These 535D diesels have insane torque. very doubtful a 400bhp diesel has less torque than this.

Muussaah1992 nah man for me the f10 which Ricky got to drive was a beast I personally prefer the e60’s v10 due to that formula 1 sound but the f10 is just unprecedented in performance
Newer cars will always be unprecedented to a degree but as can be seen in this video the f10 can't match the characteristics of this car in any way shape or form. Most performance cars built pre 2010 were the best of the last.
E60 M5 is right up there with the top cars ever built esp being the fastest 4dr production car of its time

These are known for crappy smg gearboxes, con rods faults which is why they are expensive to maintain and need deep pockets. Props to the owner to pulling out the bucks to put a SC on it! Love seeing Ricky grinning when he gets in these cars lol I'm waiting for an E63 M6 to arrive in my garage :)

I don't know of a single gearbox failure in an SMGIII. That includes 700HP cars. It's most likely a clutch position sensor issue or an issue with the hydraulic pump.

MrSuperawesome5000 even the hydraulic pump rarely goes bad, the pump motor is what wears out because the brush dust accumulates inside the motor and shorts out the commutator
To be fair, the gearbox didn't fail. The geartrain on that Getrag transmission is extremely robust and can put up with a lot of abuse. What happened with the gearbox is a hydraulic unit or clutch problem. Most likely, it was failure of the PLCD sensor, slave cylinder, or the primary hydraulic directional flow solenoid valve. The bad sensor will cause issues with clutch engagement and the other two can cause hydraulic leak and will cause issues related to gear change continuity/sluggishness and clutch clamping force. Pretty nice gearbox when maintained, though.

if there was ever a vid on how important a good sounding car is this is it , always loved these cars , its why i cant stand 4 pots , fuel economy , reliability and the smg only im not so sure about but for the price these go for its a hell of a lot of car for the money , suck up the fuel costs and put a few k away incase of any heavy repair bills enjoy one for 6 months and then move onto the f10 m5 would be a nice way to go i reckon
So glad this car has been featured! this has to be my favourite car and has been for a few years now, the road presence is definitely there and that sound, you just cannot fault it. Admittedly the gearbox is old and is pretty much a manual box however having it throw you back into the seat like that is all part of the experience I suppose.. shame how the manual version was only brought out in North America (what were they thinking lol) - incredible car and as always a genuine presenter giving us the content we actually want to see!

Ping! A normal day in the life of m5 owner. Awesome build, hats off to the owner most would dream of doing this kind of work to their own. It really is an event every time you drive it.
Optimal settings on this imo m sport on, gearbox s6, suspension on normal/comfort. drive it on warm dry day for traction - phenomenal!

This is why BMW IS BMW an their slogans of past. shoot through to today in regards to the M badge. it just means another level full stop. Big respect to the owner though as alot of work gone into it just those lights themselves looking like new beemers, csl boot an vents just to style it out but subtly. Luke Jenkins the E60 M5 has a naturally aspirated F1 engine. Smae engine used in the Formula 1 cars they raced. That's why it sounds like one lol

Gearbox will be fine, SMG's were always temperamental, mine was the same. As long as no warning lights are on it will reset itself. Keep up the good work dude!
Did they ever adapt the new clutch via ISTA? This is a must whenever a clutch/flywheel replacement is done on an SMG E60 M5 or possibly the SMG pump? They have been known to warp pressure plates in stock form and with the power this guys running it could be a possibility. With the time and money he’s spent I have no doubt that he’s already found the issue 😎✊🏼Awesome car... 👌🏽🤔 I would love to see it run the quarter mile against Arthur’s Golf 😁👍🏽

Came back to this during the Corona Apocalypse. My 535xi stage 3 goes limp mode on kick down. Never happened on upshift. These cars need the drivetrain built and software to match the power.
