Why the hell would they think your fan base was a good demographic to advertise to lmfao? Oh well if it helps the channel who cares. I doubt they'll get 1 client from this ad, pretty dumb on them, but whatever.
I’m surprised he didn’t mention what happens if you do sheogorath’s quest in cyrodil AFTER completing the shivering isles where when you talk with the statue, Haskil responds with “praying to yourself again my lord?”
There are actually several responses that either Haskil or the original Sheogorath can give you depending on how far you've progressed in the Shivering Isles.
its also the reason some people experience glitches while others will not, even when trying to replicate it. this does not apply to just the elder scrolls, he has power over every game. He has been targeting the AAA game companies for a while now.
A thing I like about Sheo/Jyggalag dynamic is that it feels very fitting for a god of order to become one of madness. Trying to bring order to the entirety of existence? That's one sisyphean labour, everyone would go a little crazy trying to accomplish such a thing
Escapes prison->enters the Shivering isles-> returns to Cyrodiil as a madgod->finally delivers the amulet of kings->uses madgod powers to troll Mehrunes Dagon and his daedra.
Technically you can rock up against him after being blessed with artifacts from every Daedric prince (including his own Razor) aswell as being Sheo and the guy still steps up to the plate. Mehrunes a Chad 😂😎
I could absolutely see a story about Sheogorath where he decides to kill some mortal, because why not, but the mortal effortlessly swats away all the attempts. At the end of the mortals natural life, Sheogorath comes before the dying mortal and asks how they where able to best him for so long. “Simple really. So long as I kept you entertained, you’d have no reason to ACTUALLY kill me.” And the two of them laugh and laugh, all the way back to the Shivering Isles, for only the truly mad could best the Mad God
This does tie in to a certain detail that Haskill brings up. Sheo is truly grateful for you helping to stop Dagon in Oblivion and Alduin in Skyrim. The mad god cannot be entertained by the dead. You saved all of mortal kind, and in doing so, saved Sheo’s entertainment. It’s likely why he’s more amicable to the player character in each game he appears in, simply cause you’re the one fated to save the world or stop a deadly crisis.
@@fireblast133speaking of fate, jyggalag had the ability to basically see into the future, so it would make sense for sheogorath to know you have a fate to save the world, and therefore be thankful that his fun in spreading madness to mortals wont be coming to an end
Counter theory: Jyggalag isn't actually crazy, he just knows that the only possible way that he could take over oblivion was to first become sheogorath. No matter what he did, the other daedra would always stop him. So he set it up so that they had another problem. One that they would have to focus on instead of him. One that would allow him to eventually sneak off, and consolidate power somewhere else. He's playing the long game
I find this a convincing take, as a being that would know what’s to come he must’ve seen it coming- I’ll also add that order is not necessarily a completely neutral force, I’d describe him as more of a being of entropy- the universe as a whole is a constant battle of entropy vs chaos, and if the way things in the world of elder scrolls play out like how we think it will in our own universe, eventually order and entropy will win, ending in a constant nothingness devoid of… anything, really
only thing is tho that the new sheogorath isnt on the bad side of any of the daedra (with the exception of merunes dagon i guess) unlike jyggalag. and if jyggalag realy can see the future hed know that the new sheogorath wouldnt just sit by and let him fuck up the mortal realm with his order. so if anything jyggalag now has one more daedric prince to worry about than befor and one that already beat him.
@@IwonyoulostLOLwell, Jyggalag is still "around" during Skyrim. He just doesn't show up. I imagine he's secretly consolidating power somewhere. Also, I'm really sad there's not a Daedric Quest for Jyggalag in Skyrim.
Jyggalag and Sheo's cycle always amazed me. Going insane and sane again in a mathematically perfect cycle of order. Yet they repeat the same emotions and actions, expecting something to change- which is insanity. Sheos insanity is a perfect form of order. Jygallags order is a perfect form of insanity. Theres no way to seperate or define the two, no logical or illogical conclusion to reach. All you can do is enjoy the ride!
"Ah Yes the God of the Shivering Isles I presume?" "Jolly good guess. But only half right. I'm a mad god. The Mad God, actually. It's a family title. Gets passed down from me to myself every few thousand years."
“You know, I was there for that whole sordid affair. Marvelous times! Butterflies, blood, a Fox and severed head... Oh, and the cheese! To die for.” - Butterflies refers to the butterflies first seen in the Shivering Isles - Blood of the Daedra from the Quest Martin sends you on - The fox representing the Grey Fox - The severed head of Mathieu Bellamont, the Dark Brotherhood traitor of course the cheese is a little nod to Sheo’s famous “CHEESE FOR EVERYONE!” It could also reference the cheese in Sheo’s Daedric quest. Might be stretching a bit, but I still think it’s awesome 🧀
@@Hayantixout of curiosity since you seem to know more than i do when it comes to elder scrolls lore is there anything concrete on the character from oblivion being sheo? I always thought it was the case but i cant seem to find anything outside of skyrims sheo bringing up stuff that oblivions sheo shouldn't have been privy to given his lack of care for what's going on in the mortal plane
@@gatordragon6140 Outside of the original points I’ve made there’s nothing too concrete that proves that he’s the Hero of Kvatch. However, considering that Shivering Isles takes place at the end of Oblivion, and Skyrim is chronologically a sequel to Oblivion, it’s a safe assumption that the player character becomes Sheo during the end of the Shivering Isles and the events that take place during the 100 year gap in-between Oblivion and Skyrim. I also believe that Sheo having a redesign in Skyrim could imply that he’s not quite the same as he was before, him having whited out eyes instead of yellow cat eyes, his hair being longer with a different style, his beard being shorter and less defined, and his outfit looking distinctly different than it did before during Oblivion.
So while there is no concrete answer given to use by Sheo or anyone else, it’s a safe assumption that he is the Hero of Kvatch. I’ll be it a much more insane and godlike version of them
I like the meaning behind the origins of Sheogorath. That Jiggalag was always destined to end up insane, because he was seeking order in a chaotic place, in an unpredictable universe.
Who else could free himself from Jyggalag and the cycle completely, if not the God of Madness. The Daedra made him capable of *making his own fate.* Hehe. And then he fused with a Shezzarine. A Daedra deformatted by the other Princes with a little bit of Freedom in him.
About the mantling thing, my personal take is that when the Champion of Cyrodiil mantled Sheogorath, Sheogorath’s consciousness sort of ‘latched’ onto them. That might explain why Sheo’s voice acting and appearance is so close to his appearance in Oblivion
I believed mantling a god in the elder scrolls means you become set god so the consciousness being latched goes further. Your consciousness doesn't exist anymore for you are now sheogorath
@@PapsIGuess31I think there’s still some of the Oblivion protagonist left. The new Sheogorath still likes Martin Septim and your Daedra quest is helping an old tortured soul finally find peace
Mantling in my ubderstanding is a person larps as a specific being so much that the universe spazzes the f out to the point it confuses the larper as that said person thats why talos has a confusing origin since hes actually 3 distinct people that took in the name of talos.
My favorite story is how Sheogorath beat Hircine's challenge. It's a lesson of terrifying insight: No matter how powerful, indomitable or fierce someone is, they can never be saved from themselves and their personal failings. Even if nobody else holds the keys to your downfall, you yourself always will. If you want to truly destroy someone, what you need to know is what will awaken this, this... itch, be it obsession, mistrust, madness, addiction or hunger for power. Once you do that, you can just sit back and watch them destroy themselves. It kinda mirrors how Jyggalag was cursed to become Sheogorath as well as the story about the wizard who became mad even though Sheogorath did nothing but let him stew in his paranoia for a few days.
The Shivering Isles DLC is fascinating in how its story unfolds. In devising a way to break the curse, the two sides of the same coin wind up subconsciously working together.
I just finished another playthrough of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and I am always excited upon my arrival to the Shivering Isles to witness the Mad God himself. What a grand character in Video Game history.
The Shivering Isles was the greatest thing ever produced from the Elder Scrolls franchise. It was so much fun. No overwhelming message to go be a hero. Sheogorath knew what we were about. "Go out there and murder hobo!"
I’m not sure if it’s intentional but I always assumed , Jyggalag having a crystalized aesthetic meant he symbolized ‘Ice’ which is a Solid and Static version of water, contrasting the rest of the Oblivion which symbolizes a wild ocean where waters flow in a chaotic and unpredictable manner.
Sheogorath may seem to have no shrines or temples in skyrim, but upon more careful exploration of the countryside, odd pillairs are occasionally found, topped by a wheel of cheese, with a note saying "rule 1: Do not disrespect the cheese"
I like to point out that even as sheogorath one thing he kept from his previous incarnation is his intelligence. How he out right outsmarts his daedric princes in competitions and his plans on the shiverings isles dlc how to get the MC acclimated to his realm, then establishing you to a positioning of power that will fight for madness, finally the conclusions gets him a new body free of the curse.
I think the two split sides of The Shivering Isles symbolize the two sides of Sheogorath, Mania is his new "form" and mindset thriving in insanity and Dementia is him forgetting his organized past when he was Jygalag.
"Sheogorath's favorite pastime is torture, and Sheogorath himself claims to have spent his first three to four thousand years of existence tormenting butterflies, before eventually growing out of it." - Skooma Cat's Playthings, the fourth Puzzle Set, Legends, released on October 30, 2019. People who try to kill themselves in his realm of Shivering Isles to escape him, are forever bound as bodiless ghosts howling in anguish. Sheogorath is not willingly relinquishing any soul of mentally disturbed. These are to be his playthings for eternity until broken beyond repair. Sheogorath is god-damn demon, spoiled child bully, psychopathic, sadistic villain of the worst sort where even death gives no escape from his attentions. He might just very well be scariest, and certainly most sadistic villain in the series.
Michael kirkbride is quoted as agreeing the shivering isles was good, but wished he stayed on to change it... as a dlc focused on the realm on the realm of Sheogorath... that a player playing it should maybe not wanna finish it
How was music created? Sheogorath was bored and on a walk... So he disemboweled random passersby and used sking and bones to make a drum them beat a melody on it
@@cathulionetharn5139 Isn't it nice of him? He gifted all of those poor sad people with intricately handcrafted instruments! Now they hearts can be filled with joy!
@@westleybosley7154 Sounds about right! After all, behind those pretty butterflies and random NPC´s, his realm is pretty much permanent prison and site of torment for souls driven to madness, most of which have been reduced to a state that rehabilitation is impossible. Mantling Sheo seems punishment to me, rather than reward, as your own persona is subsumed. If it was possible, I think good ending would be for player to become independent demi-prince of Oblivion, after receiving portion of Sheogorath/Jyggalag essence during the end of Greymarch, when realm of madness rejects them as "too sane" or something. While bad ending is that sphere of madness fully subsumes you as its representative.
@@matiasluukkanen7718 In Skyrim Sheogorath leads the player to lessen the insanity of Pelagius the Mad. So maybe the CoC's influence made him a kinder person.
I really like the idea that part of the Champion taking on Sheggy's mantle involves absorbing some of his memories and personality, so much so that the old Champion is subsumed by him, or that Jyggalag handed over his godliness, technically making there be two Sheogoraths in the world
It's not how it works though. When you mantle, you -become- the thing. The Champion -became- Sheogorath, and skipped that cycle over by defeating Jyggalag
There weren't two after the Hero of Kvatch mantled Sheogorath - that simply made Jyggalag and Sheogorath two separate entities that can exist at the same time. I hope it leads to some deep Oblivion hijinks later in the series.
@@kyrasoze516 Indeed, there can only be one Sheogorath. That was the point of the whole thing. Jyggalag can't turn back into Sheogorath because you're Sheogorath.
From a Morgan & Morgan sponsor to a cameo from the mad god himself. This one definitely had the insane energy of the main man himself. You outdid yourself ghost, keep it up! 🖤
Wes Johnson looking like the character he voiced is hilariously appropriate and meta to the lore you pointed out in the video and I'm loving it. Big congratulations to getting him and totally agree with your theory of the 2 Sheogoraths. As someone who started with Skyrim and went backwards through the games, coming back to 5's quest with more knowledge of the history and the subtle change in character design(because it's not like they couldn't have put the beard on that Sheo model, they had close enough ones that it would have been a simple leap) gave me the thought that it was the Hero of Kvatch's ultimate fate. Which is also cool because then you have two Player Characters meeting each other like with the Vault Dweller in Brotherhood of Steel.
I like the Irony that the fear of the other Daedra created the being that constantly defeats them in Oblivion contests. Also, the voice actor at the end, the spitting image of the Mad Prince with the 2 replica staffs is simply too magnificent for words. You've really outdone yourself with this video.
What's more terrifying than an army led by a perfect general? Bad Luck. You can fight the Greymarch. You can't fight Uncle Sheo deciding one day to fuck _you_ up in particular, and then retreating back to his own sphere.
This video is so well put together. Don't skip The Origin of the Princes at the beginning because it is just as skillfully composed as the rest of the video. Every time a video of Ghostcharm comes out I think to myself "I'm gonna have a little sitty sit and watch this little video." And then I watch it and I am absolutely blown away at how good it is every time. Have my like and my praise. I look forward to next time.
@@zatchbell5678 the only parts that are true is Aedra meaning ancestor and being spirits who constructed and stayed in Mundus, and Daedra meaning not-ancestor and being ones who did not take part in the construction of Mundus and instead carved out their own spaces in Oblivion. They're all et'Ada and there's four factions of et'Ada, all being created by some interplay of the forces of Anu and Padomay. Purely Anuic are the Magna Ge, who left Mundus to return to Aetherius and created the sun and stars when they punched through Oblivion. Purely Padomaic are the Daedra who are more gods associated with change and influence rather than just evil, dark, or "anti-gods". The Aedra are a mix of Anuic and Padomiac, and exist as the eight planets of Mundus orbiting Nirn. The last are Ehlnofey who didn't want to abandon the creation and stayed behind to become the Earthbones, the natural laws of the universe, and went on to create or populate the races that inhabit Nirn.
The thing that makes Sheogorath scary is if he every really wanted to he probably could take over Nirn, he knows exactly how to manipulate and prod people to do what he wants, he also might be able to see the future, or at least predict the results of actions taken, like with the meteor he chucked at Morrowind, sure the tribunal stopped it, but when the tribunal fell apart so did the magic stopping the meteor, causing it to smash into the ground and set off Red Mountain, there the potential that from the moment he was going to take that action he knew exactly what the tribunal were going to do and how the story would end. The only reason he's not more of a threat is because it's all a game to him, he's in it to have fun and nothing more.
Sheogorath, and the Shivering Isles expansion is what really cemented my love of the series. He was so intriguing to learn about, his script was endlessly amusing, and I loved exploring his kingdom. This video was really good! I think now I have to give the Shivering Isles another playthrough, and I certainly now have to buy a cameo from the man himself! The video was good and I was pleased by the end, and then you hit us with the personalized message, and I damn near squealed. I'm so glad I found out he's doing cameo! I've never wanted a message from a celebrity more!
Jyggolag seems like a pretty chill dude, in all honesty. He got beaten, and just decides to take his leave and congrats you for it. Also, there's technically 18 Princes. Counting Jyggolag, there was also another Prince who ran The Deadlands before Mehrunz was created. Mehrunz later killed thar Prince, and left his name to be forgotten by history.
there are far more than just 18 daedric princes - the one slain by mehrunes dagon and the additional ones we know of now are just a drop in the bucket of the possibly endless amount of daedric princes and lords that exist. The roughly 16-18 ones we know are merely the ones that align with mortal concepts and mortal comprehension
This is my personal theory that since daedra can take on the shape and forms they wish no matter what the player looked like he ended up changing his visage to match that of the one who mentored him into madness in a way as a sign of respect.
I personally think the reason Jyggalag was willingly repeating his cycle over and over again and while possibly seeing his downfall continued anyway, is because it’s his nature to put things in order, he sees chaos and madness and must challenge it, must place order to it, he is compelled to do because it’s what makes him, him.
To me jiggalag represents entropy in the elder scrolls universe His grand order would essentially be the death of the universe. A grand stillness where causality ends and things simply are without effecting the existence of other things. Irl, we have a concept known as heat death, an end of the universe where all energy that could cause a reaction (read; literally what all life and history is made of) is used up and all that's left is just some matter in its most base form sitting there. We don't know exactly what matter will sit there, or if anything happens after this, but it is essentially the universe dying and becoming calm and still. In both situations order is achieved, the chaos of the universe coming to an end, but life can't exist in a universe without chaos to drive it forward
That cameo with Uncle Sheo at the end made my day ^_^ Thanks Wes, for all the fond deliciousness we have of cheese because of your legendary performance. Hope to see you soon in TES6!
I honestly think jygalag was always the prince of madness because maybe he only thought he knew his true purpose and was mad because even he did not truly achieve true order if you really look into it
For order is the true end to the world of wonders and hope, there will never be fear or bravery for all under the sun shall be one and eternal. Change will not come, World will not end, History will not be written, Laws will not be changed. For extra effect read it with his voice(both would be interesting).
I remember playing the shivering isles dlc in oblivion and getting to a quest where Sheogorath wants me to summon Haskill, but for some reason when you do the game doesn't progress. It turned out to be a bug but i honestly thought that it was a part of the quest and you had to figure out why it wouldn't let you go further
I have to say man, you are a fantastic storyteller. Don’t get me wrong the source material is fantastic and you’re devotion to these games is evident, but you really have a knack for telling stories. I loved the video, keep up the great work!
I've only watched half of the video, so I'm not sure if you'll mention it later, but i really love the 16 Accords of Madness. The idea of Sheogorath going to each Daedric Prince and beating them at what they do best is brilliant. I hope we get more of these books in the future
The pain in his voice when he says that his plan was failing and that his realm is dead, I kinda felt that, even though he's batshit crazy he has some sort of care for his realm, he was tired of the constant shifts, Wes Johnson certainly made me feel sorry for Sheogorath in that moment
That and the various actions he’s taken makes me think that he doesn’t just care about his realm but he may view madness as a form of happiness. What’s the point of entertainment if you don’t share the joy with others.
Elder Scrolls blades may have been a not-great part of the series, but it does have what is at least a nod to sheogorath, being the character Theodor Gorlash, who looks and talks like sheogorath. Also, his name “Theodor Gorlash” is and anagram of “Lord Sheogorath”.
Azura lead the Nerevarine Sheogorath the Hero of Kvatch / Champion Of Cyrodil The Dragonborn with Hermaeus Mora I noticed this alarming Trend the other day it seems that all of the protagonists from the Elder Scrolls games are heavily influenced by a Daedric prince... One can only guess which Daedric prince will choose the player character.. I believe it'll be one of the lesser-known entities in the Elder Scrolls universe....
He's not a Daedric prince, but I would love for the Ebony Warrior to take an interest, haha. Especially since he's supposedly a redguard and next elder scroll will take place, at least in part in Hammerfell.
@@Cartis88 pretty sure the ebony warrior's death is canon. unless you want to consider the dragonborn to be the new ebony warrior, which would make sense, especially given the ebony warrior like characters in the other scrolls games like that one orc from morrowind.
Now that you say it’s made me realize something. It’s interesting that each game in the main Elder Scrolls series from Morrowind onward have each had an expansion/dlc dedicated to a Daedric Prince in some way. Morrowind had Hircine’s grand hunt under the Blood Moon, Oblivion the Last Greymarch in the sheogorath’s shivering isles, and Skyrim had the legendary battle between two Dragonborn in the realm of forbidden knowledge of Hermaeus Mora. Makes you wonder if they’ll continue the trend with Elder Scrolls 6 and which one they’d focus on….
Sheogorath's realm is so beautiful and dangerous. And as someone who suffers from bipolar disorder, it captures so much of how I feel during different phases of the illness. The depression and terrifying delusions, the paranoia, feeling like soneone or something is after you. And the mania. The delusions of grandure. The unmatched feelings of utter creativity. The strange and wonderful flight of ideas. The absolute delight of bringing a piece of art to life. And strange as it sounds, I don't want to give up my illness entirely. There is a creative passion that I can't fully describe. And frankly, a little bit of madness is part of who I am. I take my meds of course. But it isn't a cure. My symptoms are just at a more managable level. After all, I do still have responsibilities. I can't spend days without sleep, paying attention to only my artwork. I have kids. And they need love, care, and attention.
Hm. I like to think that the deal with Sheo in Skyrim is one of two things: The Champion of Cydoril is still *mostly* sane, he just plays the character of Sheogorath to keep things going. Depending on how you play that quest, Sheo is not quite as negatively insane. He sends you to help Pelagius be more comfortable in his madness. Or, maybe, the Champion of Cyrodil was *created* by Sheogorath as his child and future self.
Simply said: the hero of kvatch just did not simply became someone claiming the title of sheogorath, daedric of madness, he quite literally became sheogorath himself. He literally transformed into the sheogorath we saw before, he did a quest for. With all his powers, looks and even his undying love for cheese. In other words, the hero of kvatch seeked out sheogorath, helped sheogorath and became sheogorath.
11:20 as I understand the Daedra generally being more chaotic is only a coincidence because the only thing that defines them is that they didn't invest power into Mundus. I can imagine that most of them rejected Lorkhan's pitch because the mortal plane would be too restrictive for their taste, but I bet Jyggalag felt the opposite: that Mundus would be too messy and random compared to his own crystalline realm.
I would love an Elderscrolls game where Jigalag and Sheogorath helping the hero in their journey. Because after the events of the Shivering ilses dlc Jigalag technically turned into an Aedra.
After Thousands of hours in Elder Scrolls Games, and hundreds of hours of lore videos, and I'm STILL shocked whenever someone reminds me that there are Sixteen Daedric Princes.
The Shivering Isles is and will forever my favorite DLC that has ever been made. The storyline was so interesting, the world itself was beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Fantastic breakdown and I've always been a fan of the theory that the Sheo you meat in Skyrim is the hero from Kvatch. "CHEESE FOR EVERYONE! ....WAIT....NO CHEESE!"
I like to think that Skyrims questline indicates the current Sheo is a bit more compassionate. He's less aggressive towards you than what you'd expect and sets in motion a chain of events that seems to put pelagius to rest, freeing him of his madness. I personally like to think the Champion becoming the new mad god has led to a relatively more "heroic" sheogorath
I think the Sheogorath we see in skyrim is the Hero of Kvatch since he bears a striking resemblance to the standard character model for the hero that you see when making a character plus he speaks about events that the hero was present for
Sheogorath, Majima Goro, Handsome Jack, Joker, Tyler Durden, Palawa Joko. It's not about the insanity, it's about the charisma. Crazy and likable are often corelative.
Regarding Jyggalag’s status as a Daedra: Aedra and Daedra are separated by whether they assisted in the creation of Mundus, yes? So the title has no bearing on their morality. Jyggalag can perform good and bad deeds based on their obsession for control, it doesn’t make them Aedra.
Coming home to watch this after my radiation, with the cancer in my right frontal lobe-the part that governs emotion. This video is great, and it comes as delicious irony. Fuckin A man, good stuff
I figure the best way to go about the outcome of the Shivering Isles is that Jiggalag learned to coexist with Sheogorath as equally important facets of the world. For sure he still wants to spread order but not to the point of total destruction of everything else. Both seemed pretty tired and unhappy with the perpetual cycle of destruction they were stuck in as a single individual.
I personally believe that the 4th era Sheo is the Hero of Kvatch. The Nerevarine is also most likely alive, hope we can see or hear about both the protagonists in elder scrolls 6
Whoever was prayed to that made this video (and especially the bit at the end) happened be praised. My entrance to the Elder Scrolls games was Oblivion on the Xbox 360, with Oblivion AND the DLC included all in one sexy little package. I fell in love with the game, ad then the stories of the lore and the games. Sheogorath was a huge shock to my system when I first met him and played through the Shivering Isles, and I think it changed me forever? Just cuz I didn't know games could be so... wild. It's hard to explain, and that doesn't exactly do it justice. It's been a HOT minute since then of course, so that's probably why. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really loved this video, like every one previous on this channel. Quality content, informative and engaging, interesting and funny, you've got it all here dude. I'm just her to like and comment and share and shout from the mountain tops that you deserve all the best. More subscribers, more love. All of it. Excellent job as always
I think jyggalag was stuck in a paradox, the cycle became a new order, something that must continue, the way things are now and seemingly would be forever, he was curesed to loop the cycle forever now due to his nature. Whereas sheogorath being chaotic is able to break the cycle due to his nature being disrupting the natural order of things. It's a sort of cruel irony for both of his forms. The truest form of toruture the other princes could bestow no matter what he does he is going against his true goal.
I know this video is 8 months old but I kinda feel like sheo…is at least (in a small way) good at heart. I know it doesn’t seem that way but the speech he gives in the shivering isles DLC just before he transforms reads to me that it isn’t just the fact that his realm will change. It reads like he cares about his subjects. When he invented music, it was because he took joy in listening to the birds chirp, when the people called upon him when the king basically removed chaos from his kingdom: he brought joy back to the people of said kingdom using madness. Hell in a way, he actually gave the wizard a form of knowledge by showing him that madness lies within us all. I feel like he understands that madness and joy can be one and the same. He also seems to understand that joy is best shared with people. In a weird way, he seems to want to make people happy (which usually involves driving them mad). I might be reading too deep into this but it really does seem like on some level, his intentions are slightly good. I believe that in his own mind, he isn’t just trying to entertain himself: he’s trying to spread “joy” to the people of Tamriel. In his mind, joy and madness are one and the same.
An insurance company sponsoring a video about the Daedric prince of madness is the juxtaposition that Sheogorath would've delighted in. Another excellent video Ghostcharm!
A theory that I’m a fan of is that Jyggalag was always the daedric prince of madness. As in he was the daedric prince of order and madness while Sheogorath is the daedric prince of chaos and madness after all Jyggalag in his very nature never tried anything different hence why the greymarch always resulted in him becoming Sheogorath again because he does the same thing over and over expecting a different result which is the very essence of madness. It was only through Sheogorath’s actions of bringing someone in to protect his home instead of waiting around for something different to happen that the two separated
As I was listening, it reminded me deeply of the 2 aspects of the god Saturn. Sequence (represented here by Jygalagg), and opportunity (represented here by Sheogorath).
It’s pretty cool that the Daedric Prince of Madness is chaotic to the very core. Since the current one not only isn’t the original Daedra, but a random mortal who just gave themself the position.
This video was great, I remember my first playthrough of the Shivering Isles, seeing the hints that not all was as it seemed with the prince, pun absolutely intended 😂 and being fully blown away when I discovered that he and Jyggalag were one and the same. It made so much sense, but was still a slick subversion of my expectations. The portrayal of the citizens of Mania and Dementia contrasted marvelously and I found it fascinating to explore that while Mania was definitely the more outwardly pleasant experience, Dementia actually seemed more inviting and genuine. The people there were absolutely bleak and depressed, but on a whole, they were welcoming and forgiving, while the citizens of Mania were harsh and ruthless, thinking of nothing that did not further their own brand of madness. I ended up siding with Dementia because I figured that the citizens there deserved to be free of the duchess' paranoia and cruelty. I really enjoyed the portrayal of the Golden Saints and Dark Seducers, you imagine the "dark side" to be the ungrateful, demeaning, brutal side, but the Seducers treat you with respect and curtesy, while the Saints belittle you, speak brusquely and are dismissive of your accomplishments and taunt you for your failures. I love the build up of the finale. Sheogorath literally tells you that you'll become him, but everything you know about him and everything you've experienced up to that point says not to believe him. He doesn't usually lie, but he never tells the truth. I'll become him... will he take me over? Will I become a citizen of the Shivering Isles, in essence a part of him as his realm is a reflection of him and it's inhabitants are conduits for his will and being? Will he give me his power so that I'm attacked by Jyggalag and he can escape? I never thought for a moment that I would actually become the mad god, in essence and in form, but then at the end, Jyggalag names you to be Sheogorath, and wishes you well with your realm, then buggers off to wherever Daedra go when they're not mucking about on the mortal plane or invading one of their fellow princes' domains. It was so interesting to have the rug ripped out from under me not by some random, unpredictable twist, but rather by having things play out exactly as planned. Sheogorath's last act as the prince of madness, was to succeed in an elaborate plan that required forethought, planning and preparation, his plan required order. He became Jyggalag before the Grey March even started, he organized, planned and executed, something the prince of madness should not have been able to do. He brought order into his world so that he could save it from being destroyed by that same order. Just an all around great character and great DLC experience. I'd love to see a video about Arcturus Mengsk, the emperor of Starcraft's human faction. I think he has enough lore and subtlety to fit your style of video and I really enjoy the storytelling and lore of the Starcraft universe so it would be great to get your take on his character.

I love the whole story with Jigalag and Sheogorath. I like to think that Jigalag always existed within Sheogorath, like Carolin in Glados only influencing a bit more stuff. infact i always thought that the whole plot line to make you the new Sheogorath and break the cycle thus freeing Jigalag in the prosess was from the beginning Jigalag subtly plotting his return. i also like the idea that Jigalag was always the madness god. Like in the show Reboot with Megabite and Hexadecimal both were rather powerful but Megabite was the one who was far more dagerous because he had more focus and a actual longterm plan rather than his sister who was just chaoticly doing what ever she felt like. I think the same analogy can apply to Sheogorath and Jigalag both ultamitly the same threat but one was much more focused those making them the bigger threat.
You know, if you actually sent Sheogorath a notice that he was being sued, he might very well show up to court and play along for a bit just because hed think its funny
On Sheogorath in Morrowind, I remember some theory explaining that it makes more sense if it's Haskill pretending to be Sheogorath at this time in history. Just so no one notices that he's absent at the time.
Even the normal quest in Oblivion is remarkable, because of one line that I will allways remember, spoken by one of the mad followers at HIS shrine. "I used to think I'm a dog. But I got better. Not a better dog, of course. I'm a terrible dog now."
Jyggalagg both knew he would be cursed AND that he would eventually be set free. He was still the daedric price of order, but that in and if itself is madness against nature. Sheogorath was the daedric price of madness, which is the natural order. In more ways than one, they are two sides of the same coin.
Sheogorath is just the personification of how every player really is like. I don't mean this because even you become Sheo in Oblivion, but because of his overall mannerisms. He's extremely bipolar, like, it's obvious, but he does have a sense of endearment towards his things, the people, his palace, all of the Shivering Isles, he has an appreciation for it all, but he does rule with a fist of thorny brambles. And he is manipulative, and he does do things solely for his own gain. But looking back on all Bethesda type games . . . aren't we no different? One moment we're courteous, even generous, next moment we find that one NPC that just really gets under our skin, we want to do the most unspeakably violent things to their naked corpse, and next thing you know you've slaughtered all the guards in the town too. Yeah, no wonder the guy thought we'd all be perfect placeholders on his throne.
I actually really liked the Skooma Cat Quests in ESO. When you pay attention, Sheogorath tries to make you eat chease all the time. In all games exept Skyrim and even the Mage Guild Quests in ESO. And at the end of the Skooma Cat Quests, he managed you to do this in a really unexpected way xD
Wes is an absolute treasure and too good for this industry. His absence from ESO is just another bulletpoint in a long list of reasons why that game sucks and has no soul.
thematically i always saw jyggalag/sheogorath as kind of being a mirror for the concept of entropy, on the case to case entropy is usually seen as smth that introduces chaoticness to otherwise perfect energy transfers, but in the larger picture this entropy is slowly equalling out all energies in the universe. This idea of jyggalag as representing heat death could also be why i believe he is so powerful/feared
beat Zelda TOTK recently. kept wondering what the game was missing. kept wondering why nothing i did felt like it mattered. i've been reminiscing about Skyrim recently, and how cool and meaningful so many things felt. now i watched this video, and it all became clear. The presentation, the inspiration, the absolute insanity and chaos and grandiosity of everything. This game, and the Elder Scrolls series as a whole I presume, really makes you FEEL important. the presentation is just so god damn solid and immersive. that's something all the other open world games I've seen just can't recreate.
Sheogorath's origin as being the Prince of Order is actually quite beautiful. All of his "madness" afterall has an order to it, a method if you will. You can also look at it as, especially within the context of Oblivion's Shivering Isles, Order gives birth to Madness. In this way, Madness is defined, made sure. Given a silhouette. And in our journey so far, it seems Madness gained the upper hand, perhaps upending Order forever, but I say it's the opposite. Given form, Madness can be contained and controlled. Jyggalag's order still remains inevitable, as it is uncaring in how much time has to pass for it to gain dominion over everything. It's actually somewhat dark. By taking up the mantle of Sheogorath and becoming a new, distinct Daedric Prince, we freed Jyggalag to resume his prior life. What is there now, to truly stand in his way? And what road bump will the other Daedra now try to afflict him with, to slow down the inevitable (After all they can't afflict him with Madness again)? How will he alter his calculations? Will he ever come to reclaim Dyus? I hope we see him again in Elder Scrolls VI, when we're old and grey ourselves.

So long as I kept you entertained, you’d have no reason to ACTUALLY kill me.”
And the two of them laugh and laugh, all the way back to the Shivering Isles, for only the truly mad could best the Mad God
Considering the fact that he's still around after Oblivions Shivering Isles dlc you might be right
only thing is tho that the new sheogorath isnt on the bad side of any of the daedra (with the exception of merunes dagon i guess) unlike jyggalag.
and if jyggalag realy can see the future hed know that the new sheogorath wouldnt just sit by and let him fuck up the mortal realm with his order.

About the mantling thing, my personal take is that when the Champion of Cyrodiil mantled Sheogorath, Sheogorath’s consciousness sort of ‘latched’ onto them. That might explain why Sheo’s voice acting and appearance is so close to his appearance in Oblivion

I think the two split sides of The Shivering Isles symbolize the two sides of Sheogorath, Mania is his new "form" and mindset thriving in insanity and Dementia is him forgetting his organized past when he was Jygalag.
Possibly.
But it's more likely to be the duality of the fury of madness and the glee of madness.

Less a sign of respect and just because they are now Sheogorath, that is one of the forms Sheogorath likes to appear as.
To me jiggalag represents entropy in the elder scrolls universe
His grand order would essentially be the death of the universe.
In both situations order is achieved, the chaos of the universe coming to an end, but life can't exist in a universe without chaos to drive it forward
i was also reminded of the heat death when thinking about jygg, good stuff
That cameo with Uncle Sheo at the end made my day ^_^ Thanks Wes, for all the fond deliciousness we have of cheese because of your legendary performance. Hope to see you soon in TES6!
I honestly think jygalag was always the prince of madness because maybe he only thought he knew his true purpose and was mad because even he did not truly achieve true order if you really look into it

I've long believed that Jyggalag will return as the Elder Scrolls equivalent of "the last, final boss" for the franchise as a whole.
For order is the true end to the world of wonders and hope, there will never be fear or bravery for all under the sun shall be one and eternal. Change will not come,
World will not end,
History will not be written,
Laws will not be changed.
For extra effect read it with his voice(both would be interesting).
*’YOU CANNOT DEFEAT ME!’*
- bonk -
‘Aaaaiiii I give in please don’t hurt me!’ 😂
I remember playing the shivering isles dlc in oblivion and getting to a quest where Sheogorath wants me to summon Haskill, but for some reason when you do the game doesn't progress.
Azura lead the Nerevarine
Sheogorath the Hero of Kvatch / Champion Of Cyrodil
The Dragonborn with Hermaeus Mora
I noticed this alarming Trend the other day it seems that all of the protagonists from the Elder Scrolls games are heavily influenced by a Daedric prince...
Just killing it, bud❤🎉That part at the end warmed my heart. 😊Thank you so kindly, GhostCharm
1:05:38 Absolute awesome that Mr. Johnson can still do Sheo's voice and character.
Awesome little treat at the end!
Can't believe you managed to trick the mad-god himself into that- *impressive* work.
Hm. I like to think that the deal with Sheo in Skyrim is one of two things:
The Champion of Cydoril is still *mostly* sane, he just plays the character of Sheogorath to keep things going.
It always feels like I was given a cool gift when one of your videos drop
What a wonderful start to a Friday morning, always good to see you Ghost
11:20 as I understand the Daedra generally being more chaotic is only a coincidence because the only thing that defines them is that they didn't invest power into Mundus. I can imagine that most of them rejected Lorkhan's pitch because the mortal plane would be too restrictive for their taste, but I bet Jyggalag felt the opposite: that Mundus would be too messy and random compared to his own crystalline realm.
A video about Sheohorath thats sponcered by a law firm. That is unexpected, and as such, fits perfect
I would love an Elderscrolls game where Jigalag and Sheogorath helping the hero in their journey. Because after the events of the Shivering ilses dlc Jigalag technically turned into an Aedra.
Wes Johnson at the end? Absolutely legendary!
I think the Sheogorath we see in skyrim is the Hero of Kvatch since he bears a striking resemblance to the standard character model for the hero that you see when making a character plus he speaks about events that the hero was present for
He is
Sheogorath, Majima Goro, Handsome Jack, Joker, Tyler Durden, Palawa Joko.
It's not about the insanity, it's about the charisma. Crazy and likable are often corelative.
Fictional crazy is fun
Regarding Jyggalag’s status as a Daedra: Aedra and Daedra are separated by whether they assisted in the creation of Mundus, yes? So the title has no bearing on their morality. Jyggalag can perform good and bad deeds based on their obsession for control, it doesn’t make them Aedra.
Coming home to watch this after my radiation, with the cancer in my right frontal lobe-the part that governs emotion.
This video is great, and it comes as delicious irony.
Fuckin A man, good stuff
kick that cancer ass buddy. love ya
@Ghostcharm thank you man. Keep enjoying your efforts, the sheer heart shines in all of them.
I think the Nerevarine actually shows up in Skyrim and speaks to your character.
I think the best way to sum up Sheogorath is that Sheogorath is Sheogorath and does whatever random stuff pops into Sheogorath's head
I love your narration style. Very evocative but conversational and easy to listen to.
Oh my, that ending was amazing! Congrats man, always making great content!
An insurance company sponsoring a video about the Daedric prince of madness is the juxtaposition that Sheogorath would've delighted in. Another excellent video Ghostcharm!
Am I mad for wishing this was longer?! Yes, yes I am.
Love the videos you put out, as always Ghostcharm!
Also really love Wes Johnson at the end, such a great guy!
I’m so excited I could cry. Another beautiful ghostcharm video. God, this man’s voice is so amazing.
So many video essayist TH-camrs out there who just have awful reading voices/tones/cadences. Ghost truly is a blessing in the sphere. Him and Boulder Punch are the only 2 I can enjoy anymore. This channel really is an absolute gem and seeing it thrive makes me so happy. He had such quality and depth off the bat and has only improved from there. Insane.
Do you ever make a sub par video?? Amazing so far as always! Thank you GhostCharm you’re killing it!!
Yeah, this one
Even the normal quest in Oblivion is remarkable, because of one line that I will allways remember, spoken by one of the mad followers at HIS shrine.
"I used to think I'm a dog. But I got better. Not a better dog, of course. I'm a terrible dog now."
He's just a silly little guy
Jyggalagg both knew he would be cursed AND that he would eventually be set free. He was still the daedric price of order, but that in and if itself is madness against nature. Sheogorath was the daedric price of madness, which is the natural order. In more ways than one, they are two sides of the same coin.
Jyggalag the god of OCD and hyper fixation
Oh the Wes Johnson cameo at the end was such a Treat!
Literally exactly what I needed
How on earth did you get a morgan and morgan sponsorship?
I’ll always say that Elder Scrolls is the only fantasy lore that comes close to rivalling Tolkiens in terms of volume.
