    Something that’s not talked about enough is checking with your mobile carrier about their international roaming service before ordering a pocket WiFi or SIM card - so far, I’ve only seen one video advise that. My carrier offers free text and basic data, with upgraded data for $15 a week. Considering I mostly need my phone for Google Maps and some light web scrolling, that’s plenty for me.

      great idea.. what carrier BTW?

    Whether you arrive at Haneda or Narita airport, I highly recommend taking the Airport Limousine Bus into Tokyo. Check online for their various stops in Tokyo. It may cost a bit more but you won't have to lug your baggage, transfer to different trains or get lost in the train station. Buy a ticket in the arrivals lobby after clearing Customs n Immigs. (There might be discounts for round trip tickets, seniors). You're allowed 2 pcs of luggage to go in the bus bay. Board, sit back, enjoy free wifi. There's even a toilet on board.

    • @51941028
      @51941028 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@mishunot. You will need to check their schedule online. I stayed at the Tokyo Hilton Shinjuku and the bus stopped there only at certain times. Also check what train station is nearest to your hotel and see if the bus stops there. You can always take a taxi from that particular stop to your hotel. If you're using USD$ the exchange rate makes the cost manageable.

      My travel agent booked me a Company called "Green Tomato" that had a driver waiting for me at the airport.
      After a 10+ flight, it was a Godsend just to be able to walk into arrivals and have someone standing there with a sign with my name on it to drive me to my hotel. Rather than having to worry about finding the train or bus depot.
      The price was quite reasonable as well, I think it worked out to about 26 dollars.

We got on the wrong train and figured it out after several stops. Hi, I’m doing a connecting flight to Osaka, only have 1 hr and 20 mins, do I go through immigration first and then pick up luggage? Then go to Terminal 2 and go through security and check luggage again?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      HI, correct, if you are arriving via an international flight you will most likely arrive at T3. You will need to clear immigration, collect your luggage and clear customs first, then transfer to T2. This is going to be extremely tight. Therefore, I recommend that you fill out all forms online at visit japan web first. Please be sure that each person in your party is issued a QR Code upon completion of this process. If they do not, the you did not fully complete the forms. This process will save you valuable time. Then I recommend that you study the layout of Terminal 2 so you know exactly where you need to go. Finally, from our experience, taking the monorail is the fastest method to get to T2.
      If possible, I recommend that you change your connecting flight to Osaka to a later time. Good luck!

      Hi. IC cards such as Suica are for paying for local trains and buses. As long as you get one of the 10 major IC cards, it will work most places in Japan. There are some remote areas of Hokkaido that don't accept payment by IC card. Here's our video on this topic: th-cam.com/video/mZqrVpQLRbk/w-d-xo.html
      For bullet train tickets you can purchase them at JR ticket offices, from ticket vending machines, or online. For those arrival very late at night, i.e.: closer to midnight, is the taxi into Tokyo and to surrounding western "suburbs" the only option, or, does the monorail and train lines still operate till the early hours of the morning? I have one question, that I hope you can answer🙂 I have red that you can top up the Suica card to 20 000 yen, but since the balance is already 500 yen when you purchase it, does that mean you only can top it up with 19 500 yen more, or is it additioal 20 000 yen?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the balance cannot exceed 20,000 but I do not know if it has a hard stop programmed into the card or not. But the 500 yen is a deposit, so you might be able to add a total of 20,000.

      Hi, most travelers spend 3-5 days in Tokyo while some spend a month and still haven't seen everything they came for :) But it really depends on what you want to see and do. So think about that and how long it will take you to get from point A to point B for the places you want to see as it often takes longer than planned.

      Hi, I should have been extra clear about this in the video but things can change!
      As of mid February 2024 you can buy both Welcome SUICA and PASMO Passport at both Haneda and Narita Airports in Tokyo. If you want to purchase the regular SUICA or PASMO IC cards you can do that at Tokyo Station. There are other places where IC cards are available but what I listed is definite, at least for now.

    Thanks for the info. My family will be flying into Haneda from Hawaii with a connecting flight to Sapporo in October. Flying with JAL on both flights. I have a few questions. Will we need to collect our check-in luggage before proceeding thru customs, and then catch our connecting flight? And should we purchase our Suica cards at Haneda or can we do it at New Chitose airport? I'm trying to figure out how much time to give for our layover at Haneda before getting to Terminal 1 for a connecting flight to Sapporo. Mahalo!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We also flew JAL both legs. Yes, we collected our luggage at Haneda and transferred to a different terminal before checking our luggage for our flight to Sapporo. If you want to get a Welcome SUICA card you should get it at Haneda. It’s possible to buy a SAPICA card in Sapporo, but it may not be as widely accepted across Japan as SUICA. It would work in Hokkaido, though.
      Be sure to be aware of luggage allotment for your flight within Japan, as it may be less than your flight from Hawaii. Here’s some packing tips regarding that:

      If both flights are on JAL, take advantage of the JAL Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter. Go through immigration, pick up your bags, and go through customs. As soon as you enter the arrival hall, walk a couple hundred feet to the right, and it will be on your left. You can check in and drop off your check-in luggage there for your connecting JAL flight to Sapporo. You won't have to take your check-in bags on the shuttle and check in at Terminal 1.

  • @myamadadds
    @myamadadds 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If you are catching a connecting flight on JAL or ANA, have you ever considered using the JAL or ANA Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter to check in and drop off your check-in luggage? As soon as you enter the arrival hall, walk a couple hundred feet to the right, and they will be on your left. We used it on a recent trip where we caught a connecting JAL flight to Nagoya in Terminal 1. It saved taking your check-in bags on the shuttle and checking in at Terminal 1. This was after a HNL to HND flight on JAL.
    In May, we plan to fly to HND on Hawaiian Air and catch a connecting JAL flight to Sapporo at Terminal 1. The question is: Can we use the JAL Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter if we fly into HND on Hawaiian Air? We have called JAL and the Haneda Information Center several times and have received conflicting information. It sounds like it may be up to the discretion of the JAL agent there. Have you heard anything about this?

    • @emikami1
      @emikami1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you are allowed to use the JAL domestic transfer counter since you're connecting to a JAL domestic flight. As a backup plan in the off chance that they say no at the transfer counter, stop by the visitor center to get a free monorail transfer ticket by showing your boarding pass. At the payment gate for the monorail, you may not notice any person present. To the left of the gate, ring the mechanical bell (like the bell used at a hotel desk)--a person should check your ticket and let you through the payment gate. After you reach terminal 1, you need to surrender your monorail ticket to exit the monorail area. It's a bit faster and usually less crowded than the free terminal transfer bus that anyone can use.

      Hi, the garden is a good option! Many shops will open by 6am. I asked about the regular Suica in early February 2024 and the JR office at HND said it was currently not available at HND. They recommended visiting the office at Tokyo station where it is for sure available. She also mentioned a particular machine at Tokyo station but I don’t remember the location. But since this was a couple of weeks ago you might want to ask the JR office at HND if they are now available.
      And thanks about Charles Schwab, sorry we are very slow to respond to emails as we get so many. Currently, Schwab only offers referrals if customers are making huge deposits but we greatly appreciate you asking😀

    Got some tips from your video but my question is we’re flying into Haneda Airport Terminal 3 on JAL from the USA and traveling to Sapporo on JAL domestic flight from Terminal 1, From what I heard we have to go to the foreign arrivals area just like everyone else and clear immigration and customs then pickup our luggage. I heard that outside the Arrivals area there’s a JAL domestic luggage drop off area to bring our luggage, do you know where it’s located? I also heard it’s faster to catch the Keikyu Line to Terminal 1 because there’s always a long line with the free shuttle service. Seems like JAL made our layover only about 1 hour 35 minutes which is pushing it. If you can assist us with what you know it’ll be greatly appreciated.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Aloha, after you clear immigration and customs, you enter the arrival hall turn right and go all the way to the end of the hall and you will see the Domestic Transfer counters. If they are not open, you will see the elevators or escalators that will take you downstairs where you can check-in. Taking the Keikyu or Monorail is debatable so choose which you think is faster depending on the time of day you will arrive. The last time we took this exact same route on JAL was in February. We arrived at 8:00 am and when we boarded the monorail there was no line. So it really depends on the time of day.
      Since you are short on time, please choose to fill out your forms online, it will save you a precious few minutes.
