Watching tours 1 thru 4 is such a kick knowing what the property looks like 6 years later. It hardly looks like the same property, you and Aaron have accomplished so much.

Just searched for this video to see how far the property has come, and while that Is tremendous I had to laugh! At the end when you are showing the Greenhouse (formerly cold- frame) and frost free/installations, you were joking about how you did not like having the rut in your driveway while the frost free hydrant was being installed, oh if only you knew all the upheaval that would take place in 2020/2021/2022! Love it!

the "dwarf canna" you have there is actually a Banana tree. This is Ensete maurelii (Red Abyssinian Banana) and they get quite large, but are more leaves than trunk, and are, in my opinion, one of the easiest ornamental bananas to overwinter in a Frost free environment. I see these mislabeled as cannas all the time when they are small, because when they are gallon nursery pots, they look like cannas. In the late fall I top the foliage off of mine, and cut the drunk down to about half of its size and place it in my garage, then water it a couple times a month. In the spring when the Temps increase they bounce back with vigor and are more beautiful every year. Love your garden and videos!

I've recently gone back to start watching all your past videos again for the second time (while keeping up with new videos of course). Just watched your video for today (July 18 2022) on trimming up the elderberry into a tree form and cutting back the collette roses. And then I watched this video. The juxtaposition of the two is so pleasing. It was fun to see you turn the corner by the barn and look back to where that west side garden will eventually be. It's kind of like stepping into a time machine to visit with your previous self.

Laura: I really like when things are buttoned up
Laura in 2021: hole in the ground and dirt piles to install a Hartley. Entire from lawn and walkways ripped out and trenches for infrastructure to connect the two properties. 😁 boy oh boy has this property, their home, evolved.

Garden Answer Please consider not cutting down the spent plants until late Winter/early Spring. What you are seeing as a, "mess," is where beneficial insects overwinter , lay their eggs and is also their gestation/newborn nursery. Many of these plants also feed and shelter the birds during Winter. I find mine beautiful, texture and Winter interest. No trouble to cut back in Spring. After 18 years of planting beneficials and natives, honeybees chose one of my large trees to build their home. Beautiful.

I LOVE your garden and I really wish I had enough land to be able to do some of the things you do - you are so lucky!! I wonder why you don't have water collection from the barn and greenhouse though rather than using piped water? I have a couple of water collection areas around my little garden and it feels so nice to be able to reduce the amount of mains water I use both from a cost and environmental position. If I had your garden I would definitely be looking for as many ways to collect water as I could

pepper mint oil, spearimint oil(add as many mint oils you can get),a cinnamon oil and mix with soap and water and a small amount of sugar. I know sounds strange but it works great for me for spider mites, aphids, and some fungal problems. The best part is it natural and safe for bees!

Loved the tour and your land is beautiful. Oh no, not a daylily fan (LOL)... I guess I love them because they are drought tolerant and bloom the entire summer. I'll be bringing my "secret garden" back to life this spring and searching for mostly flowering shrubs that bloom spring, summer until first frost.... So far, I'm thinking hydrangeas and rose bushes... Any tips would be greatly appreciated. My latest video shows a quick tour of how it looks now... Have a great weekend...:)
