    I refer back to this video often - just as a reminder that fewer points actually amount to a more precise vector drawing. Thanks for sharing ❤

    I wasn't going to watch this at first because I've watched several tutorials like this, but I'm glad I did because I've never seen anyone mark points in their drawings like that before scanning it and I've never seen people go past a point like you explain at 4:49. Well worth the watch! Thanks for sharing!

    Best video I've watched on this process. Very clear instructions. I especially liked the "trick" to cross over the path to make the acute angle.

      @IanBarnard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found it useful. That trick really helps when you have to adjust the curve. Saves so much time!

    Thanks Ian. Another great tutorial. This was hard to learn when I started to use vector programs with my lettering designs. You have explained really well how to do this task. Added to my favs!

      Thanks Abelardo, I had to learn it the hard way and glad I'm able to simplify it for others.

    Fantastic! Thank you so very much for taking the time to film this. It proves that you can't just have used the pen tool once and expect to be an expert; that thing is a pain! I'd better earn my stripes and start practising. You made it look so easy! :D

    Hey Ian thanks for sharing, really appreciate it! I really like your work and have been following you, I do have a question if you have a minute. So after doing the bezier curve, how do you export or save the image to highlight the anchor points and handlebars? Thank you so much!

    Thank you, Ian! That was really helpful. Looking forward to the next video on this!
    Is all of your professional client hand lettering work create this way? I create most of my hand lettering on the ipad and am wondering if that is good enough for final production or if it should be brought into illustrator and redrawn?
    Thanks again!

    Thanks for explaining clearly where to put the vector points. And using the align tool to line up points? Mind blown. :D I have so much to learn.

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Night Enlightened glad the pointers helped. Force yourself to spend time in illustrator, it's the only way that you get comfortable with those curves!

    thanks - learned a lot from that. I struggle to have the same settings on adobe illustrator as you... can you run through what windows are open and how you layout your screen? Still so much to learn!

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally just bring up windows I know I'm going to use for a certain project, though default ones would be Stroke, Transparency, Pathfinder, Swatches, Layers and Character.

    Awesome Ian! Thanks for the info. Btw, I couldn't help get distracted by your books 😅 which one's do you recommend for learning calligraphy and hand lettering?

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Calligraphy I used a Dummies Guide, which gave a great overviews to lots of different styles. For hand lettering the ABC of Custom Lettering by Ivan Castro is really good.

      Looking good. Maybe a little thinner at the top of the 'e', longer and smoother curve at the bottom of the 'l' and the h is slightly to wide. These are only minor tweaks though 👍

  • @AuroreMichaux
    @AuroreMichaux 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much for this! Can I ask how it's done with letters where the line is always the same width (is that monoline? I'm not sure in English)? If I do it the same way, I struggle a lot to keep the width even...

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you got the name right. Do you mean the width of the line or the width of the whole letter in relation to the other letters?

    • @AuroreMichaux
      @AuroreMichaux 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I'm talking about the width of the line.

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally make it using a stroked line / path to keep the width constant.

  • @MadeAnkaAsril

    Do the guideline angles change if the letters have a slant to them?

    • @IanBarnard
      @IanBarnard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever is easier for you. As long as the handles match each other on the horizontal and vertical.
