mental stability.

And he said the n-word on a recorded call, which is at worst racist and at best incredibly stupid. Can you buy your way out of that controversy by donating to your hometown? Seems no.

Papa John claims he was goaded into saying a slur for the purpose of other corporate directors recording it and then taking it out of context. The CEO and founder of this company would've personally led this type of training. They could have asked him to specify examples of inappropriate language. These people were involved in every level decision making, and trusted as family by John.

The fact that he said he had 40 pizzas in the last 30 days just shows that he's locked him self alone in a room in his house obsessing over this, going crazy talking to him self, making charts and graphs on the walls of taste and quality while his wife yells at him from the other room to come out and see his family and visit with his kids but he just puts on noise cancelling head phones and goes back to pissing in jugs and focusing on his work. Meanwhile everyone else at Papa John's moved on and forgot all about him.
