शिव जी की पत्नी का नाम सती था।जिनकी मृत्यु के पश्चात उनके वियोग में भगवान शिव ने सती माता के मृत शरीर को अपने सर पर रखकर तांडव किया था ।उसी वक्त माता सती के शरीर के 51 टुकड़े होकर धरती पर अलग अलग जगह गिरे थे । उन्ही को शक्तिपीठ के नाम से जाना जाता है ।और नैनीताल में माता सती की आँखें (नैन) गिरे थे ,इसीलिए यहां पर नैना देवी का मंदिर है और उसी वजह से इस जगह का नाम नैनीताल पड़ा ।🙏
