I've heard many others play this melody, but Heifetz is truly exceptional. When he plays it sounds so natural, so well prepared, perfect timing... really amazing. My favorite so far
That Heifetz Vibrato (as an example from 1:13 to 1:48) -- it's something unique -- he could convey a virtually infinite variety of colours, tones and emotions with it. And his bowing.... -- He had every gift a violinist could dream of. The depth of musicality that Jascha the master brings to Caprice 24 is unparalleled. And he does it with such effortless ease !
Im only played violin for two month but i've seen A LOT paganini played in youtube. What i can say from my beginner ears and eyes is this one different..IT'S THE BEST!
Actually, it never goes out of tune once. I have perfect pitch so I would know. Heifetz isn't overrated, he was the greatest violinist of the 20th century in terms of technique, and there is no violinist alive today that can match his technique. I don't know what your deal is, but his intonation perfect. Trust me, my perfect pitch doesn't lie. i can hear professional orchestras miss just one sixteenth note in the tiniest passages but there is not one out of tune note in this recording
This recording appears to be from the 1940's. The pianist is Emanuel Bay. Heifetz's technique is excellent, as usual, and the tone is impeccable, if a bit too overstated in places (which was typical for him).
I like his playing of this the best. All the rest I have heard like Primrose or any of the modern day try to contain the piece in a certain way. Where this guy Heifetz really lets the piece itself have life.
Well, I have to agree with you poghospetrosyan. You can't say one great violinist is better than another simply because you like their interpretation of the song more. It is indeed their own style.
Timing between the legato and the bow strokes in between it reminds me of Jeff Loomis's legato. You can see what i mean, look up on youtube, "Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick Duel" He picks in between the legato runs. All to get the string to start buzzing, the rest are hammers ons and pull offs. My hats off to anyone with this Violin players ability. Its Amazing and Jaw Dropping. (oober is OOOOOO-Bur, as Uber is UH-Bur, same thing just a different way to say it ^^)lol -Shredd
Actually, Paganini, the composer of this piece was also a guitarist and wrote almost equally impressive things for that instrument. Look them up sometime.
Its funny to see arguments about Heifetz pitch. His subtlties and bowing arm are best ever recorded. His equivalent is Horowitz on the piano and Casals on the cello.
You spelled Uberly wrong, but I agree with you ^_^ Legato isn't as hard for a lot of players as his crazy flying upbow staccato in variation 1 but it's still trancendental.
This is a live recording, a rare thing these days. If we're to compare like with like, we have to hear it live. You bet Jascha Heifetz would have nailed all of those notes in a modern studio. Targaa please don't forget Menuhin's first Elgar concerto (1931).
I've heard many others play this melody, but Heifetz is truly exceptional. When he plays it sounds so natural, so well prepared, perfect timing... really amazing. My favorite so far

This is my favorite paganini. This is my favorite violinist. This is my favorite paganini violinist video. ^^
Que espetáculo!
Grande violonista!
Um dos melhores!
👏👏👏👏👏
The left-handed pizzicato two thirds of the way down the track... it's exceptional...
it is tender as a baby's head yet ferocious as a lion's roar.
Im only played violin for two month but i've seen A LOT paganini played in youtube. What i can say from my beginner ears and eyes is this one different..IT'S THE BEST!
Incredible... that's wonderful and perfect music.
It's the greatest playing the greatest in a way. Heifetz and Paganini. Virtuosi.
Did I just watch a violinist use pull offs like he was Eddie Van Halen? Goodness, this was something truly special to behold

Well, I have to agree with you poghospetrosyan.
You can't say one great violinist is better than another simply because you like their interpretation of the song more. It is indeed their own style.
What can I just say is fantastic and paganini, you are one of the famous artist in lesson named classic
beautty..this is a TRUE MUSIC, the human capacity used in your totality...thanks for the vídeo!!
18 dislikes? How can one dislike hearing perfection in both a piece of music and how it is played?

oh!! AMAZING thats the best violinist that I saw ever!! I love the paganini music; is the best!!!
Quanta perfeição! uau...
This is just so good! It's not the original though... But still so so so so good!
A genius who changed the entire conception of electric guitar --Jimi Hendrix, blessed be his name.
Its funny to see arguments about Heifetz pitch. His subtlties and bowing arm are best ever recorded. His equivalent is Horowitz on the piano and Casals on the cello.
His staccato is crazy good!
Beyond Crazy Good @.@
and his legato is just as Sickening(Means its amazing ooberly good)
Simplemente MARAVILLOSO
the last part ( 4:58 onwards) is insane. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Paganini.
this man is awesome just like itzhak perlam if you enjoied heifetz (amazing violinist) you will love perlman
The caprices were originally written for solo violin without accompaniment. This particular piano part was written by Schumann I'm pretty sure.
Simplemente fantastico!!!! Thank-you for this video.
have no words.. awesome!!
my god!
heavy metal violin style
You spelled Uberly wrong, but I agree with you ^_^ Legato isn't as hard for a lot of players as his crazy flying upbow staccato in variation 1 but it's still trancendental.

Targaa please don't forget Menuhin's first Elgar concerto (1931).
He did nail all those notes.
I wouldn't exactly say "best of all time." PAGANINI himself was the best violinist of all time!
lo mejor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if paganini would have seen this he would be like '' shit... these guys are locked up in the other side of that window!
In the beginning all the "Paganini Caprices" were called "Violin Rape NR.1, Violin rape NR.2, ecc..." but after some year the name changed.
Thats some talent :O
flipping awesome
My god he's like the Dimebag of Classical
bravo heifetz
