I have my grandfathers 32-20. My uncle told me about it. Grandpaw bought it for $20.00 and had it in a shoe box under his bed on the farm. My uncle was drafted to invade Japan but thanks to their surrender he came back home and found the gun starting to rust. So, he sent it back to colt and had them nickle plate it. He spent $40.00 for the plating so he felt the gun was his. He gave it to me when he was old and dying. It is one of my most treasured handguns.
Since then I got one in .38 cal.

My great Grandpa carry he lived to 107 and carried one longer than I remember. He loved it , was in shoot out with robbers in 1983.

One of these is as good or better than any modern 38 special revolver.

1957 Shep that is a great looking old Colt even with the reblue. The history behind the 32-20 round and its power is very respectable. I wouldn't mind getting one someday. Keep up the great videos on these fascinating classic revolvers!

I have one just like that! I wandered into my LGS on the same morning I bought a Winchester 1892 in 32-20 at another shop, Abe had the Colt with period holster and two boxes of ammo for cheap money, had to buy it. Nice shooting revolver, very mild recoil.

They are pretty common guns. And only the excellent condition ones will fetch high prices.
They make good shooters. 32-20 is not the easiest cartridge to reload, but not as much of a pain as 44-40 is.

Very nice. I have both the .32-20 and the .38 Special variants of these Police Positive revolvers and they are pretty cool, i must say.

I LOVE that nice, satin finish! I don't especially care for high gloss blue. Your Colt has a finish that looks just like what I recently put on my K98 Mauser.

Clyde Wary It would have originally had a high polish blue finish.

I own one in the same caliber , 6” just about every one of these you run across have a chunk missing out of the grip , also they usually are missing that knurled end on the ejector rod , you can usually get these ejector rod knobs on line for a couple of bucks .

Actually, you're right--it is a Colt in "Death Wish". The chamber release is just like the Colt models instead of the S&W models, and I've never seen a S&W .32 shaped anything like the one in the movie. I think the producers deliberately changed the grips so that there would be ambiguity with the gun.

Still a good shooter. If it had been original, the price would be high enough I probably would not have bought it.

I`ve got more old Colts that I have not gotten around to yet. 3 New Service revolvers that I`ll get around to sometime and a few others. Have a short vid on a well used Police Positive Target uploading right now. Should be ready in an hour or so.

I just bought it's twin today ' except ' I'm pretty sure mine has a 4in barrel. ' mine in original shape ' ' probably good to fair' but tge action is clean and works as it should ' it will take a few days before the background passes before I can pick her up but that's good because it will give be a chance to load up some ammo

Actually I think that one was a Police Positive in 32 S&W Long. The Police Positive Special is slightly larger and the 32-20 is quite a bit more powerful than 32 S&W Long.

So why is it 3220 but says .38 special? My serial number is 42698. I just inherited this, it was my great great granddads. Mine still operates inside and out, but I don’t wanna put a .38 in it if it’s chambered in 3220. Thanks.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  4 ปีที่แล้ว

The Police Positive Special was made in different calibers. 32/20, 38 Special, 38 &W, ect. It should be marked on your gun what the caliber is. The 38 Special version is the most common.

My father died last month and I found several handguns, none of them got my attention like the Colt. It's just like yours, only it's in awful shape. It still works, but the right grip is busted and it's FILTHY. You can still see the Colt on the frame, and I was going to have it re-blued until I heard you say that I shouldn't! The left grip is in great condition. I am going to keep it. Obviously because it was my poppa's. But what should I do with it? Just clean it up? I will have to replace the grips, but how important is it too keep them original? I saw some mother of pearl ones on Ebay that I really like. I have a carry permit and actually am considering carrying it. I'd love you input!

High pressure 32-20 ammo was not called +P. The high pressure 32-20 loads were for rifle only and should not be used in any revolver.

Your wrong. The Internet Movie Firearms Database states that "Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) uses a .32 caliber nickel plated Colt Police Positive revolver with a 4-inch barrel, given to him as a present by Ames Jainchill (Stuart Margolin) during his vigilante missions. He kills ten street muggers with it."

Very much a real firearm. Colt manufactured hundreds of thousands of them. But most were chambered for 38 Special instead of 32-20 (32 Winchester Center Fire) like this one.
