That “you got the touch” moment had me literally laughing out loud 😂
The tire crushing megatron followed by “you got the touch “ made me laugh out loud
Indeed. I used to make jokes about that sort of thing back then since there would be a massive difference in size between the different robots.........had they not magically changed size in the cartoon. I knew it was silly but loved it anyway. The toys were cool. The cartoon was rather silly, though it matured after the movie.
I was drinking water when that popped up. I spit it all out while laughing. 😂
“Does Prime die?”
God, I remember that line like it was yesterday.
It haunts me to this day.
"What is the secret of the monster planet?" as it shows Unicron transforming.
Yep, i remember in the trailer
I remember seeing that commercial while sitting alone in my parents’ basement after school to watch Transformers, per my daily ritual of the time. I also remember the “does Prime die?” line with the accompanying image of Prime falling backward. Seeing this video is the first time I’ve seen the commercial since it originally aired.
I was okay with Optimus Prime terminating, and I thought it was stupid to bring him back in, "The Return of Optimus Prime". It was like Mr. Spock's death in Star Trek - only temporary, until they decide to resurrect him.
@@pigs18 Notice it was strange that the "monster planet" was a transformer, but not the Ark? Nor was the Nemesis, Axilon, or Darksyde.
"Uncle Gun-Robo" is my new favorite name for Megatron EVER.
I think Dan should start saying "Frank 'Uncle Gun-Robo' Welker" from now on.
My first Transformer was Perceptor. A gift from my parents. A transforming microscope wasn't my first choice but I still loved it.
I don’t care what you say, the original “the Transformers” movie theme song by Stan Bush still gives me chills.
I was a sophomore in high school still watching Transformers cartoons. The movie hit me hard with the death of prime.
The transformer movie was the first time I felt remorse for a tv character. At 10 years old, it was a experience I’ll never forget.
I'm willing to bet the movie prepared you for adult concepts like death in later life.
@@ScottFunk-us6rohow much would you wager tho
I didn't know about Transformers until Christmas 1984 when I was given Starscream and Sunstreaker. Been hooked on G1 ever since.
I know this is a re-upload, but I love this video so much that I watched the entire thing all over again anyway.
That was the best live action Transformers movie yet!! Bravo!
Try as I might, I simply cannot relate to anyone so upset by the movie. I was 10 years old when my older brother graciously took me to the theatre opening weekend, and… yes I was traumatized watching my favorite characters getting blown to hell. But I also thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. This film opened the door and beckoned to me from a darker world of storytelling. Suddenly actions had consequences! I devoured the soundtrack, the movie/sticker-book, and anything else I could find.
Eventually I wore out my local video store's VHS copy due to countless viewing, rewinding, pausing, and frame by frame analysis.
I was obsessed.
To me Prime had died sacrificing himself to protect his family. I never wanted him back. I wanted his death to have meaning in a 4:3 world intent on selling me sugary breakfast cereal.
Ultimately, though I faithfully watched every episode without fail, and could recite the dialogue and narration verbatim, I think even my precocious 10 year old self knew deep down that Transformers was merely an empty saccharine children's show - and quite frankly, terrible.
Transformers The Movie attempted to raise the bar, leave childish things behind, and shepherd the franchise into maturity… and after shedding tears for Prime and the others, I followed it.
This is exactly how I feel. I saw the movie in theaters when I was 11, and like you I was shocked, surprised and sad to see all my favorites especially Prime die, but loved that fact that the movie really seemed like a real movie, and not some rehash of the show. It had consequences, it had meaning and it had emotion. I don't understand the people that disliked it for those very reasons, it was not speaking down to us but instead speaking to us.
I was maturing at the time and I felt that Transformers was growing with me.
I cried when Prime died but I loved that banging soundtrack.
Same here... I was surprised they killed Optimus, but I was genuinely interested in Rodimus Prime. They seemed to kind of "nerf" him quite a bit in the subsequent season of the show. Not nearly as cool as in the movie.
Thanks. I think Robotech is essentially what happened to me too. I was going to mention Robotech too, but thought I was rambling. Seeing Robotech's dramatic and intelligent narrative unfolding each morning over a cereal bowl before the bus came illuminated how empty Transformers truly was. I mean, don't misunderstand me, it was giant transforming robots shooting at each other - of COURSE I was going to watch. But it was a guilty pleasure, not a passionate affair. The movie is as close as Transformers ever got to Robotech. As they traveled the galaxy I was afraid for our heroes for the FIRST TIME. (I mean, that Quintesson planet, AM I RIGHT? Who knew what the hell might happen to them there? Guilty or Innocent? COME ON!!!) And we SHOULD be worried. It's a movie. It should change the game. Up the stakes.
I didn't make that connection to consequences and I was deeply wounded...but I was younger than you when it came out.
That said, it was still instantly my favorite movie and the eighties and nineties were filled with me trying to find copies in video rental stores whenever I could.
My first Transformers toy was Bluestreak. As such, I've had a lifelong love for the Datsun 280ZX.
RESPEC!!
Ah, the movie shattered me as a kid.
My first Transformers were Starscream and Jazz. Still my favorites to this day.
I'm willing to bet the movie prepared you for adult concepts like death in later life.
My interest in The Transformers certainly died with Optimus Prime. I didn’t realise it at the time as I kept asking my parents for more toys but it was never the same after the movie and I eventually realised that (and moved on to the Ninja Turtles).
My first Transformer was Thundercracker, and I believe he was the only one I ever had to resort to the manual to transform (I couldn’t work out the arms being in his chest, I thought they must be loose somewhere in the box). After that it became something of a matter of pride for my 6 year old self to always work out how to transform them myself.
I still think the Transformers are the best toys ever, they’re fast cars and jet planes that transform into giant fighting robots. What’s not to love about that? I even think they’re just a little bit educational in figuring out how to transform them.
You should try transforming the Masterpiece Transformers. Now there's a real brain teaser!
Season 4 is the best. Most grown up
I couldn't see Transformers: The Movie in 86 so I had to wait until it came out on video (which took a lot longer than movie releases to blu ray do today). In early 1987 my dad had an aneurysm and took six months to die. That was pretty much the abrupt end to my childhood but, late in 87, I decided to buy Transformers: The Movie on video to try to claw back some semblance of my childhood. Hoo-boy, what a mistake that was! Well, you can imagine how seeing all the autobots murdered onscreen went down with me. I can actually laugh about it now but, back then, it was like someone coming into the house and burning all my toys in front of my eyes.
Weirdly enough, I found myself watching the movie over and over and wondering why I began to feel it weirdly comforting. It wasn't the same as the '20 minute story with instant reset' that He Man, She Ra, Thundercats, BraveStarr, Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors, etc kept telling. This was a story with consequences and things would be very different going forward. I finally realised that it kind of helped me get things into perspective with my own life. At the end of the movie - even though many of the heroes are dead and the world of the survivors was shattered - the remaining autobots vowed to continue fighting. It felt as if I wasn't the only one that was having a shit time and that you could look forward to getting on with life. As an adult, I can now appreciate the movie for the quite mature attitude it took to telling its admittedly dark story.
"A Robotech Valkyrie or a Macross Veritech." I see what you did there.
When I heard that, I thought maybe it was my own memory that was faulty.... haha.
Technically Transformers is based on 3 Japanese toy lines
The scene with the re-imagined Optimus vs Megatron and roll credits was hilarious! LOL'd my ass off.
Prowl, my first one and will always be my favorite. I was in tears when he died 5 minutes into the movie.
He was 2nd in command if I remember rightly
@@chloemorgan9098 i believe you might be right but i remember Ironsides being second in command as well . I bet they did not keep track . So the question is ( Is it cannon?) Lol sorry i know it has nothing to do with this but its fun to say lol
@@isabellenicoleherman6816 Ironside? Haha I think his name was Spike lol

I wish my History Classes had been this interesting !
PREPFORIT , you're not the only one! Analog Toys also does great Toy Reviews.
Totally agree!
When I saw Transformers The Movie in theaters as a kid, I was severely traumatized by Optimus Prime's death...as well as all the other random Autobots that bought the farm...and I was (and still am) Pro-Decepticon. I'm 43 with a 6 yr old son and we have watched the entire original series multiple times since I own it on DVD but I'm going to wait till he's a little older before we watch the movie. I don't want to put him in The Nut House just yet. Another great episode sirs! Thank you. :)
One of the best Transformers I ever had was a Deluxe Insecticon named Barrage. He was a green and yellow rhino beetle and the complexity in his transformation was AMAZING! I had a real appreciation of the amount of work that went into that design.
My very first Transformer was Prowl. So, of course seeing him killed off in the movie was a very traumatic experience for me. I'm still haunted by the spark going out of his eyes and the smoke coming out of his mouth when he was mercilessly gunned down by the Deceptions. Now I'm sad all over again! Thanks a lot for reopening old wounds, Toy Galaxy! I had supressed them until you posted this video!
Now you can relive that traumatic event with the Studio Series 2-pack of dead Prowl and dead Ironhide!
@@beatrixwickson8477 I just saw them at Target!
Great video. Also, Love that shot of the Transformers Marvel comic at 4.19 mins, where we can see the Dinobots taking on Trypticon. Remember reading that as a kid and 'loving' that cover and story.
Oohhh, this brings me back. Soundwave was by far my favorite. The fact he kept smaller transforming cassettes within himself was the RADDEST thing!
It's great you made this, I'm trying to get back into transformers (been sticking with the Prime Wars stuff for now, found a bunch of Titans Return toys for cheap and got hooked) and wanted more info on the history of the mega franchise. Good work :)
Part 2 soon(ish).
Skids was my first. It was a fight to get my parents to understand the difference between go-bots & transformers. As long as I got good grades I got one every marking period.
Oh, they knew the difference. Price. They wanted you to prefer Gobots.
And then there was the Christmas when my Mom bought me a whole line of deluxe/ super Go-Bots but I had to ruin it by finding them ahead of time. She returned all but 1 or 2.
Skids was my 1st one too. So we have something in common. Honestly though, I was a little dissappointed because I wanted Optimus so bad or one of the jet planes, specifically Skywarp because I loved his color combination so much.
My first one was Ratchet. However, my favourite was... you guessed it... Skywarp. Apparently I wasn’t the only kid to think that way. Good to know!
God I hated Go-Bots!
Crasher had me confused as a kid.
She didn't sound like a fembit and apparently she was.
Watching the Movie in the theatre, two memories will always stay with me. Listening to a bunch of kids go “Oooh” when Spike said “Oh Shit! What are we going to do now!” Hearing those same kids sniffing and weeping when Optimus went from bright red to noir coloring in a blink of an eye. My favorite were the Dinobots and Soundwave and his crew. If some one doesn’t make a punk rock band called Uncle Robo Gun, so help me God.....
Always share your history videos on Facebook. Trying to spread the love. You deserve more subs than you’ve got. Keep up the good work!
Actually had (and still have) the Diakron DK-1 before they became Transformers. Saw it in the Sears Christmas catalog and wanted it without any mythology. Because like you said, Lamborghini AND robot.
Love it that you use Dirk Diggler's take on You've Got The Touch here! LOL
Toy Galaxy + Transformers G1 = An instant viewing by me.
G1 Gears was my first as well...and he's nowhere near my Top 3.
Keep up the good work TG.
Hooah!!!!
It's nice that a constant exchange and refinement of ideas made a better product for kids on both sides of the pacific.
I hadn’t noticed Dan’s neck mole until this video and spent a good 29 seconds trying to scratch the speck of “dirt” off my phone screen :)
You've done it to me AGAIN! You showed a toy onscreen that I had completely forgotten I had. @1:48 - the silver wristwatch robot thing. I went from zero recollection to VIVID memories just by seeing the image in your video. How much of my childhood have I buried?? Guess I'll keep watching your channel to find out! :)
Trailbreaker was my 1st Transformer, I played with him so much that my parents had to buy me a second one.
Should have got hoist!
Should have got Jazz, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Mirage or any other besides another plain old pickup truck. Heck, could've got one of the jets or a Dinobot.
Mine was obviously G1 Optimus Prime with trailer.
Nice! I had skywarp, hook and longhaul. More of a decepticon kid back in the day.
Alex Consoli Haha nice! Wear and tear! Trailbreaker's actually my brother's favorite. *Fistbump*
Soundwave was and is my favourite G1 character, but the toy I lugged with me everywhere in the late 80s - early 90s was Powermaster Optimus Prime. He was loved nearly to death, and only the (severely damaged) cab robot remains years later
I remember having a recurring dream about having Ironhide as a child. That being said, my favourite was and will always be the king himself, Grimlock.
You got the touch, you got the powerrrrr. Will be stuck in my head the next few days lol. Great video Dan.
I also started off my collection with Gears! I wonder if a lot of us did because he was a red and blue truck that was much, much cheaper than the red and blue truck we all really wanted.
Next was Thundercracker, then yellow Cliffjumper, then Optimus himself and from that point (as Simon Furman would say) it never ends...
yep. Gears was my first. He even came bundled with one of those minispy cars too
Awesome video Dan. This will get repeat views for sure. Cosmos was my first, got him at a K-mart. Devastator, Skywarp, Soundwave, Megatron, Sharkticon my faves. I never owned any of my faves as a kid though, only now, as a man-kid.
Oh yeah I remember seeing the first trailer for the Movie. It's summer of 86' I'm watching MTV( the real one) and it came one for the first time. The long trailer came on. My phone rang and I answered it with "get over here". Keep in mind this was 5or6 yrs before caller ID. Lol. But it was my best friend. And that's all we talked about till the Movie came. And sure enough I was blown away. I was 14 when the Movie came out. A little older then most of the kids. But I was hooked since. 82 from the first show, and still am. And now again can't wait till Sept 27th to watch it on the big screen with my boys!!. Hell ya
Blitzwing was my first, I had him for my 7th birthday or something and I still have him - favourite Transformer, naturally :) I loved his short appearance in the movie, even if he got bested by Kup (whaaat?!) but at least he had the sense to move out of the way of Optimus' cab.
Grimlock and Ultra Magnus are my other favourites, great toys.
I love this series! Please do a history of some of the weird ones like Sky Commanders, Inhumanoids, etc.
I searched this out a few weeks ago when i came across your channel, still like the episode so much i watched all over again lol.
I loved the seasons 1 and 2 characters but was even more fascinated by many of the characters introduced in seasons 3 and 4. I have always loved futuristic designs so Hot Rod, Blurr, Springer, etc were all bad ass in my eyes. Sky Lynx too. Bring them all to the official TT Masterpiece line please 😍
Starscream, Soundwave, and Bombshell were the first three I owned and Starscream has always been my favorite.
My first G1 transformer was Ironhide. Optimus Prime is my favorite Autobot. Devastator, Soundwave, and Starscream are my favorite Decepticons.
Great video. I was actually incredibly lucky and my first ones were Bumblebee, Jazz and Starscream! I eventually got an Optimus Prime but I always wanted a Megatron that became a gun but that never happened. The next craze for me were the Dinobots and the Constructicons, great toys.
Hoist was my first Transformer, still got him too. I was a year and a half old in 84 when the Transformers cartoon came out, my older brother had a few, Megatron, Thundercracker, Thrust and Jetfire(later on he gave me all of those)I loved the cartoon as much as he did so I got Hoist because I liked tow trucks. I also had a Optimus Prime play tent shaped like his Tractor-trailer mode. I would later go on to watch re-runs well into the 90s and got tons of G2 toys and garage sale G1 toys. My favorite moment was completing G2 Bruticus, even though a lot dislike the G2 colors, I find them quite pleasing. Second coolest thing ever happened when my mom brought home a huge bag of Transformers toys from a garage sale, for a mere TWO DOLLARS, I got a complete Metroplex, a complete Omega Supreme, a Megatron(bumping me to 2 Megatron P-38s) and a handfull of gobots that were in the bag as well. Sadly I was never able to complete a Devastator or any Autobot combiners. I still have all my old Transformers and occasionally I dig them out and transform a few.
My first Transformer was Thundercracker. Loved that jet, even if to transform him you had to take off most of his parts. I've recently started collecting Masterpiece.
I had Dirge. If you folded his wings upward in his robot mode, they actually looked like the animated Starscream's wings in his robot mode. I don't know why they had his wings folded downward in robot mode in the cartoon.
The colors were awesome on those jets
My wife says she would watch you read the phonebook, should I be worried?Serious another top notch high quality video. I was thinking how funny it would be to have the transformation sound where you change into Producer Greg even if for only a frame or 2. But if he's not available, there's always Snake Eyes or Boba Fett. And though it might seem cliche, I think my first Tf was Optimus, either him or Soundwave.
This was a great comment from beginning to end. 10/10 Would read again.
Although my brother and I were mostly GI Joe collectors (as mentioned in other TG videos) I had a few classic Transformers. Soundwave, Laserbeak, Rumble, Trailbreaker, Bumblebee and a bunch of the smaller ones, whose names escape me.
Again.............short, sweet, concise! That's Toy Galaxy! 5 out of 5!
First was Ironhide. I just got the Encore figure this year. My mom passed in 2014. Getting all of these back meant a lot to me.
Great review I love it as kid to this day I still watch them and collect them
Great Dan never fails to inform and entertain my first was prowl and wheel jack loved them both but they were fragile I already had a ton of japan robots and knockoffs thanks to traders village and a comic store by me oh yes when I was a kid my megaton broke first day so a Macross Valkyrie my dad and I painted silver and black and I called him megaton
Wow. Your content is amazing.
Another awesome video, Dan! (And Greg!) I'm trying so hard to remember who my first Transformer was. I think it was either Optimus Prime or Soundwave. Perhaps I got them on the same day.
First Transformers toy I got as a kid was Blitzwing - purple and tan. Loved it. But my favorite character was Soundwave. Always thought his "man of few words" demeanor was awesome.
im gonna be straight... i love your channel so much and i concider my shelf as a huge fan of yours. But my favorites was and will be the transformers. I instantly clicked like button before waching the video. You are my toy treasure!!! love from Greece...

Excellent work as always with these Dharma and Greg!
I will take that compliment.

Soundwave and the Constructicons were my favorites. Could not wait that Christmas to get all the Constructicons I didn't have yet.
I had one of those transforming watches. Loved it.
Awesome video considering you are talking about my favorite toyline of course I love it.
Just a note, G1 also continued in the UK until 1992, they even continued to make new figures in that market.
My first Transformer was G1 Bumblebee, I still have him and got him summer of 85. I guess he still would be my favorite character, that was the reason I got him when I did. But in a way Hot Rod has also become a favorite of mines, it is so hard to rank them or pick a favorite.
As for the 1986 Movie, I loved it when I first saw it and I still love it now. I saw the movie in theaters when I was 11, sure I was shocked, surprised and sad to see all my favorites especially Prime die, but loved that fact that the movie really seemed like a real movie, and not some rehash of the show. great episode, loved the boogie nights reference!
Instant thumbs up before the video begins.
Jazz was my first.
Always loved this one.
This channel is like cocaine. I discovered it yesterday and have devoured so much of its content already. Humorous, well researched and entertaining. Subscribed
Unlike cocaine, we're totally legal!
Awesome stuff. Top notch videos
My favorite part of the Transformers Movie debacle is that Hasbro totally backpedaled on the GI Joe movie and forced in an awkward "Duke didn't die, he's in a coma" ending. They didn't even animate it, somebody just shouts "Duke is gonna be okay!" from offscreen!
I always wondered what would have happened if they left it alone and Duke still died? I personally don't think it would have had nearly the same impact Prime's death had.
Which was hilarious in hindsight, considering Duke was literally speared through the heart!
Duke was my favorite Joe. Killing off Optimus and Duke would have made me suicidal back in '86!
Another awesome video
Got 25 anniversary movie. Watching it all the time. My favorite jazz, blaster, Optimus prime. The sound track is amazing.
My first Transformer was Huffer. I still remember the moment mom bought it for me at Walgreens.
The Wal Greens exclusive Huffer?
Which means he was probably around 20 bucks. TFs were so expensive back then, especially at drug stores.
@@MeanMrMustard1 It was 1984. I remember because I was in kindergarten. My parents did what they could to keep me and my brother happy, but they were poor immigrants. There's no way mom would have spent $20 on Huffer. I'm guessing $2 max.
My first one was Thundercracker. He was blue, my favorite color. He was a jet, which I liked better than cars. He was perfect as my first Transformer.
Like a lot of you all here, I was prime age (every pun intended) as well when Transformers came out. 6 years old. Every other toy paled in comparison. It was the penultimate toy for me! Prime's death was the talk of lunch period for weeks when I was 8 too. Oh, and kudos for using the Boogie Night's version of "You Got the Touch". Nice "touch". Lol
Great video always fun to hear the story of the transformers
I remember the first time in september 84 when the Transformers came on tv after school i was hooked. Friends got their first transformers toys and wanted one
Did some chores around the house so my parents could pay me I wanted soundwave but unfortunatly the Kmart had none left so I bought Thundercracker since my friend had starscream.
Love the toys and the hours of fun that i had.
Collected anything related to the transformers stickers or cards.
The Browning "Megatron" was my first Transformer. I had a few Go-BOts before that, but nothing awed me as much as a transforming gun, that I could fire!
Awesome history lesson looking forward to seeing part 2
Mine was Bumblebee and Starscream
Great breakdown.
"A Robotech Valkyrie or a Macross Veritech." That had to have been intentional. Cheeky.
I didn’t know this channel existed. Awesome 👏
Glad you found us.
As crazy as it sounds ive watched this movie more than any other movie in my life. I cant explain.
Jazz was my first Transformer and is still my favorite to this day, mostly back then because I was obessed with Porshe, then after the cartoon I just loved the character.
There was actually another Porsche in the first year of Transformers, Cliffjumper.
@@Neitenth I had him too, but the little cars all looked like Penny Racer toys to me.
SoundWave was my favorite. Because it was really something diabolically paternal about him. I even knew way back when how fiercely loyal his minions were to him and even his monotone voice was cool in my book. Oddly enough my mom never brought him for me. Guess she got tired of stepping on toy guns or something.
The best thing about The Transformers Movie was it had things like death and destruction. The darker themes are what made it. Even as a kid, I appreciated how much drama and tragedy there was.
In my opinion, the greatest mythology ever...35 years later and it’s as relevant to me as ever...
I love this video so much!
I love the Dirk Diggler (mark warlberg) singing "You've got the touch" and then staring in the Transformers movie franchise
My first love in the world of Transformers was Hound. I don't know what it was about him, but he was and still is my favorite Transformer.
I know this is 2 years later, but my first G1 TF was Kup. I got him so early, I don't even remember getting him. He's still one of my favorites. He's one of only 3 that I make a point of getting almost every version I can (Optimus and Hot Rod/Rodimus being the others)
My first Transformer was a G1 Jetfire. It took a while for my Dad and I to figure out how to transform it, but once he showed me how, I couldn't put it down. Jetfire would be joined by many other Autobots and Decepticons till I turned 13 and decided I was too old for toys and gave them to my little cousins. That changed on a fateful trip to my local comic book store a few years later where I purchased a G1 Bumblebee and Hotrod and I have been collecting Transformers ever since.
I love this channel.
Blaster was my 1st. He's probably in my top 10, somewhere after the entire micromaster line.
Transformers The Movie is still the best Transformers movie ever made!!
I agree. Screw the Bay films!
Absolutely.
Consuela: no no noooo.
You're nostalgic for it, and that's fine but quality-wise it sucks ass. It doesn't suck the biggest of asses but ass suckage occurs nonetheless.
Facts 100%
The 2007 movie is better if only because Sam has a character arc and we know what the heck is up with the Allspark.
1rst g1 was Optimus Prime. My Dad said he had to drive halfway accross NY State to get it for me for Chrisman back in 1985 haha! I was 6 years old and I still remember seeing the Autobots logo on the package when I tore away the wrapping papper. I got Devastator the following May for my Birthday. Those are the 2 I remember the most.
I love these History of videos 👍
I remember being sad that Iron Hide died, but not caring about any of the others (except Optimus) and liking the new guys, especially blur. I was SO HAPPY when Star Scream FINALLY got wasted. I'd waited years for that moment and it was SWEEEEEEET. "Megtron? Is that you?" "Here's a hint!" *BOOM*
