  • The 1960s was an era of distinct fashion, music, and culture, with television playing a central role in providing entertainment and escapism. While some shows from this time have remained popular, others have faded from modern audiences' collective memory. In this article, we explore a few forgotten gems of 60s TV, ranging from obscure comedies to short-lived sci-fi adventures.

The Ugliest Girl in Town was a controversial show with a tasteless premise that sparked widespread disdain. Its short run demonstrated its inability to resonate with viewers. Hogan's Heroes, a sitcom that deserves more attention, raised questions about its lighthearted portrayal of Nazis. Despite its controversy, it has largely been forgotten by modern audiences but can still be appreciated for its humor.
The Brothers Brannagan, a sitcom following sibling detectives, showcased early appearances from stars like Marion Ross and Burt Reynolds. The Jackie Gleason Show, initially successful, eventually faltered due to its reliance on superficial humor. The Flying Nun, remembered more for its absurd premise than its content, is a product of its time that wouldn't hold up today.
Miami Undercover, an action-driven crime series, featured the unique pairing of boxing legend Rocky Graziano and comedian Henny Youngman. Despite its star power, it failed to leave a lasting impression. Sea Hunt, starring Lloyd Bridges, established him as a leading man in Hollywood but has been largely forgotten by modern audiences.
In conclusion, the forgotten TV shows of the 60s remind us of the changing cultural and social landscape of that era. Though many of these shows have been lost to time, they offer a glimpse into the past and a reminder of how far we've come. While some may argue that these shows were simply products of their time and are no longer relevant, others may see value in revisiting these forgotten gems and finding new appreciation for their unique quirks and perspectives.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by Hogan's Heros and Jackie Gleason in this group. A little by the Flying Nun.
I was looking for a forgotten show about an Alaskan Goldminer that was frozen for a 100 years and reanimated in (at the time) modern times. 😂 Because I can't remember the name!

I think you may have confused The Jackie Gleason Show with the Honeymooners. The clips you showed was from the Honeymooners. The Jackie Gleason Show was a variety show. Interesting fact about The Honeymooners, there was program in the sixties modeled after The Honeymooners. That program: The Flintstones.

I'm shocked Sterling Holloway who was featured on The Baileys of Balboa didn't get a mention, but, then again, I think he'd been doing voicework for Disney long before. (Sterling was often the narrator in Disney productions, and he was the first person to bring Winnie the Pooh's voice to life)

I honestly do not know of any kid who grew up watching "Hogan's Hero's" who didnt absolutely love watching that show. Of course, being so young we were blissfully unaware of the context up until "Diary of Ann Frank" came into our stratosphere. Game over.

Not if u were there in the '60's like I was "Hogan's Hero's " is a classic & so is the "Jackie Gleason Show" & "My Favorite Martian" & "Mr. Ed" the talking horse. "The Munsters" etc.
I saw all these in prime time in the '60's as a kid. I even remember "It's About Time" about 2 astronauts landing in a prehistoric island of cave people & a T- Rex dinosaur. It only lasted one season it was like "Gilligans Island". The 1960's had the best TV shows.

Hogan's Heroes, The Flying Nun, The Jackie Gleason Show - all highly successful and well remembered. The Brothers Branigan, Sea Hunt, Miami Undercover - all not sitcoms and all syndicated rather than network shows. Rango- a midseason replacement that didn't last a full year. The Ugliest Girl in Town - a distasteful premise, you mean like the Academy Award winning film Tootsie. More Verse than Facts here.
