Out of all the songs on Trilogy... This song is the song that defined his style. Dark tone, dark lyrics, and you feel the darkness. This is what people loved. I still get the same feeling on this track driving in daylight today as I did listening to it 7 years ago rolling down the street after bar hopping at night.

But hes also using the "fall" as juxtaposition for a drugs high wearing off and a real life situation, losing it all and that he isnt scared to start all over again, since hes been literally started from nothing(Being homeless). Also note how he isnt using high notes in the first part. The second part alot of people just think hes just harmonizes XO, and nothing more. But in fact its literally the opposite of the first part of his song. Him just singing XO meanings he needs drugs....He needs them to stay high, he doesnt want to stay on "ground", he wants to be in the sky. But, understanding that his songs tell his own story, he narrates the phases of his life (loves, struggles, addictions, success ...) I think he is on the right path. Exposing your life in music without pretending, brings the audience closer to him. As long as he has truth about his life in his songs, he will be successful. Because the music industry is full of artists who create parallel stories and feelings just because they sell, or because they are required. I hope Abel doesn't sell out at that point. I love current music, because I see the truth about its history. And I love the 80s and cinema. He managed to unite a fantastic time with cinema, and capture our hearts with these influences, while still telling about his life, and sharing his intimacy with his fans. That's what makes a difference. I would say that expressing your life in music is the secret to your success. He is not afraid to expose himself, to expose his pain, relationships, anger, addictions and loves. I like the sound, but, I like the old ones better because we feel your voice better, raw, direct, without effects ... Remember blasting this song years back when I lived in downtown Austin with my best bud from high school. We would throw parties every weekend and drink and smoke and snort lines every day. We had plenty of songs that lit up those nights but this song… This is song that people knew when it came on it was my song. I remember at one party for my birthday I took acid and my buddy was on ecstasy and we both looked at each other when this song came on and he knew. And I looked around at everybody at the party and it looked like they knew too. It felt like they expected me to go super saiyan or something. I ended chugging a small bottle of henny. I truly felt unstoppable in those days. I’ve been sober for 3 years now. Don’t know what my buddy is up to these days as we haven’t talked in a long time. I'm going to talk about The Weekend. Musically I like the music from the beginning. But, understanding that his songs tell his own story, he narrates the phases of his life (loves, struggles, addictions, success ...) I think he is on the right path. Exposing your life in music without pretending, brings the audience closer to him. As long as he has truth about his life in his songs, he will be successful. Because the music industry is full of artists who create parallel stories and feelings just because they sell, or because they are required. I hope Abel doesn't sell out at that point. I love current music, because I see the truth about its history. And I love the 80s and cinema. He managed to unite a fantastic time with cinema, and capture our hearts with these influences, while still telling about his life, and sharing his intimacy with his fans. That's what makes a difference. I would say that expressing your life in music is the secret to your success. He is not afraid to expose himself, to expose his pain, relationships, anger, addictions and loves. I like the sound, but, I like the old ones better because we feel your voice better, raw, direct, without effects ... A good point personally, is that the less explicit lyrics about sex, we can sing for the whole family kkkkk

Pink Floyd, the Beatles, and many others made the music that they did, because of drugs and the experience it allows them to reach outside of a sober, mundane perception. "Drugs" should be used for the experience, not solely recreational like you probably believe.

Lol!!! News flash a ton of people are on drugs. World leaders, famous people, even academics. Richard feynman (Nobel physicists) took lsd for crying out loud. Drugs have historically been an elite occupation. Nowadays the difference is people have no moderation/no aim for their intelligence so the drugs just leads them to a very bad place.
The weeknd had singing to lean on so obviously drugs amplified his singing creativity. Steve jobs had his business and so forth.
And of course not every drug should be used. Not everybody should take drugs either if they cant maintain functionality.
That being said the real and true drug is the love of life and is the safest drug to use!!! Drugs may expand your perspective and creativity but severe meditation will lead you to that place and beyond!!!

Remember blasting this song years back when I lived in downtown Austin with my best bud from high school. We would throw parties every weekend and drink and smoke and snort lines every day. We had plenty of songs that lit up those nights but this song… This is song that people knew when it came on it was my song. I remember at one party for my birthday I took acid and my buddy was on ecstasy and we both looked at each other when this song came on and he knew. And I looked around at everybody at the party and it looked like they knew too. It felt like they expected me to go super saiyan or something. I ended chugging a small bottle of henny. I truly felt unstoppable in those days. I’ve been sober for 3 years now. Don’t know what my buddy is up to these days as we haven’t talked in a long time. I’m glad I got all that partying out of my system but man it’s fun to reminisce on those nights. Good days. Bad for my body in the long run tho. But I’m happy how everything turned out. I swear this song is a time machine
