It was Christmas Eve in North America, Christmas Day in Japan in 2021 when we all watched this online stream. It was an amazing experience, since we never knew what was coming next, sometimes not even recognizing the songs until 20 seconds in, and then we didn't even know which members would be playing next. It is a beautiful setting, the band was on fire, Saiki's voice was amazing, Miku's harmonies were the best ever, and the arrangements are off the charts so to speak. What a wonderful gift they made for us all!
When this was available on line at Christmas a few years back. They also included a commentary from the band which was the funniest thing I have heard for a long time. They really were great value. The concert was so memorable.
Cajon means box in Filipino. :P~ (although spelled as kahon) In Spanish box is caja but I think cajon could be an archaic Spanish word. I think Akane-san played cajon mainly in her previous band Mochi to Cheese.
@@TlanImass Remember that Mochi to Cheese started after Band-Maid was formed. It was formed with some members of two bands Band-Maid and Predia, both on the same label. They split in 2015, they released one single "Ame Hare"/"Anata To" - after "Maid In Japan" was released, but before "Brand New Maid".
The original song is from the MAID in Japan album. This acoustic version has such beautiful harmonies, as does the original! Saiki really shines in these acoustic performances!
There's also another acoustic version with just Saiki and Miku from a couple years ago on a radio channel. Unfortunately, I don't think it's on line anymore.

Have seen Akane play the Cajon a couple of times before....Both LIVE...Engadget FES 2014 (Early BAND-MAID)....which is up on YT ....And while apart of "Mochi to Chizu" with Kanami...which is also on YT..At least they were...As these things tend to come and go.
those cajons can get incredibly expensive for a good hand carved one. IF you wanna check out an even more scaled back version of this on your own time, miku and saiki do a short version of forward for their radio show. @@Davey-Boyd I absolutely loved the radio show. I think by some weird twist of fate those 2 are probably the closest friends out of the members in the band, too. Saiki seems to really admire how strong miku is. I could be completely off the mark too though.
@@Leon-yg5gm I think you are right Leon. In a lot of bands these two very strong personalities (band founder/vocalist/lyricist and main frontperson/vocalist) would compete, vie for being 'the star'. Here they don't compete but compliment each other. Opposites in a lot of ways, but double great together. It is really beautiful how they all get on, look after each other and give each other 'space' as musicians/singers/artistes/friends. It shows, and it is inspirational too.
I’ve never heard the studio version either. At the beginning Saiki and Miku are talking about how they haven’t played this sing in a long time. In the earliest days of Band Maid in 2014, they played a 30 minute acoustic set, in which they played “Forward”. Akane played the entire set with that percussion box thing. Miku had a guitar but it was a prop because she had just started learning guitar, so Kanami did the playing. It’s a good performance, they play a nice version of “Thrill”. I did see the early performance on TH-cam somewhat recently, so you might want to check it out.
I have a LIVE version from 2014 at MORPH..They are wearing their early Maid costumes(Saiki and MISA have already dropped the apron)...and Miku is doing her bunny hops..cute!...No idea where I got it from...Didn't even realise I had it!.
This quite an early song by Kanami. I think I'm right in saying the they did perform an acoustic version of it live in 2014 with Akane on Cajon percussion as in this video. There is a video of the early show out there. Just a comment- Miku, so comfortable playing acoustic guitar- so exposed but killing it.
These early ones are not written by Kanami, but by outside writers (everything on their first 2 albums and all but 1 track, the track "alone", on their 3rd album). Kentarō Akutsu wrote this specific one (including the lyrics) with arrangement credits for him and Band-Maid. But I agree about that 2014 version and Miku's performance on this one. They were very green on that 2014 set and Saiki had some trouble hitting her notes as well as she does now, but it is very much worth watching. Forward is probably my favourite track on that performance.
What an amazing present to wake up to on Christmas Day this was...It was pure class......And listening to the ladies commentry was a real treat..hehe!..So very annoyed I didn't buy the CD first time round....That has now be corrected..but still.....The ladies smash anything they put there minds and talent to....Mixing it with differing parings depending on the track...was so cool....No matter who or how many were playing..it was magical...Loved Akane's hair....and watching Kanami's little face as she seemed to wander off into a world of her own while she played was so heart melting.....You can tell this band means so much to her...Even in the beginning when some of the ladies were late for their (I think) first rehearsal. Kanami was pretty upset saying they weren't being serious about the band...If I heard correctly Akane had a go at the others as she wasn't happy that they had upset her friend...They turned up on time after that...Who's gonna argue with a Gorilla!..hehe!.. I have a baseball cap with AKANE : " I am Gorilla" (her quote) embroidered on it..hehe.!..She is my favourite drummer ever...taking the top spot away from Roger Taylor of Queen.

They have no fear. They are confident in their musical abilities and talent. I would love to attend an all acoustic concert by Band Maid.

The percussion instrument is a cajon. Apparently rented for this performance, but Akane said she really wants to buy one like it.
