"Originally, the song was called "Aneurysm". That's what it's about, an aneurysm in your head killing you, and how you're transformed from a living being into dying. It's written in a lot of metaphors."
Yeah, this. Anthropomorphizing the symptoms of a disease and speaking of it as if it has agency and a will of its own is.. very metal hah. But obviously not something you immediately think of while analysing the lyrics of a song.
Seeing people exposed to Meshuggah for the first time is so funny. They're never ready. Too bad this version with the video isn't the full song. This ends right before a nice melodic guitar solo that leads into an intense outro. I remember how overwhelming this band was before I started to understand their sound. Once you're used to it and can hear that they're playing these crazy, relentless, heavy songs in normal 4/4 time, it's strangely satisfying.
I remember a "cutesy" K-pop fangirl doing a first time ever heavy metal reaction, and she started with Behemoth - Blow your trumpets, Gabriel. Video and everything. That girl was legitimately traumatised, I don't think she ever fully recovered from that experience.
The live version of this, especially the drum cam version is a must..... Yes, Meshuggah is heavy! And carrying that weight for a full set is exhausting. It's hypnotizing.
Glad to see Meshuggah coming up. Bleed is a LOT for someone that doesn't regularly listen to heavier stuff. One of their more accessible songs is called "Rational Gaze". Give that one a listen...I love the groove in that song.
This band has influenced so many band since they started their band. You gotta be in a certain mood to enjoy them because they're so complex with so many odd time signatures and changes all the time. We wouldn't have so many metal bands today if it wasn't for Mesguggah. ❤
It's all 4/4 time, just with copious amounts of syncopation and phrases that don't fit into 4/4 time. There's like one bar of 2/4 in this song, but that's it.
Meshuggah is rad, glad it blew your mind a little bit :). As others mentioned, the video cuts out a big chunk of the full song (mostly the guitar solo) but you can watch a live video for the whole thing if you want to hear the guitar solo.
Well done for tackling Meshuggah! They are a bit like Tool, their video’s don’t have a lot to do with the song, plus this is an MTV acceptable version, the original is much longer. You were pretty close, afaik this song is about having a brain aneurism. You need to see the live drum cam video of this. P.S. Seeing them next week, can’t wait.
The original title of this song was "Aneurysm", and indeed, it is about the experience of dying from a brain aneurysm. The painted white guy is a reference to the name of the album, "Obzen". Which is a sort of amalgam of the 'ob' from 'obsceity' and zen, so as to create a word that sorta means the opposite of Zen, and that man has achieved whatever 'Nirvana' state goes with this 'Obzen'.
Well now it's time to watch the live version of this song, the drum cam for Tomas Hakke, and follow that up with the drum playthrough of Clockworks, welcome to Meshuggah!
5:19 the witches with the strings are usually either the 3 Moirai (greek) cutting your string/threat of destiny or might as well be the Norns (norse), either way, it's a similar concept
hands down one of their coolest ones is Straws Pulled At Random. Once again super heavy song but it gives way to this melodic section at the end. And another cool one is Broken Cog, I'd say that ones more digestible for a djent beginner lol
I will never understand why they cut out the great ending from the music video. It always feels so incomplete. There's like 3 incredible minutes missing
I know it’s very heavy but you should watch the live version with the drum cam. Truly impressive to watch Thomas play this song he is like a living metronome
Great you're doing Meshuggah but it is a bit an acquired taste. And Bleed is in my opinion not the best place to start, unless you're a drummer and watch the live drum cam version. (same goes for Clockworks, I see it recommended but that's serious deep end Meshuggah) Better try 'Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave it Motion' which is quite a bit slower and has pretty straight forward lyrics (It's poetically describing the feeling of revenge) Another good one, more melodic, is 'Dancers to a Discordant System'. In the same way there is 'Straws Pulled at Random' which is a thunderstorm where the suns breaks through and it becomes a beautiful day after all. A beautiful instrumental from their last album is 'They Move Below'. Very hypnotic. But it's all extremely heavy, of course. Not much bands heavier than Meshuggah.
You need to watch the drum cam of Thomas Haake now too. He is a fucking weapon. And it's much longer too. There's whole other section that's not part of the music video.
I believe the working title was Aneurysm. Thomas Haake, the drummer worked tirelessly on the polys that you hear on his double bass drum. Almost scrapped it, then just changed his technique to how he was physically playing it. Phenomenal work
You are correct, it was titled Aneurysm. The polyrhythm tho, is played between the hands ("counted" 4/4) and the feet ("felt" 3/4). The pattern he plays on the double bass is called a herta. Thomas said in an Interview, it took him 6 months to learn just this song! The same time it took for the rest of the album. Dude’s a beast xD
Saw these guys open for Megadeth once. That was a wild show. This was the song Meshuggah closed their set with. Hearing the madness that is this song is one thing. Feeling every double bass drum note rattling your bones is a whole other experience.
Im glad you hear Meshuggah. Dont be suprised it blew your mind, its hard for many to get in at the start. It was for me too and now its some of my favorite workout songs in the gym. You allready heared TOOL, so i highly recommend you Opeth. They are an amazing Band, having a shitload of great songs. For starters i would recommend "Harlequin Forest" and "Ghost of Perdition".
Wow, you got to listen to one of their slowest tracks! Pog Next you should go with The Mouth Licking What You've Bled. Slightly faster, a tad bit more technical :)
I love that song. Also, somethings love to do is to sing this song in bars during karaoke night. Yes, I'm the only one who sing that kind of epic song XD. Twice, 2 girls came to me and said that they we're scared! They enjoy but were also scared :) You miss the instrumental part (the best part actually) of the song and the end... :P
Yeah, Meshuggah is relentless. And not an easy band to get into, but they got the grooves that keep on giving if you can get past the initial shock. They were way ahead of their time, and their influence over the whole metal genre is undeniable.
Whoo, Meshuggah! What a pleasant surprise. It's funny, but I can't help slip amidst all the heaviness into a crazy or bizarre state of zen whenever I listen to them (which is appropriate given their name). Dancers to a Discordant System is perhaps the blackest Jazz you'll ever hear.
The blackest jazz you'll ever hear is the album Blackjazz by Shining. The other, more Miles Davis post smack, option is The Feral Wisdom by Wormlust. Like a jazz band on acid being abducted and driven mad by a volcano demon and accidentally achieving black metal as a result. Dancers is a tune though. Actually, Sleepwalker and Fleurety also do the black jazz thing pretty damned well. Although Sleepwalker is a lot like like a black metal version of the Sumac improv albums.
So happy you looked at Meshuggah! I have been a big fan for nearly 20 years. Bleed is their least interesting song in my opinion so I hope you explore more of their discography. The lyricism is typically great and their heavy yet progressive sound is always interesting.
I've got the drum-cam video version of this song playing in the background while I'm writing this. I like the mix better than the album version. The studio version is too trebly and a bit bassless. The bAJ1WTGNISk live version is less 'scratchy.' Then again, I'm a Gen-X metalhead with light, but significant hearing loss, I'm physically not qualified to critique a mix, so I can't resent any skepticism.

meshuggah -> Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion
I never watch the videos. I want to feel it wash over me. I love this band but I can't think too hard about the lyrics. I just listen. Live versions or even just the album cover. The music is hypnotic and calming for me. Clearly the lyrics are not calm but Tomas Haake's drums are very soothing.
As always, the music video to this song should never be the first listen. It cuts off half the song! When you look up a song to listen to and it's 7 minutes, don't go and listen to the version that is 4.
Bleed is not really a beginner Meshuggah song. It's too intense. And this wasn't the complete song. Seems like it missed about two minutes of build up to the end. Rational Gaze is a good starter song.

Thats a nirvana song
Like Schism by Tool

unfortunately there is like 2min of song missing from the music video
Dancers to a Discordant System is another song off the album you need to check out. My favorite metal song of all time.
More likes are needed for this comment!!!
Its the most perfect song in the history of songs
It took me a while with Meshuggah but at some point it clicked. Phenomenal band and so good live. Super heavy and groovy.
Same, totally agree. Rational Gaze is one of my favourites now.
yep, years ago my bassist friend introduced me to Demiurge and i thought the song was kinda sluggish and boring… now Meshuggah is in my top 3 bands
For me it was instant the second I heard Bleed for the first time
If you want a really good video by Meshuggah I recommend New Millennium Cyanide Christ 😊
Yes! Also, Rational Gaze reaction would be cool!
Agreed. Favorite song.
solid pick and fun video!
€2 music video budget done right
Agree. One of my favorite track and also the best music video ever.
Tbh ive never seen the music video for this song. Only ever seen Haake's foot cam lol
Same
The song is about brain aneurysm but they say its more about how a person is "converted" from a living being to a dead being.
For a faction of your listeners, this music breings relaxation. Choas, breeds mental order.
Glad to see Meshuggah coming up. Bleed is a LOT for someone that doesn't regularly listen to heavier stuff. One of their more accessible songs is called "Rational Gaze". Give that one a listen...I love the groove in that song.

One of my favourite bands the last 34 years! These swedish guys are just brilliant in what they are doing!
Meshuggah is rad, glad it blew your mind a little bit :). As others mentioned, the video cuts out a big chunk of the full song (mostly the guitar solo) but you can watch a live video for the whole thing if you want to hear the guitar solo.
Meshuggah is a monster of a band. Congrats on finding the best drummer of all time.
your favorite metal bands favorite metal band.

Tool? 😂 more like Gojira
@@Godless-Being In what way they're like Gojira???
@@Godless-Being gojira is amazing but they are nothing like meshuggah
Then what about New Millennium Cyanide Christ? Best music video ever 🤗
They're nothing like other bands, they're simply... Meshuggah.
Meshuggah was formed in 87, before Tool and way before Gojira.
Your favorite drummers favorite drummer
There's heavy....Then there's Meshuggah 🤘 look into Yogev Gabay's channel for breakdowns of Meshuggah songs
The original title of this song was "Aneurysm", and indeed, it is about the experience of dying from a brain aneurysm.

This is my wake-up alarm every morning, for good reason!
Well now it's time to watch the live version of this song, the drum cam for Tomas Hakke, and follow that up with the drum playthrough of Clockworks, welcome to Meshuggah!

Is that the three Fates?
@dwightk.schrutae8696 yes they are
8:50 Dense... Thick... Weightful... Powerful... Crushing... Shattering...
Meshuggah are the most influential metal band of the last 20 plus years. Modern metal wouldn't be the same without them. They're Gods haha.
Do Clockworks next, the breakdown is awesome.
I prefer the breakdowns from their earlier stuff but clockworks is still a monster of a song
I've not diven into the deep end of Meshuggah but that's my fav song of theirs!
hands down one of their coolest ones is Straws Pulled At Random. Once again super heavy song but it gives way to this melodic section at the end. And another cool one is Broken Cog, I'd say that ones more digestible for a djent beginner lol
Everyone needs to start recommending the non-music video version of Bleed. Depriving people of that delicious, jazzy solo is a crime.
"Are you just channeling Tool right now" I loved it
I will never understand why they cut out the great ending from the music video. It always feels so incomplete. There's like 3 incredible minutes missing
I know it’s very heavy but you should watch the live version with the drum cam. Truly impressive to watch Thomas play this song he is like a living metronome

Ligature Marks is such an underrated banger aswell
@@muskelversagen True.
FInally Meshuggah! But im still begging you for Periphery
Well, not that she's getting into djent, maybe Periphery will happen
Saaaaame
Meshuggah superior. Periphery inferior.

Nice to see Meshuggah. Just a pity that you used the edited version. The live version is worth a watch
I highly recommend Clockworks by the same band
Im glad you hear Meshuggah. Dont be suprised it blew your mind, its hard for many to get in at the start. It was for me too and now its some of my favorite workout songs in the gym.
You allready heared TOOL, so i highly recommend you Opeth.
They are an amazing Band, having a shitload of great songs. For starters i would recommend "Harlequin Forest" and "Ghost of Perdition".
Starting with Bleed is really jumping in at the deep end. Respect.
This is a good song. The live drum cam video is amazing. One of the hardest songs to play on the drums.
Wow, you got to listen to one of their slowest tracks! Pog
Next you should go with The Mouth Licking What You've Bled. Slightly faster, a tad bit more technical :)
FYI ... Ralph Fiennes pronounces his name as Rafe, as in rhymes with safe.
Probably the most influential metal song of 2000s, there won't be Sleep Token or Spiritbox without Meshuggah
That’s valid. Or fax, as the kids say.
I spent my teenage years searching for heavier music. Saw meshuggah at ozzfest in 2001. Never looked back
Hell of a Gym song
I love that song. Also, somethings love to do is to sing this song in bars during karaoke night. Yes, I'm the only one who sing that kind of epic song XD.

Legendary song
This song's about the process of going through an aneurysm and the intense pain before dying.
May I suggest a song? Machine Head - Clenching the Fists of Dissent... I think it's the best metal song of the last 30 years :)
So happy you looked at Meshuggah! I have been a big fan for nearly 20 years. Bleed is their least interesting song in my opinion so I hope you explore more of their discography. The lyricism is typically great and their heavy yet progressive sound is always interesting.
No, not the music video! They edit out half the song! You half to check out the audio only or the live drum cam with Thomas Haake.
one of the hardest songs to play ever... on any instrument
My favorite songs are Bleed, Combustion, the Demons Name is Surveillance, Clockworks, Demiurge, and born in dissonance
To me the best " Bleed " song out there is. = Cold - Bleed ft. Aaron Lewis
Just takes me back. Its sentimental.
And Cold is such a underrated band.
You should take a look at the drum play trough off this song and Clockworks! The drummer (Thomas) is a beast!
Meshuggah , "it's Heavy" -2024
This song is about the last moments of someone having an aneurisms.
Love bleed, tired of the song, try Dancers to a Discordant system off the same album..
Mushuggah...."its so heavy"
She survived
The song was supposed to be called "Aneurysm" before they changed it to "Bleed".
More Meshuggah please :)
Rational gaze
I hope you do their song dont look down next
This is the first reaction to this song that I’ve seen where the main focus wasn’t on the drums.
Straws Pulled at Random for next Meshuggah
Top 10 songs. Also.... moaaaarrrrr
They are an Extreme Death Metal band so yes they are Heavy....😂😂😂
Welcome to the club! lol
Please do more meshuggah 🙏🏻
It's about a brain hemorrhage. The struggle to understand comes from not knowing the feeling. This is the feeling.

Watch the drum cam for this one. Very impressive. Can help you get it.
I’m getting very Ministry “New World Order” vibes from this.
Please react to Inamorata from Metallica! It's from their latest album and their longest song. You will like it!! Big vibes from Costa Rica.

Do abysmal eye from Meshuggah live Bloodstock (2023) ITS BRUUUUUUUUUTAL, please? I promise you won’t regret it plus it’s live.
to be fair, it is pretty heavy.
React to STMLT - twilight
The song's about having an aneurisma.
Day 1 of asking for a Dayseeker reaction
check out the drum cam ;)
I know she's a singer but this is clearly a song where you should be more focused on instrumentation than lyrical content
Demiurge is a fun one.
Do you guys like this version or the Radio Disney version? :P
Nice
this song is about brain aneurysm
Music sometimes is ruined by the visual medium. The video just accompanies the music. Doesn’t have much to do with it in this case though.
You would love DECENT by FEAR FACTORY!!!
Wait wheres the rest of the song thats only half of it
