      Moriah Cote - and of course, celery is great in mac & cheese and also in cold macaroni salad, which also benefits from added cheese. Two drawers. One for cheese and one for celery...

      Positive Vibes Only Please And Thankyou - Definitely it's the taste of celery that I like. I went without celery for a long time because what I could find in the store tasted so bad. I tried again much later and they must have had a different supplier since it tasted good again.
      Am not going to waste money on food that doesn't taste good!
      Sometimes a good green bell pepper can substitute for celery if I can't find good celery. But good green peppers are sometimes also hard to find, don't know why. Local green peppers are more likely to taste good. Too much produce is bred for machine harvesting and transport and they forgot to breed for taste. Sometimes organically grown can be found and that usually tastes much better.

      I want to know how all that celery looks so good just tossed together dry in a drawer. Mine dies pretty easily, although lately I've had some success storing cut stalks in water. Sigh. I suppose Kylie has a special celery shopper on her staff. Or maybe it's delivered daily to her house.
      Love to eat celery, even all by itself. I even like the leaves. It's just hard to get the good stuff here.
      I've added some celery to fruit in the vitamix to make drinks of thick or thin consistency, and that can be nice. Kind of brightens up the taste of the fruit. Bell peppers of all colors do the same.

    Abbey: "I'm not a sushi connoisseur." Well, I AM a sushi connoisseur and have lived in Japan for years. You are absolutely bang on the money with soy sauce. You're only supposed to have a tiny drop or two to enhance the flavour, not dunk it in the stuff. However, I balk at the brown rice suggestion. The most important part of sushi is the rice. Sushi literally means vinegared rice and to get the right sushi, you need the right kind of WHITE rice. However, sushi is supposed to be a special meal, not eaten everyday. For most people it naturally is because of the price. So I simply suggest eating sushi the proper way (with white rice) - but just balance it with more produce and wholegrain in your other meals that day :)

    • @sj4iy
      @sj4iy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly...you don't drop it in or soak it. Also, when I was in Japan, the sushi chef always put the wasabi on the nigiri sushi already, so...no choice there. Personally, I prefer sashimi or chirashi, anyway. And I've only see brown rice sushi in the US...and I don't think it tastes right. I was a college student so it wasn't like I ate it often (just too expensive). It was usually only when we went out in a group. Usually my takeout there was gyuudon, ramen, or 7-11 (onigiri, oden, sandwiches) and sometimes macdonald's or moss burger...but most of the time I went grocery shopping for simple meals I could make in my tiny apartment.
      Even now in the US, when I want Japanese, I don't necessarily crave sushi or sashimi. I want hot pot, rice balls, soba with tempura, etc. Or just fish, miso soup and rice. I still save sushi for special occasions or when eating with a group.

    I absolutely love how you promote a healthy relationship with food!! You never label foods as “good” or “bad” you just talk about their nutrient content. I’ve been to several nutritionists in the past (since I was eleven years old) and all of them have given me a list of safe foods (some wouldn’t even allow me to eat carrots🙄🙄) which made me develop fear foods. Your videos have taught me about intuitive eating and that no food is bad, we should just have them in moderation, and eat a balanced diet! You saved my relationship with food! I even started even making vegan and vegetarian dishes to open up my pallet more. I watch you and pick up limes to make sure I am getting enough nutrients and to eat a more balanced diet. As someone who was a bodybuilder, I can attest to the fact that 99.9% of bodybuilders do eat the same thing every day😅 The person who commented saying that you can eat different things clearly isn’t very well educated on the topic. Bodybuilding is all about consistently getting the exact same macros every day, so it’s almost impossible to change up your meals every day (or if you did, you would have to sit down and compare and calculate macros for different foods for hours the night before which is unrealistic). On my last prep that lasted 7 months, I only had 3 different meal plans. I went a couple months at a time eating the EXACT same things every day. Bodybuilding was way too toxic for me mentally and really screwed up my body physically!! My menstrual cycles completely changed, I stopped my prep in March and have only been able to reach a couple pounds above stage weight and haven’t been able to gain any weight back no matter what I eat or do, I still always feel tired/cold like I did on prep even though I eat a balanced varied diet now, etc. I would love to see Abby do a video just on how bodybuilding affects your body!

    I struggle with an eating disorder and tend to blame myself for my own lack of willpower when I compare my habits to those of celebrities like Kylie so to hear a professional analyze how unhealthy her habits actually are is really relieving. It sounds like Kylie is someone who tries to eat healthily due to the pressure to look good and live up to impossible standards but in reality struggles a lot and doesn't have a great understanding of nutrition. She seems to be stuck in the "dieting means restricting from things you like" rather than "dieting means eating nutritious, fulfilling foods." It is still something I am learning so I hope she and I both can get better haha.

    Ok be thing about family meals is so true. All my memories of family meals involve hearing my mom push second helpings on us. She’d say things like “I don’t want to waste Tupperware on this little bit of food, so you guys should just eat it” or if I said I didn’t want any more she’d say “well I don’t want it either so you should eat it.” She would basically force extra helpings on me, my sister, and my dad. I can still see the face my dad would make when she tried to force food on him. He hated it. I also remember her not always eating the same things that she served us. Like we’d have chicken, broccoli, and some type of pasta side. She’d just have the chicken and broccoli and make the rest of us FINISH the box of Mac and cheese or pasta roni or whatever. And that was as a side dish. So our proportions were way off. I remember her eating Adkins bars all the time and making sure to go on walks and all that but never educated me on nutrition or exercise. She didn’t care if I was being active or not but ands sure that she was. She’d offer to pick us up some fast food but would rarely eat it herself. Or she’d make sure to get some veggies or a salad on the side of her meals but never made us do that. She still does it to this day. She’ll offer to pick up some food and then just bring stuff back for us but not get anything for herself. Even from places with nutritious options. I often think she borders on having orthorexia. My dad and I have binge eating disorder now. She still tries to push the food on me and it pisses me off. I’m trying to lose weight and she always brings home bags of cookies and whatever and then gets mad at me for not finishing them before they go bad but she won’t eat any herself. She also gets really annoyed when people comment on my weight loss. It’s strange. Almost like an evil queen/Snow White situation lol

    I really liked this video! Especially the bit about bacon, I didn't know it was such little difference between the two.
    Just one thing on the last part, I understood her statement a bit differently, not in a way of ''I have to lock myself away from unhealthy food'', but more like, ''I know I will be hungry so I'd rather have a healthy option on my hand.'' Like some people say to put your healthier snacks in front in your cabinets so you will be more likely to grab them. I'm not saying what she said was okay (because I don't think it was), I just understood it in that way which is maybe slightly less problematic?

    Hey Abbey,
    Personally, I enjoy having the same meal every day until I get bored with them. I have ADHD (+struggle with BED) and food prepping + planning is very overwhelming for me. Sooo I need to keep things really simple so I don't end up eating out for every.single.meal and/or binging.
    For example, the last few months I had a frozen/blended protein shake for breakfast every day, I got bored of that a week or two ago, and now I'm on to bagels with spread. So in my fridge, I have ~ meal-prepped~ a week worth of bagels w/ spread (breakfast), PB + J's (lunch), and some bomb-ass salads for dinner. I have snacks (nuts, salt n vin chips, fruits/veggies w dip) bagged and prepped for the week as well. And for coffee, I mix it w/ vega protein shake to have some time in the AM. I'll probably be cool with this for a few months until I get bored...
    I kinda got stressed when you mentioned how important it is to have a variety of stuff / mix it up every day. I feel like I would have a meltdown. I don't crave variety at all...I enjoy having the same thing until I'm bored of it and then on whatever's next. Kinda worried what I do is disordered now though...
    Does anyone else do this xD

    • @allyas
      @allyas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also got ADHD and I feel you on the food phases. I get a bit more variation in, because I hyperfocus on food and cooking, but I personally think having those phases provides kind of a variation, at least over time. Also, I think she meant neurotypicals who eat repetitively because of some diet plan, not people like us who just are obsessed with a food for a while because of our ADHD.

    • @ChrisLeigh
      @ChrisLeigh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not disordered unless you feel like you can’t allow yourself any variety, which doesn’t sound like that’s the case.

      I do not have ADHD but have been eating the same oatmeal every morning for at least 3 months. I love it and I don’t like having to think about what I’m going to eat. Same thing for lunch, I alternate between about 3 different options. It would cause major stress if I had to change it up often so I feel you!

      Okay that's funny, I have ADD too and I go through that type of "obsessive" cycle with everything but food !
      Over periods of a few days/weeks/months I have 1 to 4 activities that I do in my spare time and exclusively stick to : binge-watching an entire tv show, watching someone's entire YT catalogue, reading many books from the same genre back to back, playing one specific video game...
      During lockdown 1 when I was not studying (or having a breakdown lmao) I was either playing the Sims or reading Eragon. Now for lockdown 2 I switched to Zelda BotW and Agatha Christie lol
      However for some reason I get immediately bored of food repetition, even 3 days in a row is too much for me
      If I keep on eating the same day after day food loses its appeal and pleasure. I end up like Cpt Holt in Brooklyn 99 wishing I could just eat one piece of tasteless ""superfood"" that would give me all the nutrients 😂
