Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

I really needed this video today. Today I was depressed and really anxious about where and house to purchase a small place for myself. I appreciate the Biblical wisdom and forget to ask God for help and wait on him.
    My sincere thanks.🌷

We have done much the same as you, except we are going to sell our house here first and live in our RV while we house hunt for the next place God would have us. So looking forward to getting back to country life.

Could consider renting your current home and rent in the area you plan to move to. You really don't know what your getting into till you've lived in the area for a while. Don't forget to consider things like access to helth care. In TN and Arkansas most specialized care are only available in large cities. We also looked at weather conditions, from tornadoes to hurricanes, to earth quakes to air/soil quality like radon. To living near a nuclear plant... Even your insurance cost. We live 3 miles from a fire station, but are considered high risk for complete loss of home, so they charge us more. Look at land and grocery taxes. Even if you pay cash for a property always pay for an inspection, to much risk without it... If you are wanting to homestead look at living outside city limits... Less rules and restrictions. Have a source of water on the property be it a pond and, yr round creek, or stream, or river...

Yea, we sold a farm in Arkansas and bought land in Colorado. At first we considered retiring to the farm in Arkansas but there was nothing but farm land around there, we had to drive over an hour to the nearest hotel and almost that far to the nearest store that wasn't also a gas station. We had been leasing the farm so it was conventionally farmed that meant no organic growing could be done on it without hundreds of thousands of dollars in soil reclamation and years waiting to plant the first seed. The lady who bought it wanted it for a hunting property so she didn't care about the soil.

We moved to the Ozarks from Florida about 4 months ago and you aren’t kidding about the rocky soil. We had to make raised garden beds for planting our food. We found our property on Zillow. Best move we’ve ever made. Great video!

My adult son and I purchased 7 acres of grid. The nearest power pole is at least 1.5- 2 miles away. We have been here 4 weeks. We have been clearing dead brush piles for fire wood. Collecting the useable logs and debarkng them for future use. Started to collect pallets for constructing a tiny house for the winter. This has been my dream for years! God has moved us around for the last 3 yrs. It got to the point where we could not afford to rent in Mi. Any longer. Found this property by following an online realtor for several yrs. Small down payment that was cheaper than a month's rent. Smaller monthly payments for 15 years. This truly off grid pioneer living. Cutting fire wood with an axe, and a machete. ( Don't have a gas powered chainsaw yet) Up at 4:30 - 5:00am It starts to get light out at about 5:30 am Go out start a fire, make a pot of coffee. Cowboy style. No perky perk, or dripping drip. Just water in the pot 2 big Tbsp of coffee let it boil till the foam goes away. Breakfast is meat and fruit or bread.
Go to bed at about 8pm tired! We haul our water from town 10 miles away. Right now we have to buy all of our food from a local groc. store. Or travel 30 miles to the nearest city in Arkansas to shop at a Wal-Mart. YUCK!!! I bought my piece of heaven on earth at 2:00 am. Paid with my debit card! God has truly blessed us. I have never seen so many rocks on one piece of land in my whole 61 yrs. Ha, ha, ha!!
Not much topsoil here will have to haul a lot of cow manure to compost for gardening. In between harvesting all of these free ROCKS! The views!! The rocks!
The stars at night!! Oh My Goodness!!
Thank God for all of his blessings!!!

I'm even more excited that I stumbled on to your Channel about 2 months ago and have been watching regularly particularly because just now I had to pause the video to make this comment my excitement lies in the fact that you are giving God credit and acknowledging God in your plans and trusting him to reveal and unfold to you his plan for you. Reminds me of the scripture that says man devises his plan but God directs his step.
Thank you guys so much for everything that you do to share your journey with us and anyone that is following God in their Journey is of great interest to me.
Now if the Lord can only bring around a homesteading mindset God fearing God pursuing man into my world so that I can leave the city and go to the homestead too... I'm still hoping but I'm 58 years old my hope is a challenge to maintain. Pray for me.

Lightsobrite, why wait for a man? Are you fairly healthy? A partner is nice but not necessary. I'm a 61 yr. old god fearing disabled man. God moved my adult son and I here from Eastern Mi.. It's a lot of work every day. But we are so happy! Can hardly wait for next spring! Get my chickens and Guineas.
Get my greens garden started. We miss fresh peas, and green beans, and tomatoes!
Well it's almost 9pm, sitting in my truck when I should be in bed with my big dog. He keeps my feet warm! But likes his blanket on cold nites.
Keep praying. God will answer you.

I have about a dozen tabs open when searching for a homestead. Zillow, LandandFarm, Google maps, Google Earth to get an idea of elevation/terrain, and an FCC map for high-speed/no-cap internet areas. I check Gmap for the closest Lowe's/Home Depot, Feed store, Hospital, Urgent Care, and then less important things like Restore, Goodwill, Costco, Movie Theater or amusements.
My biggest problem is I see the potential in everything! I can look at a carport and see it being a home :P Most important to me is the land. But YES I trust that God will provide my family with abundant sacred space when the time is right. I would also suggest getting a pre-qualification letter so when the right place does appear - you don't lose it to someone else.
And OMG - I would be freaking out about those ticks. I'd have to cut out the part of the video where I was running around stripping all my clothes off. Lime's disease is soooo scary!!
God Bless you guys for sharing and keeping us all inspired xox

To many people are scared to take the leap. the best advice I have is dont overthink it just do it! Good advice. I also believe you must pray for guidance. I prayed and the next morning, a property I wanted became available again. I also received money I didn't expect. Next , I got in touch with the owner of the place and paid for the property. You R right, some people over think this. I lost a chance to buy this property once, I wasn't gonna lose it again. If it turns out not to be perfect. I'll work the land anyway. It'll still be my land!

I’m from Midwest originally came here healthy and have developed health problems most likely due to the high elevation. We’ve been here 5 years but at almost 8,000 ft elev is too much. Lots and lots of free range chickens will tame that tick problem for you quite a bit. You'll lose some to predators that way, but it's better to get the Lyme disease danger lowered than lose a few chooks. I'm more than happy in the Blue Ridge of PA, farms and forests, so beautiful. God told me to stay put and bloomed where he planted me in 1998. Best of luck and God bless your family .

GREAT VIDEO AND I AM A MISSOURIAN ALSO. YOU ARE 100% where I live in a Farmington area and some row crops but mostly pasture land. ROCK ROCKS are In allot of areas you cant dig a hole 3 inches deep. Real estate people just want to sell it and make their money .. Another big thing is water well that can be very costly. About 10 miles from my home is solid granite you might drill 300 to 1000 feet and no water or you might hit water and its just a pocket of water in between two ledges and you will run out of water. So be careful as you mention on your video. Another thing is crime breakins and hospitals are they good or bad some in my area are horrible and churches Many things to look at and be careful very careful when buying land in any state. my home is In Farmington Mo

This is something we've been thinking about for years. Saw someone's videos recently where they took up a used RV to travel nearly every state. My husband has worked for 20 years so I can stay at home and care for & teach the kids = no vacations, so the idea of taking a year to see the country & hopefully fall in love for our forever home is so very tempting! & yes, that idea of one spouse taking quick, cheap recon trips to locations also occurred to us before we started toying w/ the RV idea. I love watching homesteading videos these days - dream building, but also seeing a more realistic side to it. Thanks for all of your videos & work!!

Great one! I don't want to be patient! 😂. My husband and I have been out to the general area we're looking at twice, trying to go once in each season because we're from Southern California and pretty much only have one season. ;). But we still haven't settled on a specific city. I think that's the hardest part for me right now,...not knowing exactly which city.

Great info..took me 3 years. And the good thing more money saved in that time. Patience is a CHALLENGE. But I knew if it was meant to be then it will be God Willing. We looked at a few places that yikes. Photos are deceiving. Great info y'all

so neat, i just found out today in my research, where we want to go the soil is slightly acidic...not good for hardwoods but some can thrive. I noticed just evergreens and was wondering why which lead me to find the answer. Good stuff, there is so much one needs to do up front, their map recon and then the boots on the ground recon, which we plan on doing late summer....glad to see we are on target.

Did you ever consider Tennessee or Kentucky? I think a few homesteaders on YT are from Tennessee, and the tax climate there sure is appealing!

We bought our raw land sight unseen and yes that can be very bad. Once we had funds and time off we left AZ to go see it and found out how hilly, rocky but still very beautiful like your wooded area behind you. So we will take the bad with the good. But I agree with you guys...if you can you should look at it b4 you buy it. Also we will be getting Guineas as well once we get to our land. You guys are doing what we have been dreaming for years and we are almost there! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for making this video. My spouse and I plan on having a small homestead after we retire in a few years. We want to move very far away, bc we currently live in a very pricy real estate state. So, we will have to find land in a low-cost real estate state and have a small mortgage loan or none at all. This will help us on our quest.

Good advice. Missouri is a pretty diverse state; north of the Missouri River gets you better soil & fewer ticks. 😉

You are right about a realtor being a sells person. We explained to a realtor in Montana exactly what we wanted, made a trip to look at properties, and not one was anything like we wanted. We are now in Oklahoma. Just bought a home, and was surprised at the number of people, who are buying homes, site unseen. That is so scary.

So glad you mentioned God's timing, and God's will. My daughter moved her family from California to Michigan after living in California all her life. I have 3 years until I retire. Lord willing, I too, will be able to relocate to Michigan. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain your journey.

As for ticks, they love dead leaves so you guys were sitting in tick central. Great video and LOVE the Ozarks. Best part of the country.

Mr. Arnold, you are right about the ticks. Dead leaves, tall grasses. You have to keep the grasses cut fairly short, and the leaves cleaned up. Even a gas powered weed whacker and leaf blower will work wonders for tick control! Cut the weeds and grasses down and compost with the leaves.

We are looking now but can't purchase for about six weeks. God's will in this journey is the most important! Thankfully we are looking about an hour from where we live. Sadly our dream property just went off the market but does not look like it sold, once we have the money we will check to see if it sold. We are going to check out everything! Thanks for sharing this.

A lot of people buy land sight unseen up here in Alaska. Alaska is beautiful but we have a lot of marshes and wetlands and most of the land that is cheap you cannot get in your car and drive to it, you will need to fly to or use an ATV, boat or snow machine to get to it.
