@@lavishsavage187 I don't, but it would be very similar to this current video. Just put in the new coils in after taking them out. th-cam.com/video/YKhJHt6haN8/w-d-xo.html
I just finished replacing my seals a few days ago and this video was a great help. My smart car is 2013 and there were a couple differences like star bit size, but not any major differences. I don't have a rechargeable ratchet so I found buying a stubby ratchet helped in a couple tight spaces. It did take me quite a bit of time being that I have never done any work on a car before. I used paint markers to make sure what bolts went back in their proper places. Someone in the future will see it and laugh, but it worked for me so who cares.
This was a pain in the ass but Im so glad I had this video to show me what to do. I will say, the metal hose bit under the car was made easier with ratcheting wrenches. I didnt have to lower that brace so that saved me a step. There were a few areas where I had to buy low profile, high tooth count, ratcheting socket wrench set due to the tight spaces. My only complaint about the video is the camera angle being upside down from the view I have from the outside. I noticed Colin seemed to be working from inside the car, I suppose to get a better view. I had to watch the video on my phone and turn it upside down so I could orient myself on what I was looking for.
I'm glad you found the video useful, and were able to complete the job. I placed the camera to the left side of the engine bay from the back of the vehicle and was working from the outside. There were times when I placed the camera from the inside because the metal panel was blocking the view from the outside.
I can’t thank you enough for this video. I was able to change the valve cover gasket and spark plug seals on my 2008 Smart. The spark plug seals were old and oil was getting into the spark plug chambers. While it was a pain in the ass to work on this due to the tight and cramped space, at least I had some direction. I also wanted to add a few points from my experience: 1. I had to remove the heat shield on the exhaust manifold because a bolt fell into it while I was trying to securing the secondary valve from under the car. It turned out to be easier to work with the shield removed. 2. I had a torque wrench that I bought from Harbor Freight a while ago. It is 1/4” drive and is small enough wrench to torque the valve covers. The wrench only shows inch-pounds so I torqued the bolts to 110 inch-pounds. 3. I used an empty egg carton to sort out the bolts, which was very helpful. At the end of the day it feels great to get this done and probably saved me a thousand or two at the dealer.
Hello Paul, I'm glad you found the video helpful, and were able to perform the repair on your own to save money. Thank you for providing the tips outlined in your comment! Hopefully others are able to see and use them.
We're you getting misfires from the oil? I am getting misfires at high rpm, I wonder if it's the oil sipping in to sparkplugs. I replaced the fuel pump and this is next on the to do list
@@JesusGarcia-en3pj I saw a pool of oil in the spark plug cylinders, so I knew the seals needed to be replaced. I figured I'd replace the valve cover gasket while I had the cover off. Thanks for the question.
hello, i did this job and my gasket is leaking right in the lower corner on the passenger side of the valve cover. everything is tighten and i made sure it went the right way. do you have any idea why would it be leaking? i bought the same gasket you put on. if you can give me some insight i woudl really aprreciate it.
Hello, thanks for the question, and sorry to hear that it's leaking. Were you able to remove every piece of the old gasket from the cover and top of the engine? There may be residual debris causing a leak. I'd suggest wiping both parts with alcohol to ensure the surface is clean. Does the cover and top of engine look warped at any location? Did you apply a bead of RTV sealant before applying the gasket? It should help compensate for variations on the surface, and provide a tighter seal. I would double check that all of the bolts are tight. If you do everything above and it still leaks then I would apply a generous amount of RTV sealant on the valve cover and top of engine between the gasket where it's leaking. The RTV sealant alone should stop the leak.
i did the same repair and it's leaking in the same spot. there's another video here on you tube that said replace the valve cover with a pre installed gasket. did you get your's fixed??

Hello, i did this job and my valve cover leaks on the bottom right corner, I've tight to torque specs and it leaks, I've tried to tight tighter and still leaks, I've bought a different gasket thinking the previous gasket was cheaply made and still leaks, what could it be the problem?
Sorry to hear that. Did you apply RTV sealant before applying the gasket, especially in that corner? It should help create a better seal to prevent leaks.
