Sorry to say why save for the future? When you can simply invest. Investing is a way of making your money make more money for you while you sleep in the nearest future.
Save raises or bonuses, rather than spending more. Do no spend challenges, start with a day, then a week, then a month. It's eye opening how much discretionary spending we do. Eating meals at home saves my family the most money, we even try to recreate our favorite restaurant meals.
Thanks for sharing, Ashlyn, I love getting new ideas for ways to save a little money. I have lots of little ways I save money that all add up over time. -I give haircuts to my husband and kids, and since I keep my hair long I can easily trim the ends myself when it's needed. -We buy our food staples in bulk, things like dried beans, oats, and buckwheat groats, they're all cheaper per pound when I buy 25 pound bags. -I buy some veggies in bulk when they're cheaper per pound, prep them, and keep them in the freezer until I'm ready to use them (bonus because it also saves time with food prep on a day to day basis 👍). - we eat homemade food and I cook most things from scratch, we only eat out maybe once a month. -I only go to the grocery store once a month, we save money on gas because that's three less round trips to make. - if there's a sale on something shelf stable that we eat a lot of I stock up. -I buy whole chickens and use the bones to make bone broth. -I save my veggie scraps in a bag in the freezer and when it's full I add it to my bone broth or use it to make veggie broth. -Whenever we get to the end of a jar of something I always use a small silicone spatula to scrape out the last bits, I can usually get another serving or two out. I also save glass jars and use them for storage. -This is one of my favorites, I save the base of my celery and sprout it in water, once its big enough I plant it in a pot and then plant it out in my garden when spring comes, fresh free celery all summer and fall! I dry the celery leaves and add them to broth when I don't have any celery scraps in the freezer. -I line dry our laundry. -I keep the house cooler in the cold months and warmer in the hot months, and when it's nice out I open the windows and turn off the furnace/air conditioner.
Toyota is the best! We bought a Corolla shortly after our 1st child was born and it was still working perfectly over 15 yrs later and our son drove it for his 1st 🚗car! Before the Corolla, we had a Toyota Tercel which they no longer make and then we upgraded to Sienna after our 2nd child was born. If you shop at Aldi, no coupons are needed bc everything already cost less. Then, you can use Target for anything that you cannot find at Aldi. We also do most things ourselves :) and enjoy a smaller 🏡home. Another money saver is not to buy beverages when you are out. Our daughter saved up for an espresso machine and now, no more fancy coffees at 8$ a piece. You will love the library when you start your family and it will become an awesome tradition!

Instead of buying them, multiplying or propagating plants can save lots of money! Most of my plants come from cuttings or leaves or that I got from my own plants or cuttings given by friends. It's just like sharing books! You can exchange cuttings between friends and get lots of wonderful plants for free. You can do this with seeds too! I've planted small trees from the small fruit of trees in parks. You can use lemon seeds (and other citrus plants), strawberry seeds, avocado stones, and so on🙂. I planted a date, an olive, a rose hip, and they grew. You just need to be patient!
One of the best ways my hubby and I have saved money was to have me learn to cut his hair! We bought a $30 clipper set on Amazon and we've saved hundreds with me just cutting his hair at home 😊
Everyday eating out can be a budget buster - that $3.00 coffee every morning - the $4.00 breakfast sandwich - eating a $10.00 lunch everyday at the company cafeteria - supper at the drive thru - snacks at the movies. It all adds up. Most of that you can do from home at about one fifth the price. So we do out to eat about 5 times a year at an upscale restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries , ect. We feel that a dinner at an upscale restaurant give one such more value per dollar as compared to mundane everyday cost of what I call the " grab and go " food. The money saved can be used to do more fun activities that are not just eating just average food.

On the DIY thread, make your own cards, re-gift things you won’t use/don’t like or have duplicates of, consolidate trips/errands (eg, have one errand day where you go into town and do / buy everything) to save gas, pay yourself (your savings) first, meal plan around store promotions, buy in bulk for frequently used items that don’t go bad quickly, avoid high cost prepared and packaged foods … buy more Whole Foods and make more things yourself, frequent stores like TJ Max for clothes and Grocery Outlet for canned goods.
I love making my own cards for other people- especially if a birthday is coming up! I've given quite a few of those to my parents; they really love them. I also have been getting into re-gifting things that I have too much of or that I won't use. :D
Shop at cheaper grocery stores, take advantage of cash back on apps and credit cards, buy used, set monthly limits on “fun” spending, don’t pay extra for convenience (delivery or shipping, for example), don’t buy disposable items like paper plates, napkins, paper towls, etc., cook from home. Only thing I’d disagree with you on is that sometimes having notifications about sales in your inbox can be helpful if you have the self control. If you need to replace an item, buy a gift for someone, or make a purchase, knowing when that item is on sale is huge. For example, if you know something your friend might want for Christmas is on sale in july, you can buy it early and save big bucks :) All the little things do add up, but At the end of the day though, you have to really sit back and consider what is worth doing. It might be worth it to you to buy paper plates if you don’t have a dishwasher. I know I often choose not to sell most things I’m decluttering because if the stress it adds to my inconsistent schedule :)
One way I am saving money is trying to get healthier. That way I will potentially have less health problems when I am older. I am walking more the last few months and losing weight as well. This could save tens of thousands of dollars in health care BUT I also feel better. I live about two hours away from the largest resale shop in the South. I love to shop there. It's a fun day trip where I can also go out to eat a few times, shop other places, and make a fun day of it. I have a Prius so I don't need to worry about the gas cost. I sometimes reuse tea bags for my hot tea. I just use a little less water in the tea bag the second time. I try not to waste food. I am eating low carb and have even started saving hamburger and chicken grease with which to cook savory dishes. We also paid our current house off about 15 years ago and saved over $140,000 in interest. We paid our starter home, a much cheaper home, and saved some on interest too. In fact, it was owner financing and the owner told us if we paid it off, he would take some off the principal! Ashlynne, I just love your channel!
In the uk if you borrow from the library the author still gets an income from their work. So please do that as a first option as everyone wins. It’s great to share books, but writing is quite a tough field to make money in and every sale counts.
I actually made myself go digital for school and some of my hobbies just for money purposes. I invested in a used iPad an Apple Pencil and a couple wonderfully rated apps for far less than I would have if I was slowly acquiring the pieces that replaces. It replaces text books, notebooks, pens, highlighters, etc. it also deters me from buying excess of those items. I in fact find myself astounded at how pricy it is when you add it up every semester/couple months etc.
My “hacks” all came from your videos xD But my favorite is using alternate spices/grocery items for recipies. Example- instead of buying a sauce to be used for one dish I will use something similar I already have to minimize waste (physical and financial waste!)

We own a Honda and have gotten great gas mileage, probably the best gas mileage since I owned an old VW that still took leased gas (tells you my age). I will say, in our experience with both kinds of car, something to think about on electric-yes, can be more expensive on the front end, depending on what you get. While you don’t have to have the more frequent oil changes, when they do have to go in for upkeep or work, you have to have money saved up for the cost because it is higher. When it comes time for batteries, make sure you have put aside a good amount of money. Also having the ability to charge can be a challenge even now when there are more stations to charge so you have to be prepared. To be honest, and again, just from our experience, the difference between the Honda and the electric-over time-negligible. And on a long trip-the Honda any day! The other tips are spot on. I will say, if there are books you just really want to add to your own personal library (there are some that I reread and keep) going to second hand and thrift stores, even looking online until you find a really inexpensive price is good-delay the purchase gratification, as it were.
Saving your money will not make you have more money, it will only make you run out of cash, because you will be using from it any time you need money, but investing it will make you earn and earn and keep on earning, till you become successful in the rest of your life so make a wise decision now and be happy. Just I like I did.

I DIY a lot. I have used youtube to learn new skills. Just by watching a video on how to replace a switch in a washing machine I saved $500 the part was just $15 and it took me an hour to fix it. In my town there is a big construction company and they believe in being ethical when doing demo work. So they have a huge dumpster like bin that is full of wood from jobs they had that is free for the public to come and take. I am building my dog a house and I got half the wood I need for it from them. This has saved me a couple hundred bucks. Plus the wood is better quality than I was going to buy.
