I'm old and a dad. I have always been a major Rock and Alternative Rock fan. I complain about "music these days." The Weeknd is the best artist I have heard in the last 20 years.
I'm not an OG I started from blinding lights but when I heard all his other songs....and I thought.how tf didn't I hear any of this legend's songs before .... I'm so thankful that I did listen to them.... This man is the greatest of our generation....and man these old songs slap so hard...i am obsessed with this man and his music. XO FOREVER.
same here. I knew him from can't feel my face and the hills but after hearing after hours i finally got into all his old stuff and holy fuck i'm in love. if it wasn't for all these mixtapes i wouldn't be such a diehard fan rn.
true I wasnt a big weeknd fan when he dropped Trilogy. but as I've gotten older and matured with different styles of music I appreciate his style more.
Yes. I went down all his mixtapes rabbit hole. Got sucked in because it reminded me of my quarter life crisis. Didn't live what he writes about but thought almost everything. If only they took something other than photos.
Yeah I was pretty into the weekend after the hills was played everywhere then I kinda never heard of him again and now just remember how amazing all his old shit was. New stuff is so impressive to see that he hasn't changed much from the first sing released in this channel to how he sounded with his set at the super bowl.
+William Robinson yes I did. and I made sure we met up more but driving through LA, 3am, had a bit of everything, white girl, lucy and bud. bumped all of Trilogy, and Kissland and his new stuff now.
on my first day of uni i met a girl in class and we liked eachother right away. when i saw on her facebook that she had a XO profile pic i knew why our souls connected hahaha
If you really look at it, lyrics are scary ass shit. Poor girl can't breathe and trying to leave but he just tells her to open the window and trying to convince her that in fact it's really a happy house and that they're happy and it's fun and she's terrified, but she "belongs to him" and he won't let her go. Abel is a fucking genius.
Not really scary, just ironic. its not like shes inhaling Joker gas or noxious fumes lol. Its just weed smoke or drug smoke. They arent happy, so the irony is that its a happy house. Also, I think one of the samples comes from a song that has the same irony so he might have been influenced by it.
First starboy, and then after hours and then beauty behind the madness, my dear melancholy, and now I'm here. Gotta say this dude keeps growing and growing . He has this thing with his voice he can express his feelings so easy. And you can feel the same feeling he is feeling in the song. It's just unbelievable and amazing..gotta say this has to be my favourite track ever. LEGIT.
Yeah, may I reccomend Tears in the rain, adaptation, love in the sky (listen til the end on that one, it changes), kissland (Also has a transition in the middle), pretty, the birds, wicked games, twenty eight, the knowing and high for this. The rest will come to you.
To all the Usher stans who have come here to check out House of Balloons: The Weeknd was referring to the sound of his whole mixtape titled House of Balloons, not necessarily this particular track. XO
@@KnowledgeSeeker78491 You can't control what your voice sounds like. This song sounds nothing like a michael jackson song. His big pop songs kinda do but this... No sir.
I don't know where the f was I, all these years, I was sleeping on the weeknd , hearing this for the first time in 2024, this is timeless masterpiece. When I first heard it some days ago I thought it was his newly released track or something. Can't believe it came out 13 years ago.
I can't wrap my mind around how talented this guy is... And it depresses me to see what kind of audience he has. The homage to Siouxsie is amazing and I'm sad to see his creativity dwindling with popularity.
Brilliant song by a very talented singer and lyricist. The backing tracks are so atmospheric, dark and futuristic. It's a shame that most of his fans probably have no idea who Siouxsie is.
airbaler no its very true. wtf is his newer songs like often, sounds like shit but they are the ones that make him the money and make him more main stream which is sad. but i dont blame him one bit trying to cater to the mainstream. thats the dream tho
Siouxsie & The Banshees is the elixir sustaining the first half of the Happy House here. Haha...Saw them in concert "back in the days"... Abel using a Siouxsie track sample as the core of this track was wonderful & nostalgic. That, and alluding to the Cocteau Twins ('Heaven or Las Vegas') really had me thinkin', "This guys sonic landscapes..." 🎼🎶🎧🎛🔊 ...and a lotta folks will never know...
Still my favorite song after 5 years. What The Weeknd put out with House of balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence will always be underrated because he was still underground but the truth is the Trilogy is probably one of the greatest bodies of work in music history.

I'm old and a dad. I have always been a major Rock and Alternative Rock fan. I complain about "music these days."
The Weeknd is the best artist I have heard in the last 20 years.
siousxie souix?
Happy house sample!

Agree brother
I'm not an OG I started from blinding lights but when I heard all his other songs....and I thought.how tf didn't I hear any of this legend's songs before .... I'm so thankful that I did listen to them.... This man is the greatest of our generation....and man these old songs slap so hard...i am obsessed with this man and his music. XO FOREVER.

There many secret gems
This song was light years ahead of its time

Still is
true I wasnt a big weeknd fan when he dropped Trilogy. but as I've gotten older and matured with different styles of music I appreciate his style more.
+Dieter Morgan you need to check on the dream crown jewel album b side album unrelated yet..but on this before dream..but both are nice
This song is sampled from the banshees
This is 100% in contention for the best song ever. The hook on the first half is so intoxicating.
That beat switch is the cure to Coronavirus.

Yes
@Henry Rodriguez It has nothing to do with covid-19.
@j26 you literally posted 5 comments from this account and all of them are trash. (Great argument j26, very creative)
@j26 another great argument. Bet you dont have a dad.
It’s been 12 years and this song still and will always have a place in my heart
Fans that don’t respect an artists creative progression aren’t fans at all.
It means they were a fan of his previous work but not the artist
But you can appreciate the classics
Exactly of course he’s changed and evolved but I still love like every album
Say dat shit louder
so what? a fan and someone who appreciates music are two different things.
listening to this is like entering a whole new world 🤍
Abel makes music so you can experience drugs without doing drugs
Or doing them🤫
Yes. I went down all his mixtapes rabbit hole. Got sucked in because it reminded me of my quarter life crisis. Didn't live what he writes about but thought almost everything. If only they took something other than photos.
Someone put this song on when I was high off of Molly and this shit hit different
This shit gave me actual acid flashbacks.

I wonder how many people are gonna look into his old music now that he played it at the super bowl
Yeah I was pretty into the weekend after the hills was played everywhere then I kinda never heard of him again and now just remember how amazing all his old shit was. New stuff is so impressive to see that he hasn't changed much from the first sing released in this channel to how he sounded with his set at the super bowl.
I heard this at the Superbowl and I went through some of his older songs from like 2015 backwards. Absolutely fantastic
alot bro
@@olly7155 I’m glad you like his older music 😌
that is exactly what i did
I blasted this in my apartments, neighbor girl came over and was like "Oh my god you too?'", ended up smoking a blunt with her to the whole album.

did you smash?
Fucking legendary
+William Robinson yes I did. and I made sure we met up more but driving through LA, 3am, had a bit of everything, white girl, lucy and bud. bumped all of Trilogy, and Kissland and his new stuff now.

Listening to this and seeing the Hurry Up Tomorrow Cover as his pfp has me in shambles 😭🫶🏽🔥 We’re gonna miss you
"Happy House" by Siouxsie and the Banshees (1980) is being sampled/covered on this song.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SAID IT
I don't know why, but I'm sad when everyone don't know about original
Thank you for saying this! THIS is what amazes me about him and this song! He was brave enough to sample a very independently classic 80s group.
i was looking for a comment that said this !!
thats literally where i came from (an insta reel that said this)

@@denizsevindi6032 Talking 'bout a face numbing off a bag a blow
If you really look at it, lyrics are scary ass shit. Poor girl can't breathe and trying to leave but he just tells her to open the window and trying to convince her that in fact it's really a happy house and that they're happy and it's fun and she's terrified, but she "belongs to him" and he won't let her go. Abel is a fucking genius.
Thousand people, thousand perceptions, thousand perceptions
It "hurts to breathe" cause they're stuffing coke up their noses.
it’s more like pressuring suggestions rather than literally making her open a window, like “we’re having fun so you’ll be fine, just open a window”
I always thought it was about a girl on a bad trip or maybe just having a panic attack because shes on too many uppers.

To all the Usher stans who have come here to check out House of Balloons:
The Weeknd was referring to the sound of his whole mixtape titled House of Balloons, not necessarily this particular track.

Yeah sounds like Usher did kinda sample his style.

You saved your own life
[Part I: House of Balloons]
[Intro]
Uh, oh, ayy, yeah, yeah
[Verse 1]
Been on another level since you came, no more pain
You look into my eyes, you can't recognize my face
You're in my world now, you can stay, you can stay
But you belong to me, ooh, you belong to me
[Chorus]
If it hurts to breathe, open a window (Woo-ooh)
Oh, your mind wants to leave (Leave), but you can't go
Oh, this is a happy house (A happy house)
We're happy here (We're happy here)
In a happy house
Oh this is fun, fun, fun, fun
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Fun, fun, fun, fun
[Verse 2]
Music got you lost
Nights pass so much quicker than the days did
Same clothes, you ain't ready for your day shift
This place will burn you up
But, baby, it's okay, them my niggas next door
And they working in the trap, so get naughty if you want
So don't blame it on me that you didn't call your home
So don't blame it on me, girl, 'cause you wanted to have fun
[Chorus]
If it hurts (Woo) to breathe
Open a window (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, your mind wants to leave but you can't go (Ooh)
This is a happy house
We're happy here in a happy house
Oh this is fun, fun, fun, fun (This is fun)
Fun, fun, fun, fun (This is fun to me)
Fun, fun, fun, fun (Ooh)
[Part II: Glass Table Girls]
[Segue]
Bring the 707 out
Bring the 707 out
Bring the 707 out
Bring the 707 out
Bring the 707 out
Bring the 7
[Verse 3]
Two puffs for the lady who be down for that
Whatever, together
Bring your own stash of the greatest, trade it
Roll a dub, burn a dub, cough a dub, taste it
Then watch us chase it
With a handful of pills, no chasers
Jaw clenching on some super-sized papers
And she bad and her head bad
Escaping, her van is a Wonderland
And it's half-past six
Read skies 'cause time don't exist
But when the stars shine back to the crib
Superstar lines back at the crib
And we can test out the tables
We got some brand new tables
All glass and it's four feet wide
But it's a must to get us ten feet high
She give me sex in a handbag
I get her wetter than a wet nap
And no closed doors
So I listen to her moans echo
"I heard he do drugs now"
You heard wrong, I been on it for a minute
We just never act a fool, that's just how we fuckin' live it
And when we act a fool, it's probably 'cause we mixed it
Yeah, I'm always on that okey dokey
Them white boys know the deal, ain't no fuckin' phony
Big O know the deal, he the one who showed me
Watch me ride this fucking beat like he fuckin' told me
"Is that your girl, what's her fucking story?"
"She kinda bad but she ride it like a fucking pony"
I cut down on her man, be her fuckin' story
Yeah, I'm talking 'bout you, man, get to know me
Ain't no offense, though, I promise you
If you a real man, dude, you gon' decide the truth
But I'm a nice dude with some nice dreams
And we could turn this to a nightmare: Elm Street
[Outro]
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
I'm so gone, so gone
Bring out the glass tables (Ooh, ooh)
Bring the 707 out
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
I'm so gone, so gone
Bring out the glass tables (Ooh, ooh)
Bring the 707 out
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
I'm so gone, so gone
Bring out the glass tables (La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) (Ooh, ooh)
Bring the 707 out
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
I'm so gone, so gone
Bring out the glass tables
Bring the 707 out (La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la)
Bring the 707 out (La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la)
