      Apologies for the confusion. My statement was ambiguous. It was in response to enjoying pumping his own gas. I meant that everyone else does enjoy pumping their own gas. They are FORCED in New Jersey (and I think Oregon as well) to have an attendant pump their fuel. And my statement that everyone enjoys (or at least the vast majority prefer) pumping their own fuel based on the near extinction of full service stations whenever people are given the option.

    Serious question: Why are you/paramotor pilots so afraid of turbulence and wing colapses? I just started paragliding and learned that its completly normal and managable for paraglider pilots if it dosent get too strong. In my training i also learned how to deal with colapses and the trainer said its completly normal to get colapses. Are paramotors way more sensetive to that stuff? Always wondered. You don’t need him for that...plenty of vids created.
      Training and new gear.
      10-14k
      Cost per flight hour about 5 bucks
      Have a side budget for maintenance, like 500.00 in case something breaks or you break it. I am at 50 hours on my own gear..not cost a dime as yet. Other than a couple spark plugs.

    • @terryhorlick679
      @terryhorlick679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw Paramotors flying at AirVenture 2018 and then Tucker’s videos last year. Having just completed my training ($2,000) I found gear and great deal trades to end up with paramotor, wing, trike, and reserve for about $5,500 total. So it can be safely done at about $8K! Little goofs on launching and landing have cost me three props and repairs to the equipment... most done by myself in my home shop. Figure another $1,000 for repairs. Only other thing I think is needed is a handheld VHF and an Android tablet (Avair doesn’t run on an iPhone) and you are set.
      On my used set-up I have already swapped out carburetors then a whole engine. So cost keeps going up.
      You cannot figure on finding deals when you need them. So I figure you have a $10k nut to crack then you end up with gear that has half it’s life expectancy used up. So going with all new stuff and outsourcing repairs more like $16k IMHO.

    I've never been able to work it out from the videos - the yellow steering handles, you often attach them to the other lines when you're not holding them.
    1) Do they have to be attached for flying reasons, or is it just to the handle is easy to get to again?
    2) What keeps them attached? The ease of attaching/unattaching makes me think magnets?

    • @alextownsend6662
      @alextownsend6662 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yellow handles are the “brakes”. You stow the handles so they are there when you need them. They are generally held in place by magnets. If you don’t stow the brakes, worse case scenario they can get sucked into your prop. Game over.

    Tucker, video idea for you!
    Now that Flight Simulator 2020 is out you should recreate your best paramotor flights on the sim and compare and contrast features. Maybe call the video “My Best Paramotor Flights on Flight Simulator 2020”

    Ok so if I want to get into this in Colorado. Is the ozone mojo still the safest wing? Is the tornado 280 a good reliable motor? And is there anything out there so yr feet don’t just dangle?

    Btw. I'm a skydiver and not used to thermalling etc. I'm not familiar with a paramotor aswell. As I understand a paraglider does the same as a parachute by pulling the handles. Pull more right and you turn right and vice versa. But it's something about some A, B & C lines on the paraglider, do you pull those to get altitude? or how does a paraglider with paramotor gain altitude? I can't see any flaps on the glider :-D
    I never beg, but do you by any means have a nice starter paramotor I can buy for a decent amount of money?

    Just fyi some?/all? prisons get really nervous about people flying near / over them (potential for dropping contraband in). Their property may extend much further than you might imagine visually. In Florida competitions we have had people unknowingly land "in" the prison before.

    When I'm flying in early day thermals without a motor it's a similar paranoia. I know there will likely be lift or ridge to save me but not being within glide of a tree-free zone isn't very comfortable and it's a gamble, but I'll do it anyway ..chances are... ;)

    Yeah one's gotta trust their gear. Don't know har far into it you guys go but I know every single bolt and cable of my drone because I built it myself.
    And that's important because I know exactly when anything isn't right. I can hear, feel, see if anything is not in order and I know at any time how much trust I can put in my gear.
