      @Johann Sebastian I would definitely say her interpretation is operatic, though. The song is a prayer as I understand it, but I guess if an opera singer sings it, it is given an operatic element his or her voice and style. If a rock star, or a hip hop artist, or a country artist interpreted it.....

Adiemus is a group of musicians from South Africa who don't sing actual words, but choose to sing the sounds that best fit their music. It's almost like being at the gates of Heaven. It's inspiring. The group is named Adiemus and the first song I would offer you has the same name. There are live choral performances that will give you chills based on my observations of your reaction videos. • @OlJackBurton

    I don't know how you fortuitously picked (or maybe it was suggested/requested) what is generally considered to be the most beautiful composition from one of the truly great composers (Schubert) of all time. Just a little background info: Schubert only lived for a little over 31 years (Mozart lived 35 years and Chopin lived 39 years, so many of these greatest composers were very short-lived) but he was extremely prolific and composed about 1500 known pieces/compositions, of which around 600 were songs or as they were called in their time, lieder, which were art songs or often poems set to music. Ave Maria is by far the most famous one and rightly so.
    You could live an entire lifetime and not find another piece of music like this one. Fortunately, Schubert was so prolific and a genius that he has several masterpieces including Serenade, his 8th Symphony (also known as the Unfinished Symphony since it only has 2 complete movements instead of the usual 4) and 4 impromptus (Opus 90), particularly the third one, for piano. Of course there are numerous others from him and other composers, but those are some of my personal favorites.
    I noticed you also reacted to pieces from Mozart and Beethoven who are also generally considered to be among the greatest composers of all time (2 of the big 3 or trinity). I do also recommend the aforementioned Chopin as well as Bach who was born over 70 years before any of these others (1685) and is considered by many (or so called experts and scholars) to be the GOAT, although that is an argument that will never be resolved.

    • @OlJackBurton
      @OlJackBurton 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe the vocalist/singer on this recording is Barbara Bonney. It says so on the description. The picture (there's no actual video, only audio) in the cut out of the reaction is from the the same "video" for Ave Maria that has 67 some million views, or the most viewed Ave Maria video on TH-cam.
      Strangely, in the description for this reaction, the link goes to a different video with a different more generic picture (again no video, just audio, as most of these classical pieces don't have video unless they're recording video of the actual performers), but the same singer and track, one with much less views, 80 some thousand. Maybe less copyright restrictions? Although with classical music, you don't really get people all vigilant about using "their work" or performances/interpretations (basically covers) of work that is no longer and often was never copyrighted.

      More correct to say a soprano sings this. They may well also sing opera, but that is somewhat beside the point. People always made the mistake of saying that Luciano Pavarotti was an "opera singer". He wasn't. He was a tenor. OK, so he mostly sang in operas. But he also sang (and recorded) other choral works such as oratorios. Am I being pedantic? I'm sure some would say so. But I think you'd have to agree if you think about it.

    Classical music which does include much opera, reigned for HUNDREDS of years. Hundreds. Rock n Roll is less than 70 years old. Jazz and Blues maybe 100-130? Hip Hop, what 20-30 years?
    Good music is simply timeless. Good music is good music......period.

      Actually the lyrics to Ave Maria are not the same as the Hail Mary prayer, but this:
      [English Translation]
      Ave Maria! Maiden mild!
      Listen to a maiden's prayer!
      Thou canst hear though from the wild;
      Thou canst save amid despair.
      Safe may we sleep beneath thy care,
      Though banish'd, outcast and reviled -
      Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer;
      Mother, hear a suppliant child!
      Ave Maria
      Ave Maria! undefiled!
      The flinty couch we now must share
      Shall seem this down of eider piled,
      If thy protection hover there.
      The murky cavern's heavy air
      Shall breathe of balm if thou hast smiled;
      Then, Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer,
      Mother, list a suppliant child!
      Ave Maria!
      Ave Maria! stainless styled.
      Foul demons of the earth and air,
      From this their wonted haunt exiled,
      Shall flee before thy presence fair.
      We bow us to our lot of care,
      Beneath thy guidance reconciled;
      Hear for a maid a maiden's prayer,
      And for a father hear a child!
      Ave Maria..

Its commonly heard at weddings and funerals, but also performed by many classical vocalists in recital and concert. Keep listening and expanding your musical palette! I would also recommend you listening to the Ave Maria by Bach-Gounod which is equally if not more beautiful than this version. Many blessings to you!

    Respect for opening your mind enough to listen to classical/opera music. Ave Maria means Hail Mary (mother of Christ). Listen to the Flower Duet from the opera Lakme by Leo Delibes, a beautiful intertwining of female voices. Also Luciano Pavarotti's version of Nessun Dorma is a must.

    Music like this is REALLY good for relaxing too. It helps your mind forget your troubles. Just lay back, close your eyes, and let your mind float on the notes. My husband and I used to play Gregorian chants, at night, when we went to bed. It's very mellow, and very calming. I'm really glad you could appreciate the beauty of this music, instead of just dismissing it, like so many would.

    So lovely to see someone encounter this for the first time. Good entry into ‘opera’ (technically, this is not opera but recitative). Opera is a drama performed on stage. This is church music. But it all falls under one over-arching umbrella, which is f-ing good singing! Ave is pronounced with two syllables Ah Vey. You might try choral music. Easy entry is one you almost certainly will recognise, which is the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah. I can see lots of excellent suggestions by others in the comments.

    • @openmusic3904

      I'd say it's more an aria than a recitative. A recitative typically involves a talking conversational style of singing. Not to nitpick lol

    Maybe you could give Maria Callas a listen: _Casta Diva_ or _O Mio Babbino Caro_ would be good choices. You could also try Luciano Pavarotti singing _Nessun Dorma,_ it's amazing.

As far as opera goes, might I suggest Luciano Pavarotti and some of his performances from the early to mid 1980’s when perhaps the greatest voice to ever grace the earth was in his peak... Nessun Dorma is his signature song, but pretty much anything he did from the classical cannon is without equal, imho. (With that being said I find his 1990’s foray into pop to be cringe-worthy)

    A suggestion: Maria Callas ("La Divina"), Un bel di vedremo ("One fine day we'll see") from Madame Butterfly by Puccini. th-cam.com/video/tmfw17L_Deo/w-d-xo.html
    Best if you know the story. Cio-Cio San is a Japanese woman who falls in love with an American sailor, Captain Pinkerton. He gives her the love-name Madame Butterfly and they have a son together. He has to go back out to sea, but he promises he'll be back and marry her. She waits, and waits .... In this aria, she fantasizes about what it will be like when he comes back, and tells her sidekick, "that's how it will happen, you'll see". Eventually he does come back - with his American wife, to take his son to America. She is heartbroken and kills herself.
    The aria is unforgettable, a real experience. And Callas is a GOAT.

    This is indeed classical like opera, but it is more of a religious hymn composed by a famous composer. The original language is Latin, and it was a direct Latin translation of the prayer to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.(UPDATE: this version is translated in German.) Recited in the Catholic faith, it is known as the Hail Mary. The words in English:
    Hail Mary, full of grace,
    The Lord is with thee;
    Blessed art thou among women,
    And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
    Holy Mary, Mother of God,
    Pray for us sinners,
    Now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

      @@Ashley-lm4nv No problem! German doesn't personally strike me as an aggressive language, though its edges may sound a bit sharper. Hey, our own language, English, while influenced by many different languages, is considered as having sprung from the Germanic language family!
