    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Jessica looked at everyone around her; cramped all in one small space with no leg room to move. She sighed - it was going to be a long flight, but as soon as she found her seat, she tensed up a little more. That day she knew she would be uncomfortable but did not expect how uncomfortable. As she started to make her way into the seat, a man came straight towards her and would not let her sit down. She had no idea why, but as soon as he opened his mouth, she knew, and she had to do something in return.

      It's been proven clinically that a person helping another person has a release of endorphin in their brain and they physically feel better. In addition, a person just witnessing someone else helping someone also has a release of endorphin in their brain and they also feel physically better. So what you said is in fact true.

    Years ago when I was stationed in England in the Air Force my Dad passed away. I was 20 years old and devastated. I was flying home back to Texas for the funeral and shortly after the flight took off from London, the flight attendant came over and asked me to grab my things and come with her.....she took me to first class and said have a seat. I sat down and cried. It made me feel so appreciated and proud to be in the military. I am 53 years old now and still miss my Dad like it was yesterday.

    As a military veteran I've received so much kindness from many people and there just aren't words to express my appreciation. One incident happened when I was dining at a local restaurant. When I requested my bill the waiter informed me my meal had been paid for by a lady who had already departed. To her and the many who have made my journey in uniform so meaningful, THANK YOU.

    This reminds me of what happened to me many years ago. In 1973 I was an Army Staff Sergant stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. My father died and I was going home for his funeral. When I got to the airport in Frankfort, I found that there was not an empty seat on the plane I needed to take to D.C. About 5 minutes later, a full Col.stepped off the plan, walked up to me, saluted me and said go home to be with your family son. He hugged me and walked over to the waiting room to wait for a later flight.

    • @reb1225
      @reb1225 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the Army sent you to the airport with a ticket for a seat on a plane that didn't exist?! WOW! And if it was military transport, then your emergency leave takes priority over all others on the plane and you are guaranteed a seat. So it wasn't a kind gesture, it was a requirement.

    Being a veteran myself, I cannot express how much it means to vets and service members when someone, at the least, acknowledges their existence. I would die for this country, then and now. Sacrifices like that aren't difficult for us, but they're not a simple choice to make. Peace.

      This is just another real good feel good story designed to illicit your emotions. I'm sick of how military personnel have been treated over the years. During the hippie years they were so despised they were cursed at and spit upon at the airports. Today there's this politically correct nonsense to treat ALL of them as heroes. Both of them are just as wrong.
      I served in the Navy and was an Army brat growing up. And this might come as a surprise to most, but we have HUMAN beings serving in the Military. Some are heroes true but there are also thieves, rapist, embezzlers, etc etc. in all branches of the service too. Some people are smart, others are semi retarded. Some work hard others are lazy. Some people lay down their lives for their fellow shipmates etc. Some just look for a way to cheat the system. Most of them are somewhere in between.
      Not to mention in today's political atmosphere most service men don't wear their uniforms off base. With the exception of "Military towns" most people you see in uniform are either recruiters or are stealing valor and pretending to be in the military. Can you imagine giving some D-Bag pretender a free meal ?!?

I have also experienced a great deal of admiration and courtesy when traveling in other countries, particularly the Middle East. I was in the airline business for 33 years and have seen the sort of kindness many times. It really warms your heart to see someone go out of their way to make a complete stranger have a better day. The best story I can remember was when a middle-aged and very overweight women that was sitting in coach was loudly complaining to the flight attendant that she needed more room. Sitting next to her was a young and very pregnant young lady that never said a word and even though she was being crowded out by the other woman. The flight attendant apologized and said she would see what she could do. She asked the lady to stand in the aisle for a minute and then asked the young mother to also stand and move towards the aisle. The fussing lady sure was surprised when the flight attendant moved the young lady to first-class and told the other woman that was the best she could do for her to have more room. The other passenger applauded.

    I was on a flight from El Paso to Chicago. I am a 73 year Veteran of the Vietnam war and my legs don't work so good. My seat was in the back of the aircraft so it took me a few minutes to walk the distance. A person behind me was complaining about my slow pace when another person stood up and told the person to "shut the hell up". The person that spoke up for me knew I was a Veteran because I had a small 1st Cav. Div. pin on my jacket collar along with the Vietnam Campaign ribbon. Several people started clapping and I never felt so proud in a long time.

I am appalled at the disrespect she has to endure while wearing her police uniform--if she's riding the Metro or whatever, she has to put on a sweater in 89° heat to "hide" her uniform. For me I gave up my first class seat for my best friend and she was so confused when the flight attendant called her name. After the plane landed she expressed her sincere thanks saying that she just had the best flight ever that she will never forget. :) I felt so happy about it and today I smile after reading this, It reminds me...

    In the late 70's I was assigned to a remote post in Australia, back then we were still required to travel airport to airport in uniform. I did 2 of my 3 R&Rs from Vietnam in Australia. My 1st. R&R from Vietnam was to Hawaii. Australia was much better! Great people and not out for that tourist buck every time you turned around like in Hawaii. I actually was taken home from the bar my cabby recommended. (and drove me there free!) Barkeep bought my 1st round and several ladies bought the rest. One of the ladies invited me home with her and we drove (in her car) to her place and she became my tour guide for the rest of my R&R. 2nd R&R in Australia, same thing happened (with a different lady because the one from my first visit had moved far across the country for a job.)

    This sort of thing can be contagious. When I was at an airport bar waiting for a flight, 3 Marines came in and took a table, and I overheard one say, "we might as well have a few drinks - we won't be partying in Baghdad." I told the waitress to put their first round on my tab. One of them thanked me and the guy next to me grabbed some menus and said, "Get yourselves a good meal - on me." They were still there when I had to board, but while I was there, at least two other men at the bar told the waitress not to let them pay for anything - they'd get it. One small act of kindness, and suddenly, a bunch of people were piling on. I hope they had a good time.
