Can someone at Orvis explain why these are such an extortionate price? It's an upside down $5 kids toilet step stool with some cones and a belt! Yet sells for over US$100 here in AU, what a joke.
Ok, first I'm pretty new to use of stripping basket - now going for stripers in salt. I have seen people use the 2-handed retieve. One thing this instructor should have covered is setting the hook. From a book by Ed Mitchell - Saltwater Fly Fishing(highly recommend), he suggests that pulling on the line directly rather than raising the tip(as is common for river/lake fishing) is the way to go. Using the 2 handed retieve allows for you to feel the take and react with a simple tug on the line. Tight Lines!
i seriously need a strips basket!! so sick of line getting tangled up in the weed and the old school hand retrieve and make a ball in your hand doesn't work for most lines
I use a stripping basket for fly fishing in the salt for seatrouts. You give a great tip Peter, but holding the rod up high like that looks pretty excuse me, stupid :-) and people will probably laugh their ass off if they saw you fish like that :-) I'm not a big fan of stripping baskets. I know they are pretty much a necessity for saltwater fishing, but I feel it limits my retrieve by being in the way. But I use it.

I tried others... the Orvis basket is the best.

Think of it as a giant fannypack!
lol why don't u just use a regular spinning reel instead of pulling line with your hand
Because you don't use a spinning reel when fly fishing? What kind of question is that?
