Had a lucky 3 today.... Used Trail as the starter, as it's never been used by Wordle. Had the 'A' in position, so chose from a list I've been making since I started this game, which gave me the 'P' and 'H', albeit out of position. My sequence... Trail, Poach, Shape! Also, thanks for tomorrow's starting word... Anime. Doug you should play with the Wordle list; it would have eliminated your stress, as the majority of your options had already been used.
Great solve, Doug! I got incredibly lucky this time and got it in two! There was actually a little bit of strategy involved, though. My usual instinct if I had the A and E in those positions after the first guess would be to guess STARE, SLATE, or PLATE (WordleBot's preferred starting word for hard mode). However, since the first guess had already eliminated the T and R, I thought a word using both S and P might be a good choice. I entered the word SHAPE and struck gold! 🥇🎉 (It wasn't the most skillful/helpful choice according to WordleBot, but hey, it worked out for me, right? 🤷♀️) Here's my word progression and WordleBot scoring for hard mode: _(skill/luck/#_ _of_ _possible_ _words_ _left)_ Wordle 1,115 2/6* [hard mode] ⬛⬛🟩⬛🟩 TRACE _(97/64/39)_ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 SHAPE _(84/98/-)_ WordleBot Skill 84/99 Luck 81/99 ANIME is an excellent choice for your starting word for tomorrow. Nice job Doug! I was lucky like you to get the A & E, and then choose an SH word, otherwise there are so many options. A 3 for me today.... ORATE SHAME SHAPE
Back on the horse again today after yesterday's wipe out with a bogey five (but on Doug's reckoning actually a par 4 after using an eval word!). INTER, MOUSE, SHAKE, PLEAD (testing for shade and shale though I overlooked shave) SHAPE.
I got it in three. STARE gave me three greens but left me facing a potential trap. Rather than chase solutions I opted for CHILD to test some plausible consonants. That left me with SHAxE. After discovering that shake, shame, and shave were previous solutions, the word SHAPE seemed like the only option.
TRACE - SHADE - SHAME- SHAPE Eventhough it took me 4 tries - That was probably one of the quickest solves yet. Thanks @Armasubi for a great starting word!

Well done, Doug. I have no problem with eval words especially with a situation like today. After stare I had S__A__E. I counted 15 words that would fit and 7 of them have already been the answer. I chose “clump” and that gave me the “P”. So a “3” from me today. StArE- clumP- SHAPE
You had five possibilities with four guesses left, but four of those possibilities (SHADE, SHAKE, SHAME, and SHAVE) had all been the answer already in the past. But since your videos don't ever feature you checking a Wordle answers website, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't pause the recording to do that. 😅 (The video flow is too smooth for it to appear that way, anyway.) I think it would be valid if you did decide to do that, though. I also wish Wordle wouldn't let you enter words that had already been the answer, but I suppose you sometimes need/want to do that for evaluation purposes. Maybe a prompt that says, "This word has already been a Wordle answer. Are you sure you want to proceed?" with Yes and No buttons? A girl can dream, right? 🤣

Looking up past Wordle solutions WHILE PLAYING is akin to having source materials readily available while taking an exam. Knowing Wordle hasn't had a repeat solution and having a compendium of Wordle history will certainly narrow down your choices of possible answers and increase your chance of solving the puzzle with greater efficiency. If a word I'm thinking to input has a high probability of being a previous answer ( usually they are of the common usage), I'll immediately try to come up with an alternative. But sometimes gut instincts do results in much bellyaching later or that spur of the moment 💡turned out to be not so bright but I digress. I, without fail, check my starting word if it's been used before with the help of 5 🍴(sans the spoons)😉
After the game I use a website to come up with the number of 'probable and unlikely' words after each guess. It also produces a list of words to try next guess, and a 'best' word. Again I think that using this during the game would not be 'playing fair'.
@@c0ntrar1anI list Doug's suggested starting word, and whether or not it has been a Wordle solution. I use Doug's word as my starting word either way.
@AppleTom9091 I use Doug's suggested starting word as long as it's never been a past Wordle answer and opt for my own whenever it's already been a solution before. I'm still hoping to get the elusive hole-in-one. 🏌♂️
I don't look at any outside sources such as prior Wordle answers, dictionaries, etc. while playing, or even after playing, although that would be fair. If you're not in a Contest with specified rules, you can choose your options. I sometimes do remember a past answer, but that's the extent of my checking Obviously if some check lists while playing and some don't, our playing fields aren't equal.
Doug, if you "take a chance" with five possibilities and only four guesses left, you only have an 80% chance of getting the solution. That ain't smart.
My Brother-in-law tells me he sometimes uses more than one device to play Wordle. If he can't solve the game within six guesses, he moves to the second device to finish the game. I consider that to be cheating. So how about "cheat" as the starting word?
