Apprently the plastic guide rod is considered to be more reliable than the steel rod as it can flex slightly and is also self lubricating to some degree
I recommend everybody get a Wilson Combat light trigger return spring. It’s so much easier to install than the factory one and it’s amazing on the trigger pull.
I would add a caveat for people with really big hands. I have to use the factory mag catch in lieu of the extended catch on my pistols. I had a couple that came with the extended catch and found that I would generally over-depress it and trap mags, especially on Compact-framed guns. The good news is that it's pretty quick and easy to swap them back to standard.
So Caleb how about a video on the 92 compact? I just came across one and was trying to decide on whether it would make a better choice than a full size LTT 92 for carry and competition
My Beretta is all metal to begin with except the plastic grips. The rear sight had a 3/4 single dot. Guide rod and trigger are metal. How do you measure the recoil springs strength? When did Beretta start using plastic? Sucks that users have to end up having to swap out this and that.
I have an 92FS I bought in the 1990s that is super broke in so to speak. All I ever did besides changeing recoil spring every few years was VZ grips and 14 pound main spring. I decided last year to retire it and now shoot CZ 75.
You know what, I go a little farther, but it looks like you and I run a pretty similar gun. I use VZ grips. Wilson Combat 16lb mainspring (D equivalent), Wilson extended checkered mag button (the circular one though), aluminum lanyard plug/msh, Wilson square notch rear sight (black), Beretta factory G conversion, Wilson steel guide rod. I do use the standard plastic coated trigger. I really like it, actually. Also, fun fact. It's steel, but plastic coated. A magnet will stick to it, in my experience. At some point I'm gonna send mine off to WC for checkering, fiber optic rod front sight (green), mag well beveling, and a carry bevel job.
I did very similar upgrades to my m9a1. I’m a big fan of the lanyard plug and the polymer coated trigger. I used the Wilson short reach for a little while and wasn’t impressed with the wiggle it had. The polymer trigger just felt better. I dropped my mainspring down to a 12lb hammer spring and even played with an Ernest Langdon polished 11lb hammer spring for a while before it started giving me light strikes.
So far I replaced the spring and spring rod, added a grip that’s adds a rail, flashlight and a new trigger but I want to get a new mag button and a compensator
@@MrRevolver classic firearms in NC. They look really good and I'm tempted myself but I already have a couple of "pizza blasters" (as some like to say).
That is great stuff just wanted to know how about the 92 skeletonized Hammer did all your upgrades but put the skeletonized hammer in I have never had any light hits. Thought it would work better with the D spring and hammer together for better trigger pull.
I have the Beretta 92 FS and the 92X both full size, where do you get the steel guide rods from? I want to change mine from the plastic ones. Thank you
I put the LOK grips in mine, added the D spring, added the extended mag release... and unfortunately had to break down and buy a sight pusher to move the rear sight a few mm from how it was sent from the factory. It may be snake oil, but I also added a Wilson Combat “buffer” plate that I feel like it keeps the slide from beating the frame. Good addition for roughly $8.00. Think I will follow suit and black out the rear sights for the same reasons you discussed. Believe it or not, I CC this one (M9A1) in a JM custom kydex. I love this Beretta. And I did install the G conversion (decocker)
try sanding down your wilson combat buffer a little.... it will still protect the frame but create less of that rubber feeling at the end of the shot. And yes I had to do the same thing as you did and invested in a sight pusher.
Do you have links to the sites you’d recommend purchasing dependable reliable springs from? I know there are several but not all are equally reliable, an important factor in my home defense pistol. Thanks.
toolman5741 IMHO, I don’t like mounted tack lights. I FBI carry a Surefire Steletto...gives me 360 degree discretionary coverage without giving the bad guy something to aim at. I’ve also replaced my trigger and guide rod with steel, my trigger return spring with a more durable Wilson Combat replacement, my hammer spring with a lower-power factory “D” spring and the chintzy plastic grips with factory aluminum.
M9A1 has a 13# hammer spring and the wilson combat hammer I also did the wilson combat mag wegde deal and their grips (also VZ) The M9 Langdon Special just came in so I have to break it in first
For my 92FS, I replaced my polymer-coated trigger with all steel, replaced the trigger return spring with a WC replacement, replaced the guide rod with steel, replaced the main/hammer spring with the factory “D” spring, the polymer lanyard/spring cap with steel and the chintzy plastic grips with factory aluminum grips. Nice video on one of the two best semi-automatics on the planet (I carry the other...the CZ 75D PCR, similarly tricked out). Be safe. Make a difference. Vote for Joe Biden in November.
@@MrRevolver Are the checkered sections of the factory grips impacted with baby powder, I mean...chalk? I would think that continued application of powder would eventually fill the grooves and slowly reduce the ability of the checkering to provide good friction surface. A quick trip through a dish washer does wonders for what ails your grip....not to mention the SO. :-}
ColdCanuck50 I have yet to get the powder so caked on that it does that. What’s far more important for my grip is keeping my hands dry in the Florida humidity.
Why is beretta using plastic on there guns!!! That’s ridiculous for a metal gun to have plastic trigger, glide rod and safety switch in plastic!! WTF Beretta stop trying to be like Glock!! Pretty soon you will be using plastic sites !!! I just don’t under stand why would they use a plastic trigger with such a heavy trigger pull!! I use Testors Fluorescent Orange on my front sight and Fluorescent Green on my rear sights of my 92FS. Every inexpensive, very effective!
BTW great video please make more on this great firearm.
I recommend everybody get a Wilson Combat light trigger return spring. It’s so much easier to install than the factory one and it’s amazing on the trigger pull.
Btw the factory trigger is steel, it just has some sort of coating to it. If you don't believe me check for yourself, it's magnetic.

Is the slide stop for the 92 Brigadier the same as the 92FS slide stop?
G-Conversion and D-Spring are my major changes. The grips are a distant third.
G conversion is only needed when you carry right? It's my first gun and i like the safety feature. Got it for range and home defense

Did you have to file your VZ grips to get the extended mag release to function? I had to file down my factory grips for it.
Nope
For grips what company did you buy from
VZ Grips
Thanks for sharing Caleb. I just saw some 92s LEO turn ins for$279 so a lot of folks should find this video interesting.

Sometimes really super light springs will give you light primer strikes, and that's a bad thing in a shooting.

My first handgun is the 92fs and I have just started in competition shooting. What do you recommend my first upgrade be?
A new mainspring from Langdon Tactical!
CG, since making this video, have you decided on any further upgrades for your 92s??
Oh goodness yes, second video forthcoming

Buy a Langdon Beretta 92 Elite LTT; no upgrades needed

It’s rad as fuck
It’s worth it. I added it to my Black M9a3. It is buttery smooth.
Do the fs accessories fit the 92x?
Depends on the accessory, grips definitely won't since the 92X uses the Vertec grip frame.
