So much fun in one box! Thanks for showing your fun patterns with us. I think it would be great to have a traveling pattern box! That is an awesome idea.
What a fabulous collection of vintage patterns! When I was a young girl learning to sew, the price of patterns was between 25 & 50 cents and I remember being flabbergasted when prices rose to between 75 cents and $1.00. Love the idea of the pattern box.
I have always enjoyed looking at patterns. One time this fabric store was going out of business & I was in the basement looking at the boxes of patterns. They had almost locked me in the store. Luckily one of sales person had come down to make sure the basement was empty and there I was looking at patterns. She had told me they had almost locked me in. It's Amazon how much patterns cost back then. I have several that cost 25 cents. Enjoy sewing and have a nice weekend to come.
Wowsers!! That's a lot of patterns, and there are some beauties in there. I may have had to pause the video and take a photo of McCall's 7286 on my phone... The chevron dress on the left with the little collar is all kinds of fabulous! Lynne
I was a little shocked by how many I had......then I realised that the rest of my pattern stash is WAY worse than this .....ooops! Mum was rather taken with McCall's 7286 too :) making this video has definitely inspired me to have a go at recreating some of these! :)
Really enjoyed seeing your collection. I love vintage patterns! Advance patterns were sold exclusively at J. C. Penney. Susie Stephens patterns were sold by Butterick in the 1950's. The patterns were designed by design students of Stephens College in Missouri.
I love your videos and your ramblings! The patterns remind me of my Mum, and the there was a Butteric pattern I am sure she made for me in the 1960s! xxx
I adore 50's style dresses and right now I'm putting the finishing touches on one I started more than 5 years ago that I buried in my "mm... not sure about" basket. With a few minor changes I now LOVE the dress and will wear it today. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about all the variations I could do with this pattern. ( Butterick Retro 5813. It has the nipped in waist and voluminous skirt that would look gorgeous on you.)
Greetings from Boston Love this video. You look much happier today. It is great to see you smiling again. I look forward to seeing your next video. They make me smile Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration to all. 👍
I,absolutely, loved this.I have a lot of vintage patterns that I just like to look at and imagine the history. The sizes are incredible but in the 70's the sizes were tiny compared with today. How would the pattern box work,it sounds intriguing.i could listen to you all day, especially as I know, from your makes, you have the expertise to make them.
I'm thinking the pattern box would be an assortment of my patterns that I won't use and it'd be a giveaway open to anyone as long as they have an active blog, vlog or instagram account so they could host a giveaway of their own. If you win I send you the box you pick a couple of patterns you like and add some of your own that don't work for you then host your own giveaway and send the box on. The only rule would be that you'd have to be happy to send worldwide if you enter someones giveaway in a different country from you.
Thank you for sharing your amazing vintage patterns, I wish I had the body/skills to use patterns like these. When you mentioned the 29 inch bust, I inadvertently glanced down to my G cup chest and raised my eyebrows! :) :) I love the gown you made, you should definitely wear it more, and dusty hems be damned! Xx
Thank you Jo I'm glad you enjoyed having a look through my vintage stash :) The sizing is ridiculous but it makes me think that maybe it's the tiny patterns that have survived because they didn't get much use as "regular" sized ones?? Just a guess :)
You have some patterns that I just love McCalls 4428 - 3686, then you have Butterick 6163 - 7126 these are the ones that stood out to me. All of the patterns are wonderful. I remember my grandmother having a few of them. They would order the patterns out of the news paper, where to ads were printed, for about 25 cents. Those are the ones with no company name. I was very young playing in her stuff. Well it was a nice video and I enjoyed it very much, thanks for taking me back to my childhood. Thank you for sharing. Have fun sewing, later.
Ohhhh so many pretty patterns!! 💗💗💗I love the long mermaid fabric dress!! Yeah once upon a time I had a 24" waist too! 🤣🤣You will have many yards of full skirt dresses in your future, I bet!! That Butterick 6163 is one of my favs!
It's actually a mermaid housecoat ;) I went super fancy for my lounging needs! I'm starting to worry about where all my full skirted dresses are going to live! ;) x
You have some gorgeous patterns! Definitely fell in love with a few. If you do do the box pattern swap, I'm so in! My Aunt let me go through her vintage pattern stash years ago, but only one of the suits my style now =/ Can't wait to see the next video :)
Thank you Christine, I think I will do the pattern box swap at the end of this series of videos I have a feeling there will be quite a few to put in there ;)
Nice collection of patterns.....side note....Nancy Zieman's Fitting Finesse is a book that shows us how she uses the pivot and slide method to enlarge or decrease patterns to fit us. I ordered the older book as it was cheaper, but I believe the newer version includes a dvd if you are interested. Good Luck with all of your patterns.
What a nice collection you have. there were a few I really liked. We can vote on the one from your top 5 that you should next from your vintage stash 😁.
Haya. Fantastic pattern collection, lurrrrve Vintage patterns. Great idea about the pattern boxes. Also maybe put a few in some frames as wall hangings. Your hair looks great in gentle ringlets. You mentioned in a below comment about a closet clear out, have you ever thought of selling & or swapping some of your clothes? It is great fun, I maybe doing something like that & getting a bunch of people involved & at same time raise a bit of money for animal shelters ect . . . Thank you for sharing. XX
Hi Anna :) I love the idea of framing some of the pattern envelopes but I have no wall space to hang them at the moment :/ I used to love having Swishing parties a few years ago, I found that it was better to do it with a large group of friends rather than one of the big organised events as that just turned in to a free for all which was awful! I'll have to start having a think about how to set one up down here as I really did enjoy it, great idea thank you for reminding me! xx
So many fabulous patterns! I think I need to do a series of videos like this, too - I've been given some amazing bundles of old patterns and it's so much fun to share them with people who appreciate their amazingness. The travelling pattern box sounds like a fab idea. Quite a few of the patterns I have are ones I love but would never make and I'd be happy if they ended up going to someone who could love them AND make something from them, rather than just sending them to a charity shop. Let us know if you're going to do it - I think you'd have a heap of support. :)
You do indeed :) I think I will be doing the travelling pattern box idea, after I've filmed all my stash so I can work out which patterns I'll be adding to it! :)
I am gushing over your collection. Over the last couple of years I have amassed quite a vintage collection myself. My heart skipped a beat and I gasped when I saw McCalls 9698, 3686 with the portrait collar and Butterick 6163. I will be stalking ETSY and Ebay. The last half of the year I am committed to making more dresses from the 1950s & 60s ( full skirts). I also have 4759. I liked it so much when I saw it on Etsy that I didn't pay attention to it being a size 11 (eek) and I need at least a 14 to squeeze into. I unfortunately don't know how to grade my patterns. But someone shared a video but stupid me didn't save it. ugh. Back in the day some newspapers distributed patterns. I recently acquired a jumpsuit pattern with similar drawings as the printed pattern 4874. It was distributed by Newsday, a New York newspaper. It is a size 12 maybe too small for me unless I learn to grade but I love that style (work appropriate) I would gladly take it off your hands. 💞 BTW I finally subscribed. I like you. Can't wait to see your big 4 collection.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and I'm filing the next instalment today :) There are so many vintage patterns that I eye up on Etsy and eBay but I have to restrain myself as you can see I already have far too many!! :)
I've made the re-pro pattern of the Vogue S-4544 for Homecoming, it a grey satin it was a smash, everyone loved it. It was perfect for the Old Hollywood theme that year.
Great collection, so lovely to look at even if they don't fit. I collect70's 80's 90's Kwik Sew patterns. I remember my Mum getting patterns like that last one with no name ,they came from Womens magazines and you sent off for them.
What a fabulous collection! I read somewhere that, when looking to buy vintage patterns, that you should go with patterns whose bust measurement matches your high bust (as opposed to full bust), is this true? (I suppose it doesn't matter as long as you get close...or just want them for the artwork...or are a genius at grading & drafting...LOL) And yes, the tidbits of history! That is one of the many reasons I love buying second-hand books. You can find the most amazing (or confusing) things inside.
I've heard that too and I think I can use quite a lot of these as starting points if not straight out of the packet! I'm hoping to use them as inspiration for when I finally draft my bodice sloper sometime soon ..... when I have time ;)
Hi, Sian! Those are super gorgeous patterns! What a collection. I have bought one vintage (60's) pattern off Ebay and I have yet to try it. Scared to ruin it. By the way, do you have a link as to where you got the pretty boxes for your patterns please? Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Just trace your 60's pattern and that way you don't have to worry about ruining it! I got the storage box from WH Smiths :) x
Wow so many patterns! I enjoyed watching the video. So what do you do with all the dresses you make for yourself? You must have so many by now. Where do you store them and do you wear them all the time? Thanks!
Thank you Esther. I have about 4 metres of wardrobe which are getting pretty full right now! I'm planning on a clear out because there is still a lot of ready to wear in there that I haven't touched for years! I do wear everything I make mostly there have been a few duds over the years and I generally donate them to the local charity shop :)
I’m really getting into vintage fashion and sewing to help with my drag. I wanna learn to sew like a pro since my drag style isn’t really “off the rack”
That one is VERY high on my list I'm trying to think what fabric I want to use at the moment. It was so fun making this video as I was getting ideas all the time for new things to make......now I just need the time! ;)
could a pencil skirt be more comfortable if the sides were not taken in as much going down or if you add a kick pleat to the back to allow for extra room to walk??? and of course i am asking as a guy who doesnt wear skirts so really curious and not trying to be an asshole and mansplain lol
LOL! that did not come across as mansplaining at all but thank you for saying it :) I think that probably be would be more comfortable but as my hips are big I think it would make me look wide if there was no shaping below them. I might be tempted to play around with pencil skirts though as I did buy the Craftsy skirt sloper class so who knows! :)
So much fun in one box! Thanks for showing your fun patterns with us. I think it would be great to have a traveling pattern box! That is an awesome idea.
Thank you for watching Shirette :) I'll definitely be doing the travelling pattern box when I've filmed all of my pattern stash videos :)

I'm a sucker for pretty stationary ;) x

LOL Linda I would have totally been down in the basement with you ;) x
I loved this video so much. Those patterns are so cool. I love the artwork. Can't wait for your next video.
Thank you Louise :)

I'm just in love with those descriptions!
Aren't they brilliant!! They need to start writing them like that again!

I just bought that pattern!! Great minds think alike clearly ;)
Greetings from Boston
Love this video. You look much happier today. It is great to see you smiling again.
I look forward to seeing your next video. They make me smile
Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration to all. 👍

Thank you Sinead :) x
Fabulous collection of patterns, I love the idea of the pattern box swap.
Thank you Julia, I will definitely be putting the Travelling Pattern Box together once I've filmed all my stash! ;)
Wow, marathon, I couldn't stop watching though. I did have an interval, but I loved it.
Thank you Marilyn.....I have a feeling that this might be the shortest one! ;)

I particularly like those ones too :) I love that newspaper would have patterns advertised like that! I'm glad you enjoyed the video xx

I love that idea!! I'll have to put something together for later on this year , thank you for the inspiration :) x
Kittenish Behaviour Awesome!
Absolutely awesome collection of vintage pattens- thank you for sharing and wow what can I say about the sizing!!! Lol how can they be so tiny!!🤔
Thank you Bree and it amazes me how tiny everyone was! ;)

Great collection of patterns. Wouldn't it be great if patterns were still 50 cents.
It would be both awesome and horrifying........I would have ALL of the patterns and no room to move, sleep, work ;) x

I’m really getting into vintage fashion and sewing to help with my drag. I wanna learn to sew like a pro since my drag style isn’t really “off the rack”
Lovely patterns hun, i have a few but I'm so the wrong shape for vintage. your hair looks great today
Thank you Joe x
would love to see you make that woman W329 pattern looks soo pretty in the line drawing
That one is VERY high on my list I'm trying to think what fabric I want to use at the moment. It was so fun making this video as I was getting ideas all the time for new things to make......now I just need the time! ;)
If the patterns don't it you could always copy the pattern pieces onto craft paper and grade them up to your size.
That is the plan for some of them or to use the pattern pieces as guides for altering my sloper :)
I love your patterns!
Did you happen to have any links to the ebay sellers? Thank you!
Thank you :) unfortunately I couldn't find the eBay seller :( sorry
Please count me in with the pattern boxes!
Will do :)
Thanks
I love your collection. Can we see your closet and how you organize it?
Yes I have a wardrobe clearout and tour planned! It'll be another super long video I think though :)
YEAH!!! Can't wait!
I would love to do a pattern swap. I have a few things I would pop in there. X
Also you have me wanting to buy vintage patterns for a collection now.
LOL vintage patterns are dangerous.....start collecting at your peril 😉
I have been warned! X
could a pencil skirt be more comfortable if the sides were not taken in as much going down or if you add a kick pleat to the back to allow for extra room to walk??? and of course i am asking as a guy who doesnt wear skirts so really curious and not trying to be an asshole and mansplain lol
