    2 pounds (0,907kg) weightloss/gain is not something you should care about, because you can fluctutate that much in a day.

      Another reason I doubt she even did the diet, because depleting muscle glycogen is typically more than 2lbs ESPECIALLY over a 30day period. Just my opinion though and what I've seen in 16 years in the health and fitness space.

      You’re right. I used to watch her when I was 16-17 while she was still raw vegan and I thought her life was perfect lol. I didn’t even realize how restrictive she really was. I hate thinking about girls who are even younger watching her, and taking her so called ‘journey’ as factual advice.

      Alaa Atari The Vegan Society's formal definition is: "veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose."
      Why would anyone not like that?

    • @HelenaBlack80
      @HelenaBlack80 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      xValetinax that’s not the discussion we’re having. For her the food she’s eating isn’t really important. She isn’t feeding her body she’s feeding an eating disorder, which is a mental health issue.

    • @MadisonM1
      @MadisonM1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +474

      Laura Vance this is understandably frustrating, but oftentimes those with eating disorders use veganism as a way to restrict. That’s unfair to the vegan community, but you have to understand that many leave being vegan because without veganism as an excuse they can’t restrict as much and therefore can heal. Yes, you can eat junk as a vegan, but you can ask many people and they’ll be honest that their eating disorder led them to veganism so they would be unbothered by social expectations to eat because things weren’t accommodated by their vegan diet. It’s disordered eating that happens to be with a vegan diet.

      @@MadisonM1 yes I absolutely understand that as I'm a recovered anorexic and food elimination was a huge part of what led me to that. Also you actually dont need any rules to lose weight so no point in following a diet like that if you only want weight loss(just maintain calorie deficit). A carnivore/paleo style diet is good for people wirh inflammatory conditions as many of the foods not eaten cause inflammation.

      What does balance mean to someone who can't consume many plant products, or any other restriction from other foods.
      If someone finds a style of eating that seems to work for their individual health and adhearance to sensible eating, does it matter that they cut out large food groups, provided the micro nutrient needs are being met ?

      A Dori Type Situation I think a true Carnivore should be eating nose to tail.
      The organs are important as they provide micro nutrient needs not present in high quantities in the muscle meat.
      Making a 30hr bone broth out of the bones, ligaments, skin, feet, head etc... is a great way to extract more nutrients.
      I'm not sure if a Carnivore eating this way will experience nutrient deficiencies.
      Is it a good way to eat long term ?.....I have no idea, nor am I interested in ever eating this way as I enjoy eating plants & animal foods.
      It will be interesting to see how these long term Carnivores are going in 10-20 years time.

      @@AbbeysKitchen Vitamin c and glucose competes for the same path-way, so cutting out carbs and sugar will reduce your need for vitamin c, that's why the eskimos and maasai people could survive, with good vitamin c levels despite eating only/mostly meat.
      I'm actually against the carnivore diet, you can survive doesn't mean its optimal Evolutionary we should also eat fruit we developed tri coloured vision and can taste sweetness unlike dogs and cats.
      Some carnivores dieters never eat plants because the idea is that animals don't want to the eaten so they can run whilst plants develop toxins because they can't run away, these common toxins found in plants include phytic acid, oxalates and lectins which can cause gut problems and is linked to autoimmune issues. Although this is true it doesn't mean that all plants are bad most hunter gatherers would eat more than 20 different types of medicinal plants and would know which ones would kill them and which will cure them from illness.
      It can get complicated if your northern european during the long cold winter months you would'nt find any fruits or vegetables you can only access fruit within a few months of the year, just eat what works for you, you can eat nightshades like tomatoes whilst in some people would cause there lupus symptoms to flare up. That why the people who follow the carnivore diet are getting such good results I recommend her to add in fruits and vegetable slowly to truly find out what she can tolerate.

I recovered from my eating disorder by going vegan and although I’m doing much better than I was a year ago, I still have a reason to restrict and it is very comforting. I’ve spoken to some of my friends and my therapist and they mentioned how relatable/common it was for other girls/guys as they slowly begin to transition into a healthier lifestyle.

    • @TheQueerTailor
      @TheQueerTailor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Exactly, ethical meat may be more ethical for animals then factory farming, but a HUGE part of the reason eating an excessive amount of animal products is unethical is not because of what it does to animals but what it does to the environment. I try to eat a fairly low animal product diet, but I do eat meat and even I can say that eating meat every day, or every meal is not ethical

    • @JacquelineUnderwood
      @JacquelineUnderwood 5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Leah Sauter totally agree. My best friend was vegan for a long time, and tried every b12 supplement out there, but just had really poor absorption with all of them (she’s anemic). Her doctor told her she CAN’T be vegan or vegetarian - she has to eat a small amount of red meat two times a week (because she can only handle so much at one time). Not everyone can do veganism or vegetarianism. I’m trying to be mostly vegan, but when I’m out, it’s just easier to not have everyone order different food for me. I live in china so we eat family style, and it seems more wasteful to have them order a dish made for tons of people that I won’t be able to finish on my own. We should definitely reduce meat consumption where possible, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to not be entirely vegetarian.

    • @SamanthaValentine13
      @SamanthaValentine13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      There is nothing ethical about meat. Period. If someone doesn’t want to die it doesn’t matter if they’re farmed in a factory or grass fed on Joe’s farm. I mean... eat meat if ya want and if you feel like it’s a healthier option for you but stop sugar coating it by saying it’s ethical.

After I transitioned to it not only my weight came to normal, I got so much energy and generally feel never better, especially mentally considering that I don't even have any cravings for junk food. It healed me so much in just a couple of months and of course I will continue with it. Now, I don't ever recommend it to others because I know that it sounds completely crazy and I know it's not for everyone. Price issue aside, factory farming is necessary to respond to the current demand. You can’t be against factory farming and promote a carnivore diet. There would be literally no way to have everyone on a carnivore diet and have it all be grass fed, organic, etc.

    I have been eating a carnivore diet for over a year now. I am 33 years old and am in the best shape of my life. I wake up every morning with so much energy and don’t need caffeine to keep me alert and focused during the day. My skin is so clear and never have to worry about break outs, my hair is healthier then ever, and I have managed to get control over my PCOS which has been an issue for me for quite some time.
    I feel like diet is unique to everyone and it’s important to find what works for you as an individual.

    As someone with a history of seizures and who used to take epilepsy meds for nearly 10 years, absolutely can confirm: never felt better in my entire life than when on a keto diet (which I tried when not on meds any more). My focus was razor sharp constantly, never had better quality sleep, overall super high energy levels. I now alternate moderately low carb, keto, and "normal" mediterranean style diet because keto requires too much planning for my busy schedule, is expensive and I really don't want to eat a lot of animal product for all the ethical and environmental reasons. But I can't deny how much worse I feel when my carbs are up. And I eat a pretty good quality diet at any carb level, so it's not like the junk food makes me feel bad when eating more carbs. It's honestly a miracle how much my cognition improves when I minimise carbs.

    As somebody who was on a balanced vegan diet with supplements for five years and had to go back to eating mostly animal sourced foods because of malnutrition, decreased immunity, and worsening of my Complex-PTSD symptoms, I have to disagree. Some people need to avoid carbohydrates and some don't. I can only tolerate one day of carbs out of the week otherwise I get horrible digestion, fatigue, get rashes, and etc.. So eating mostly meat, dairy, eggs, and fish has helped me a lot for the past year. I don't stop myself from having a treat, moderation is important still.

    I was kinda where she is at when i was severely eating disordered and exercise addicted. I lived on one salad without dressing and one chicken breast a day, while going to the gym 3-4 times/week for 3h each.
    Of course i felt "light" and "clear". I was barely eating, and i never got the chance to feel full and heavy after a meal (which can be a nice feeling). I thought i was being "healthy", according to my mother's "low carb diet" self hell books. When i couldn't afford to go the gym anymore, i gained back A LOT of weight. But i also felt a lot more "content"...? Not in a psychological sense, because i was flipping out over gaining weight, but my body felt more content.
    Today I'm about 10kg heavier but i eat what I want, i don't weigh myself anymore, i take walks with my dog and go to a martial arts gym when i have time and energy. I eat unhealthy things. I work out less than i maybe should. But I've come to truly feel at home in my body, and IDENTIFY with my body, for the first time since i started counting calories when I was 9(!) years old.
    Any form of restrictive eating CAN lead to an eating disorder and health problems, if you aren't very, very careful. If you have to restrict because of allergies or illness, ALWAYS check with an actual doctor to make sure it isn't getting out of hand. Be especially careful if you already struggle with mental illness like depression or personality disorders (bpd in my case).
    A skinny body with "abs" is not worth ruining your (mental) health over. No matter what any influencer says.

    Don’t have to worry about vitamin c. It competes with glucose in the body. So, when that is no longer present with the carnivore diet (yes vitamin c is in meat) “c” becomes a lot more potent in the body...therefore, scurvy won’t happen...especially if you aren’t a pirate drinking loads of alcohol which in turn translate to sugar in the body which would compete for “c” from the carnivore diet.

    I just wanted to note that many people on the Carnivore diet also follow OMAD, Intermittent Fasting or incorporate longer fasts each week (mainly because they don't have as much hunger as a diet utilizing carbs as their fuel source) so they aren't eating as much per day as you are estimating. Another fact is that many people don't eat 3 lbs of meat a day even if they aren't. The fat and protein in the meal will satiate you much longer than a carb based diet and so many people end up eating 1.5 lbs - 2 lbs per day, especially if they are not trying to build muscle. I have seen many people who have documented that their appetite is sometimes minimal and sometimes larger so the estimate is not really a fair representation of the diet.

    There were some good points here but really wished you'd maybe looked into the therapeutic role of this diet. So many people, myself included, have seen some improvements in chronic autoimmune conditions when eating a carnivore diet. I totally agree though that it can be a restrictive way of eating and not even that enjoyable unless you completely love the taste of meat day in day out. I don't do this all the time as I miss the meals my family consume but then I do relapse in my symptoms which all come back. I've heard that studies are being done now on the carnivore diet which will be released some time in the future and I'm curious to see what they show when meat consumption is studied outside of the confounding factor of a standard Western diet full of processed foods.

      When you eat your body's natural diet, it will begin to heal itself. Our bodies are made of animal protein, fats and cholesterol. Our digestive system is not made to handle large amounts of plants, we have a hard time extracting nutrients from plants because they are protected by indigestible fiber that sits and ferments in the gut and causes gas and bloating. Plants don't want to be eaten. They've developed chemical and physical means to prevent them from being eaten. There are so many ex vegans who feel better after adding animal products back into their diet. I encourage people to do their own research without any preset notions. Listen to your body and do what feels right for you

    Look at the nutrient density of ruminat organ meats, including heart and kidneys. Some of us have a multiplicity of autoimmune, endocrine, muskoskeletal, and head injuries we didn’t choose. The carnivore diet is not something I would naturally choose myself. I used to eat almost all veg, fruit some fish.
    However it has reversed arthritis which is genetic and started before age 18 became debilitating to the point I couldn’t walk in my 30’s.
    It has gotten me off heavy doses of migrane and seizure medication, it stops my migranes and MAST cell reactions (I am strict and include a lot of local pastured lamb organs-less than $4 a pound, and lamb necks, less than $6 a lb.). It has notably improved my brain function after very serious concussions from multiple bike accidents that were not my fault. I am so grateful. I would absolutely never choose this diet.
    You are WRONG I am on one of the most restricted budgets around. I cannot tolerate dairy not eggs due to mast cell, and the price of the nutrient dense foods that benefit me due to MTHFR and other is $5 a pound. I have hashimotos and a bunch of other stuff so I don’t loose weight but I want to stress that this diet is extremely affordable it stabilizes blood sugar and requires no snacks. The most phenomenal thing for those of us with extreme medical issues is how much better is possible to feel.
    I miss my prior diet but I need to manage my health. My neurologist, rhumetologist, Endocrinologist, dietician for people with extreme allergies, and primary care, as well as dr I have seen for two years plus at urgent care are in congruence for me to follow this diet. My bone density, at age 39, has improved by 14%

    I have to say, I tried Carnivore for 3 months two summers ago. Within the first week my chronic joint inflammation disappeared and my blood pressure was healthy for the first time in my adult life (I had been on meds for high blood pressure since my late teens). Then the chronic yeast infections I had been getting at least once a month for the last year went away. The constant cycle diarrhea, bloating, and constipation I had dealt with for nearly 10 years improved significantly. The daily debilitating heart burn I’d been experiencing for months disappeared. And I lost 10 lbs! My hair and nails grew better and I had plenty of energy and felt great! The ONLY issue I had was needing to supplement magnesium. The only reason I haven’t done it again is I just can’t handle eating the same food every day. I get sick of foods very quickly. The carnivore diet may go against a lot of conventional diet wisdom, but there is certainly something to be said for it! Many of the issues I mentioned came back immediately after quitting carnivore, and other issues have slowly crept back over time. It’s very disheartening to see my health deteriorate all because I can’t force myself to eat meat every day.

    Your comment on the microbiome in terms of this being an unsustainable dietary choice is very important. Diversity of bacteria in the gut is the metric we should all be striving to optimize for overall health. Our gut is an ecosystem, and all ecosystems on the planet thrive most when there is a diversity of species at all trophic levels. We are seeding the growth (or destruction) of our microbiome with every food choice we make. People who are struggling with digestive issues and restrictive diets should keep this in mind when trying to find a way out of chronic physical, and mental, illness.

    Regarding vitamin C, I read that its main purposes are to create collagen and help with the absorption of iron.
    Collagen creation and iron absorption are very important in almost every diet (especially in a plant based diet) but I am not sure it applies to carnivore diet as well. Carnivores should already take a lot of collagen from bone broth and from eating parts that are not usually eaten, like skin and joints of animals (as per the nose-to-tail eating philosophy). Iron absorption is absolutely not a problem in the carnivore diet, rather it's a problem the iron overload apparently! Furthermore, there is the theory that vitamin C is transported better in absence of glucose.
    It has to be said also that it is usually advised to cook light on carnivore, and that could preserve the vitamin C in meat.
    There are plenty of examples of indigenous tribes that lived of mostly meat and fish without contracting scurvy. Sailors ate just dried meat and bread.
    I am not aware of scurvy cases in the carnivore community, except for the anecdotal report of James Blunt who says he got it from eating only ground beef and chicken with mayo (which is not exactly a perfect carnivore diet).
    Anyway, I am surprised of how much the people is worried of vitamin C, and almost none is worried of B12 deficiency, even if the latter can lead to irreversibile damage (scurvy is bad but reversible).

    I love this! I suffer from crohn's, celiacs, and SIBO(methane dominant), my GI doctor has had me follow strict fodmap and/or keto/low carb diet combinations in conjunction with my regular gluten free diet during periods in which I am suffering more frequent attacks or prolonged symptoms of GI issues arise. Of course I hate every minute of it and these aren't diets that any one should sustain by choice just to lose a few pounds(I typically do not use anything besides water weight when on these diets as I work with my doctor to ensure that my dietary needs are being met). It upsets me that healthy people, with zero chronic GI issues, would subject themselves to such restrictive diets as a choice and without a physicians watchful eye.

      I have methane dominant SIBO and my symptoms have been greatly reduced by eating a largely whole foods, plant-based diet, with plenty of anti-inflammatory fruits.
