    Quick note regarding healthcare.
    I'm a Canadian and I am profoundly unsatisfied with our completely crap healthcare system. We practically don't even have a healthcare system. We have government subsidized waiting rooms.

      Razlo5000 whenever I try to make the argument that Canadians healthcare system isn't very good and certainly not deserving of the praise Bernie sanders gives it. Without fail I get the response, "Are you kidding? All Canadians love their healthcare system!". Is this a lie or do people just not see what is actually happening?

      As a Conservative American, I do believe there is a way to implement a single-payer national healthcare system that works. The biggest problem in America that we face is the inflated cost of healthcare and until we can solve that, nothing we do will be sustainable.

      Yeah, this Buckley guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I am a canuck too, and I gotta say the fact that most "Canadians are satisfied with their system" is such an asinine argument-- it just indicates how brainwashed most of us are up here. Our healthcare is CRAP, I've ranted on about this on my channel many times.

      Our healthcare may be too expensive here in the US, but it sure is fast. I've never had to wait for anything. If you're middle class or higher in the US, you have access to the best healthcare in the world.

    I live in Ontario and have never been satisfied with OHIP. I've spent countless hours in ERs waiting for the one doctor on duty to get to me. DOesn't matter if it's one of the big ones on University Ave, or North York general. The ERs and quality is/are TERRIBLE and we're only covered for the absolute basics.
    The "refugees" are getting better health care.
    Either you believe competition works, or you don't. No special pleading for health care.

      As a practioner who has worked in those ERs, the reason it takes forever is the people with no insurance that use the ER is a primary care office and come in for the most trivial stuff like a mosquito bite or to simply get their kid a doc's note and we are required by law to treat everyone regardless of how stupid or unnecessary their complaint is

    People don't how the free market works. There is no free market in medicine in the US. Saying our current system is bad is the same as saying Governemnt third party payor systems are bad. Costs are out of control because we have a third party payor system (sometimes the gov sometimes the private sector due to the tax system) that destroys the price mechanism that is at the center of all efficiently run markets. This stuff isn't taught in our schools and even conservatives don't understand it.

  • @markfernando6967
    @markfernando6967 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    American states would have to raise taxes significantly to administer universal healthcare. Is there an appetite for that and to cut down defense spending (you all know other entitlements will never be touched)? The average Canadian family spends about $11000/year in taxes for health care. It's not free.

In Canada we have the insurance protection act to protect the insurance companies from big payouts. They won't make the doctors pay either. You Americans actually have rights and don't forget that.

    I am from Canada and our healthcare is as expensive as fuck and mediocre; not terrible but mediocre. If you have a serious condition you are often waiting months and months and often the doctors will say something like if you can afford to do it go the the US and get it done there. A close family member of mine has a serious medical condition and thankfully we were able to fly her to Arizona and had premium care; head and shoulders beyond what we have up here. People up here regularly say it is free when in reality a massive sum of our tax dollars go to getting mediocre care.

    social security is not mainly an "entitlement." People are forced to pay into it and not so long ago conservatives argued that social security was bad because the return on contributions was lousy compared to what Wall Street could provide. You don't hear that argument anymore because the bailout created too much distrust of Wall Street. So they switched the agenda from privatizing it to cutting it so they will have more money to spend fighting wars in the middle east. But it's still a good argument. Getting your money back with puny interest is not much of an 'entitlement.'

    Canada's system is designed for acute care and minor care, but chronic or non-emergency stuff is well below par. So if you're in a car crash, have a heart attack, or need blood work you're golden; got cancer, diabetes, or need joint replacement - you're fucked. It's a matter of funding though - the feds don't wanna pay and the provinces can't raise the money... it's a 20yr old game of chicken that cities can manage (through private fundraising) but rural people are left in limbo
    I also think that if America gets A LOT of doctors from Canada, doctors chasing the $$$. If America goes single payer than Canada will retain more of the doctors we train and it will create a noticeable effect on both sides. Canada's system is quite average but it's nothing money can't fix, and I think since Americans spend DOUBLE what Canadians spend that if they switched over and cut that spending by 25% they'd still have a massively improved system than Canada's and probably better results for their citizens than now.

  • @1timby
    @1timby 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Single payer only works when the GOV taxes the heck out of everyone. Not to mention that The Canadian, Sweden, British, etc plans are mediocre at best. Many wait years for operations and wait maybe months to see a DR. Having to pay on top of huge taxes to get a better HC coverage is preposterous. We have the best model where innovation, as well as best coverage, only occurs in a free market.
    Whenever the GOV forces a system on the public it's just a tragedy going somewhere to happen. One need only look at the VA HC & coverage to see the GOV HC in action. Then the left will moan that not everyone has the same coverage if others are allowed to get better coverage. It will be racist, bigoted, etc.
    There use to be a ton of hospitals that provided free or cheaper HC. But they have gone under because of the GOV & folks wanting to charge so much for HC. The GOV needs to stay out of HC.

    Ben, can I give you a serious suggestion? Fire your sound guy. Your mouth needs to be at least 6" in front of the mic. Even though mics can pick up sound from far away and some have pre-amps.... it still distorts the signal no matter what. Which makes the sound in all your videos sound hipassed. There's no bass, no warmth, too much compression and distortion on the high end. Some people have sensitive ears that tingle and agitate their ear drums. And having a medium to high pitched voice compounds the effect making it worse.
    Please adjust your mic and turn off the pre-amp or turn down the gain on your limiter. If you need a hotter signal record closer with lower gain. And I'd throw PSP vintage warmer or a bit of overdrive to fill out the bass. Just a tiny bit if you can sit closer please.

    I'd be satisfied with less than all americans being covered. Healthcare is a luxury, it has been throughout history. I'm sorry that bad things happen, I'm dealing with an injury myself at this moment that has me off work and I understand the fear of not having insurance. But why is that the next guy's problem unless he wants to help? Why should I force him to support me? That's theft. Speaking of theft, taking 1/5 of my monthly income for insurance, leaving me nothing to spend on actual healthcare so that everyone can be covered. GG And yes, actually there is a movement in Canada right now to get off their system. It DOES suck. People have lost perfectly good limbs that could have been saved because they just couldn't get in to see the doctor. People have died. >.> Even their own healthcare workers will tell you in Canada to go to another doctor with cash only because of how inefficient it all is.

  • @nr63kish
    @nr63kish 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    ......What a dip. "One way of measuring quality is to ask people whether or not they're satisfied with what they get". No...no it isn't. Somebody 100 years ago would be very satisfied with a Model T, today, that's not quality, that's an ancient relic. So if a person in modern America is dissatisfied with a system that is ruined, we should turn to a backwards system where people are happy, that is, unless they have money and can afford to come to America to get treatment? Everybody has a Model T in Canada, and because everybody has one, they're satisfied, but if someone wants a Hummer and can afford it, they come to America. THEN you've got his idiotic position that many conservative politicians don't want to do away with entitlement programs. Yes, they do, but many know that it's potential political suicide to do what's right, versus do what will keep them in power. Social security should be eliminated, Obamacare should be eliminated, every God damned federal entitlement program should be eliminated, but to do so will piss off a lot of people, even though it will make the country better, those are voters we might lose. Pansies the whole lot. Do what's right, not politically popular, you fucking pussy.

      I can't speak for Ben but I think the free market system is better than a government imposed system. Let the consumer choose what health care insurance they want. If insurance companies have to compete for your business then market forces will drive the cost of insurance to a optimal price that is good for the insurance company and good for the consumer. It is government regulations that limit competition and drive prices up.
