  • Sproles ran for two touchdowns in place of the injured LaDainian Tomlinson, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime to beat the Colts 23-17. With 105 yards rushing, 45 yards receiving and 178 return yards, Sproles finished the game with 328 all-purpose yards in the Chargers victory over the Colts, the third most all-purpose yards by a player in a single NFL post-season game in NFL history.[4][5] He was named the NBC Sunday Night Football "Horse Trailer Player of the Game" for the second consecutive week.

I remember this game vividly. I was in 6th grade at the time. It isn't the easiest thing in the world to be a charger fan. Each time we make it to the playoffs, even as a 6th seed, I keep thinking we are the greatest in the league. lol.

This game resulted in the sports media lamenting how Peyton never got a shot in overtime. This, along with the Saints defeating Favre's Vikings in the 2009 NFCCG by a FG, resulted in the modified sudden death rules, passed in 2010.
The funny thing is that even with the new OT rules, Peyton would still not touch the ball in OT.

Which would mean.. the NY Giants were the Super Bowl Champions the year before. You are definitely thinking of the game in 2007 divisional playoffs in Indianapolis. Just saying.

No sir. The year we won the Super Bowl was in 2006. We won it in 2007. However, since we went through the 2006 season to get there.. we are considered the 2006 Super Bowl Champions. You are thinking the year, before this game, when you beat us in Indianapolis 28-24. Billy Volek scored the winning touchdown, and you faced New England and got beat. The year before that game, we were the Super Bowl Champions. But, not this Wild Card game, that we played in 2009 playoffs. Which you guys won in OT.

+Jeff Mitchell Problem was, the sports media began lamenting how Peyton didn't touch the ball in OT. Combined with the same situation with Favre in 2010 (vs. the Saints, though in this case, they kicked a FG to end it), and they changed the OT rules so that both teams get a chance if one of them kicks a FG.
And it's Favre's fault for throwing that pick to Tracy Porter that sent the game to OT.

Tennessee won the division, so Indy was a WC team. SD won the AFC West at 8-8, hence receiving home field. Same way, the 7-9 Seahawks hosted the defending champ Saints team in '11. That's the flaw in NFL seeding.

+A. Kal Ah, okay. I thought that was the case. But how did Seattle make the playoffs while not finishing .500 or above? (This is my other account)

Watching this as LA chargers are 0-4 and are the embarrassment of the NFL. Needed a smile after they ditched us to bring back some good times.
Look at that team, prime Shaun Phillips, Prime Darren Sproles, Prime Vincent Jackson, Prime Malcom Floyd, Prime Rivers, Prime Gates, Prime Luis Vasquez, Prime Weddle, Prime Castillo
Amazing team ruined by front office and poor coaching and plane bad luck

AJ Smith happened. First firing Marty because they couldn't get along, instead of shoving their egos aside and trying to fix the mess from the 14-2 season where we lost to New England. Then he hired Norv stupid ass Turner. Over time AJ imploded the roster getting rid of vets like Sproles, Olshansky, etc and taking hard line ass approach in contract negotiations that isolated stars from each other (VJax, Marcus McNeill, LT, Gates). Telesco isn't any better but he inherited a huge mess from AJ Smith.

+gobluejackets Ownership from the Spanos family also played a role too including keeping AJ Smith way too long.
