- Jan and I did the Short lake route of Veneto Gravel, 410km and 1800hm in 5 days. Sun, rain, wind, more wind, thunderstorms but also a lot of laughter with this guy. Had some issues with the Canyon Grizl, the frame is cracked and I managed to snag my bike chain. An unforgetable bike trip though!

Isn't it funny how crappy weather can make the adventure more epic. Even more fun. Great job, chaps.
You might be right, but I could have done with 25 degrees, sun and no wind....🙈😅😂
Great video Maarten - what a trip and what an adventure. I love your sense of humour and the way it comes across in your videos. Very watchable content, sir.
Thanks, mate! I'm the same idiot in the videos as in real life. After being married for over 15 years, my wife appreciates that I now talk to a GoPro instead of her....
What a great video from two very likeable guys. You are the true heroes of cycling. To finish in this terrible weather deserves great respect. I was out after about 350 kilometres and took the train. Best regards from Hannes from Villach/Austria.
Servus Hannes! And thank you very much for your kind words. I always hope that it comes across in my videos that we are just a couple of normal guys who like to laugh about bad jokes 😅 weather was indeed bad and we did discuss the train option, to be honest. I can't blame you for choosing to take the train. Have a great day, Maarten.
Absolutely beautiful ride. 🤘
Thank you! It was amazing!
Sorry you came all the way to Italy to ride in weather you could probably have enjoyed at home ! Hope that some warm Italian food & hospitality made up for it ! Looks like you had a blast all the same 🙂.
Hi mate! Yeah, we still really enjoyed it but man it was cold!
Hey Finisher! Great tour and video. I should definitely put the Veneto Gravel event on my bucket list. Take care, Ronny
Ronny! How have you been, mate? Yeah, this is a fun one, but there are so many more beautiful events. For next year I might try the Torino-Nice rally
Congratulations! I finished on Monday, with torrential rain and headwinds all the way from Lake Garda to the finish. I feel your "suffering". :D
Thanks! Wow, what you did was incredible! That wind and weather was no joke on the Monday. Well done!
Beautiful ride and brilliant video, as always. I can't help but feel that as soon as the camera is off Jan starts waffling and doesn't stop until the camera goes back on. 😄
Mate! How've you been? Thanks! Was an amazing ride and yes, Jan is an amazing guy. We were tears rolling down our faces laughing all the time. A great guy to have as a travel companion!
Very, very nice trip in the country of cycling, as far as the surroundings, roads, food ánd culture is concerned. As you experienced at the shop (“elk nadeel heb z’n voordeel” immers….). Well done 78! I suppose you will return some time 🌤️
I just love Italy for all the things you just mentioned, Wim. This one was amazing again. What an experience. Now time to get my gravel bike properly fixed (the frame cracked and it needs replacing) and then hoping for some good weather over here in the Netherlands!
@@MaartenOverwegWow, that’s serious stuff, replacing the frame…. , but everything for the cycling 👍👍, never give up. And better weather will show up, you will soon notice 😊
Funny Guys! It‘s raining like a motherf… and you have so much fun. It‘s so funny to watch you.
A bit sad that you couldn’t use the new tent.
😅 Thanks, Mario! We had a lot of fun eventhough the weather was a bit crap the final 2 days. Yeah, too bad about the tent. But I have plenty of other trips planned for the coming weeks, so I will definitely use it more. How about you? Have you been out on a trip already?
@@MaartenOverweg Hey Maarten, unfortunately there was no time for a trip yet. Besides that, the weather in Germany wasn’t very good the last weeks. Very cold and lots and lots of rain.
My plan was to go hiking tomorrow with a friend for an overnight stay. But we have to postpone it.
In June we have planned a 10 days off-road tour. I guess than, at the latest, I can use my lovely new tent.
Oh you have plenty of other trips planned for the coming weeks. Sounds very interesting. All trips for a longer time and at an official „race“ like this trip? Have you planned any races/trips in Germany?
@@mariokoch7801 Hi Mario, yeah I know what you mean. I hope spring and summer will come soon! Hoping you have some nice trips coming up!
Great singing though 😂
Thank you! You're the first ever to say that 😅😂
Good video, great adventure. I've left a sub ✌🏻
Thank you very much! I learned about your channel via Pascal too, will definitely have a look and sub. Have a great day, mate!
Me too 😁 Hope you understand the german Language.
@@hobscotch No worries, I can understand German. When forced, I can even speak it a little...but writing in German is just too hard, I would feel so embarrassed 😅🙈
Having done it last year, it's a really beautiful ride, Italy is just superb and the people are wonderful. Thanks for sharing! Another event this year?
Did you also have bad weather? 😅 Italy is the best, really love it. But next events will be in Belgium: Smuggler's path, Le Fabuleux and PlugPlug Taxandria 🥳 How about yourself? Any cool plans?
@@MaartenOverweg As for the weather, I did it in 2 days, as soon as I arrived it was raining like crazy
Hey Maarten, have fun👍. I have the Same shitti Weather in Hoek Van Holland with the Campervan
Hi Markus! Thanks! Ah man....this weather just sucks, doesn't it. I hope you still enjoy your trip! What's your plan? Ride around the Netherlands for a bit?
We're taking a little city trip to Amsterdam and Rotterdam and want to relax a little by the sea. I hope we see each other again for a little adventure
@@markusullersberger5033 Enjoy your trip! And do you have adventures already planned for this year? I have a couple I am going to do. But I also added one for next year: Torino Nice Rally. That one looks very tough, but very beautiful!
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I am new to bikepacking and am intrigued with Veneto Gravel. Did you have a special video ( GoPro, bike mounted video, etc ) or were all of the videos done while holding your cellphone? Great Job!
Thanks Timothy! Veneto gravel was definitely fun, can imagine it's an event you would look into. But there are many, many other beautiful events. Let me know which one(s) you choose!
I use a GoPro on a short selfie stick. I don't like riding with other mounts and hate riding with a chest mount, so I just hold the camera and do my best to stay on the bike 😅
Mate. What a brilliant vlog and epic ride! What happened to your tent, though!? Bit of wet stuff and a breeze, and you're in a hotel dancing on the bar tables, singing Wet Wet Wet songs!😂
Mate! Thanks! I blame Jan for all that, you know I am a simple man who doesn't like all that singing and dancing. But when in Rome...
😂😂😂
Great video, but there’s a lot of talk about weather, food and hotels mate😉
That's the multiday bikepacking life, mate! The only things import are: Are we gonna stay dry and warm? Where are we going to sleep tonight? And most important: WHAT'S FOR DINER! 😂🥳
