    Helpful!
    You've reminded me an old technique I learned in a college choir director about 38 years ago.
    Thanks!

    O so cool, curving the tongue idea was so helpful... The back of mine tends to rise and close off with the ee sound so this helped. Thanks!

    I love singing EE!! If I could sing whole songs just on EE, I'd be so happy lol. Thank you for the information, I also love finding out why a sound is working :)

    wow, what a difference in the sound. I've been struggling for ever to hit that hi ee. Thought I just couldn't sing or wasn't my range. All it took was a small shift of the tongue. Thank you.

      J I'm so happy it made such a difference for you! Often what we feel as huge challenges with our voices can transform with a small change. 😊 Thanks so much for sharing your story!

    Thanks for the suggestions. Struggling with a musical theatre song that is quite short and relatively easy in melody, but half of the lines of the lyrics end with crescendo on "years", "tears", and "-ing".

    I just realised this weekend I have a problem with resonances singing E. Thin whiny sound. I experimented with different things and realised I can get it more open doing silly things inside my mouth. Did a Google search, found you and you confirm exactly what I've experimented. Thank you!!!!

    • @thatsweetroar
      @thatsweetroar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh I love that you experimented first and then came across this video to confirm it. We can learn so much about our voices simply by exploring different approaches, shapes and ways of expressing. I hope this video helped you feel more confident to follow your intuition when it comes to your voice. :)

    • @thatsweetroar
      @thatsweetroar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rem, so so glad it helped you! Unfortunately the Ah vowel is a little more complicated as it resonates differently and we may have to modify it as we go higher in our range (especially in contemporary music).
      It is included in a paid program I have over here though: thatsweetroar.com/vowel-shaping-studio

    Unlike some say that stretch lips ,but practically that looks not natural while speaking fast and in flow. The one which you explained is better .I have been trying it ,but while speaking fast ,it also is missed or skipped unintentionally.

    Hay Kim! First of all, thank you for the gorgeous work here on TH-cam. I'd like to know: what do you think about nasal resonance(I don't mean nasality)???

    • @thatsweetroar
      @thatsweetroar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Antonio, thanks so much for your lovely compliment and for taking the time to comment!
      Well the nasopharynx is certainly one of the resonating cavities for the voice. We want to alter the shape the vocal tract for what we perceive as the best balance in the resonating spaces and unfortunately sometimes when people try to add twang (nasality) to the tone, it's creating more tension than allowing the sound to resonate more naturally. One thing you do want to watch out for is letting air escape through your nose. Not sure if that answered your question, but I hope it helped!

    There's a certain point in the top of my range where I can sing the ee sound without my tongue touching my top teeth, is that okay to do or should that be avoided?

    • @thatsweetroar
      @thatsweetroar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it feels better to have the tongue high but not completely touching that's okay, just make sure it's not because you're over-lifting your soft palate though (I have a vid all about that too just in case).

    What about "I" as in Side, I, Night, Ride.

    • @thatsweetroar
      @thatsweetroar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! This is what we call a "diphthong" (two vowel sounds next to each other). You'll want to sing most of the note as an AH and the the very last second switch to an EE. :)

    • @dozermendoza
      @dozermendoza 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kimberley Smith AWESOME! Thanks for clearing that up.
