We had a humanist ceremony for our grandson; it was a great day all about the child, I can't recommend them highly enough

Yes! Incredible and beautiful ritual, I wish all Humanist children to have it.

The ceremony was lovely less remote in fact from the standard Christening. Elsie's family and friends shared her special day!

I enjoyed watching that... recognising our humanity and love for our children, without the supernatural silly bits.

Could you please tell me the name of the poem about a second child, sounds like it's just what I'm looking for. Thank you. 🙂

I know it might be a little late, but I found it! As far as I can tell, it's only on one website in the world and that's a mom forum.
      Found this on mumsnet.com/Talk/parties_celebrations/502898-naming-ceremony-readings
The Second Time Around' by R Styles
      You forget, don't you?
That moment when you thought -
and maybe even whispered 'Never again!'
You forget just how tiny they are when they're born.
      Everybody says so.
You forget that they don't do much to start off with
      - except the never-ending routine of bodily functions.
First time round this was a relief
Giving time for much needed rest and recuperation.
No such luck the third time around
With other children rushing around demanding attention.
Everybody says it is not the same with the second or third baby
And in a way they are right
      You've done it before
You know what to expect - more or less!
      And yet they are wrong
Because although it's not the same
      It's every bit as special
Because yet again, you have a unique child
And no matter how hard you try to treat your children the same
They'll grow up to be different individuals.
And love is just as sweet
      The third time around.

When there is a naming of a child and no mention of our Lord Jesus I feel sorry for the kids, wow I never thought something like that could go on without Jesus getting one mention but obviously humanist morals are in decay when gay marriage is the normal, I've never been to a gay marriage but I suppose Jesus gets no mention in a gay marriage ceremony either and if he does surely it's sarcasm, I'm worried for the future you humanists are creating for our children where Jesus doesn't get a look in xxx

You have never been to a gay wedding and yet you feel you have the authority to comment on what goes on during them. What arrogance. Not only are you arrogant. But you are also ignorant and seem to wish to remain so. A simple Google search would have seen you find out that there are different types of gay marriage ceremonies, including an Episcopal one during which the Christian God and Jesus are recognised should the couple wish to have that in their lives. I worry about a future filled with judgmental, holier-than-thou people like you who think they are better than everyone else when in fact they are blinded by their beliefs, creating barriers among humans.

Most cultures around the world have ceremonies and only the Christian ones mention Jesus. You don't even have to go back that far before Christians didn't do this. Look at your Jesus, did he have a Christening? Of course not. He had a brit milah, which cuts the baby boys penis and it becomes the most holy object. Don't you feel sad that Christenings don't involve blood dripping from the baby? Humanists are marking and celebrating a momentous moment in their lives. The birth of a child is amazing and we won't to do it in the most beautiful and fitting way.
I would not want my child being harmed in any way, so circumcision is out of the question. I would want it to be about truth and facts, not about belief or religion. What is true is the love for the newborn and the facts are they are part of the family. So speeches about life, love and family would be my theme.
