  • Step inside California's new $120 million dollar St. Michael's Abbey and meet the men there living this monastic life.
    St. Michael’s Abbey in Orange County, California was founded in 1961 by seven Hungarian priests who fled communism. They are part of the Norbertine order, with a history going back 900-years. The Fathers live a common life of liturgical prayer and care for souls. The abbey in Orange County consists of over fifty priests and nearly forty seminarians studying for the priesthood.
    The Norbertine Order was founded by St. Norbert in 1121 A.D. and is one of the oldest Catholic orders in the world. The Norbertines serve communities around the world, and their mission is to live in common life and to care for souls through education and the preaching.
    EWTN's Colm Flynn was given a rare look inside St. Michael's Abbey, the newest abbey in the world.

    I actually lived 5 minutes away from the abbey and attended it every weekend with my neighbors because my parents aren’t Catholic, I just moved away a month ago and miss it so much, I will never again experience anything like it. Thanks Francesca and Jake for showing me this abbey and encouraging me to convert to Catholicism, I finish my conversion this year and can’t be more happy!

    I was very blessed to have attended St Michael's College Prep High School 1996-2000 and seen many of these priests develop and grow in their formation. I hope they reopen the school again. I would not have been so grounded in and kept my Catholic faith without their example and teaching. I am so glad they have grown. May God continue to prosper the good work of this order.

      Possibly but you would also have many people of the church, a ton of Protestants saying you don’t need such things to praise God. But maybe we could save more men, which ultimately seeing many strong men would bring more people to God. This country is going down the drain because we have so many weak men.

    It's not the buildings and architecture that we put our main focus on, but Catholicism does have the most inspiring churches, abbeys, cathedrals, artwork, etc. No other Christian denomination in America has what Catholics have when it comes to sheer beauty and the feeling that once inside these holy temples, you automatically feel holier and closer to Jesus than anywhere else other than the Holy Land. If you didn't catch it, Texas A&M just a few weeks ago dedicated a brand new church on their campus in College Station...and it is marvelous.

      Having been acquainted with this particular abbey since they were teachers at my high school and moving forward, I can tell you, that they certainly celebrate the sacraments with great reverence, but make no mistake, they are not clinging to the past, and embracing the radical traditional ideology, rather they are embracing the true intent of Vatican II, which includes retaining substantial elements of Latin in their Novus Ordo Masses and practicing the liturgy of the hours, according to the ancient rites of the Church.

    Communites that remained " traditional" are flourishing. For example the Dominican Sisters of Mary of the Eurcharist. Orders that became "woke" and took off their habits are dying.

      @@tranny5 With such a moniker as yours, it sounds like it's *YOU* that needs to go away, REPENT (including of your "transgenderism"!!!) and spend some serious time grieving over your sins - and then return when you've truly changed totally from what you seem to be nowadays!!
      DOWN with "Vatican II" and ALL Modernism including the current ANTI-Pope "Francis" and go back to the days before 1958 (Pius XII seems to have been the last truly-worthy pope, with Benedict XVI also trying to be of that calibre). If *ever* I were to become a Catholic, it would have to likely be via the SSPX.
      Apparently, Pius XII (Eugenio Pacelli)'s intended successor was meant to be Giuseppe Siri, who in fact had been chosen in the 1958 Conclave and took the name Gregory XVII, but then the vote was annulled somehow or other by the modernists who pushed through Giuseppe Roncalli to become John XXIII instead. Had it been Siri (Gregory XVII), he would have ruled the Romanist Church *FAR DIFFERENTLY* and cleansed it of its heretics like Roncalli (Giovanni-Battista Montini almost certainly would not have had the chance to be made a cardinal, let alone become Paul VI) and all too many others - and after him, Ratzinger would have been able to be a more efficacious and successful Pontiff...

    I'm guessing TLM? Praise the Lord! It helps that they look like angels amongst men in their glorious whites.

    • @nunagoras
      @nunagoras ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not exactly TLM as it was in the "good ole days", but rather a particular use of the Latin Rite just for themselves like with the Dominicans, Benedictines, Discalced Carmelites and a few more. Do not confuse those "traditional" Catholics with those more or less sedevacantist separatist rad trads out there. These ones are deeply in communion with Rome and they don't see themselves as the unique exclusive way of doing Church.

    • @nunagoras
      @nunagoras ปีที่แล้ว

      @SanctusPaulus-ic5gl Because that was the soft tone of the question, sir!... Simply the fact is that it is not, hence I said "not exactly TLM". Some orders do have the right to perform an official "use" of the Latin rite that is quite similar to the TLM. One of those orders is the Dominicans. I had a monastery of them where I lived back in the day with such an "use" of the Latin right like that, and they were very "left leaning" in Church positions to say the very least... And their Masses were always full. So; you're right. The vast majority of "TLM" followers are not sedevacantists... But watch for the question's soft tone, please!...

    • @psallen5099
      @psallen5099 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @nunagoras Actually there are two orders that say the Latin Mass exclusively and are in full communion with Rome. The Priestly Fraternity of St Peter ( FSSP) and the Institute of Christ the King.

      I don’t understand your distinction between Mass in the good ole days and the particular usages such as this which also existed already in the good ole days.
      Also, sedevacantism is extremely rare. Even the SSPX is not sedevacantist.

    St. Michael's Abbey is not only beautiful physically, it is filled with the holiness of God,Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I love attending events there because of that holiness. The Norbetine Priests are so in tune with the true Magisterium of the Church and are vibrant protectors of the Truth of Christ and our Mother Church. Our Parish, St. John the Baptist is run by Priests from the Abbey and they are amazing Shepherds of our families... guiding us through the hazards and temptations of life in California. We love them... Thank you to all the Norbetine Priests and St. Michael's Abbey for not only protecting the faith, but also for shining the warmth and beauty of The Light of Our Lord Jesus Christ upon those of us who need His Truth. We are so blessed to be witness to their spirituality, and to be guided by them in our spiritual journey, through their ministry. If you have the opportunity visit there, you will feel the love of God that is so much a part of the Norbrtines..
