I am getting back into backpacking after many years, and found this tent. I was about to buy the regular version, but bought this one instead because the entire package fits better in a backpack. First trip out, my friends were jealous that I didn't have to strap tentpoles to the outside of my pack to carry them. Feels very durable and of course the light weight is important.
Good review, loved that you showed the bigger poles. Best feature of this model though is it's the darkest colour! Makes sleeping in summer Norway a bit easier.
Excellent overview of this tent. I bought one, and on _first_ use, one of the bottom plastic clip at the corner on the body broke (seen at 3:13 ). I read a review where it happened to another guy. Pretty critical element, that's what holds the corner of the body to the pole/stake. After longer use, did you have any issue with yours? I really like all the points you noted about the tent, it's a great bikepacking or backpacking tent, but that one critical element that worries me.
I did as well. And as a plus I got the REI credit card, and a $100 giftcard for being approved. Then, 5% of the purchase price comes back as a bonus toward future REI purchases. So, great tent, great deal! And now...the Great Outdoors!
i would recommend becoming an REI member and annually they give 20% discounts - that is when I got mine. but yes - good products from good companies do cost a bit more - i don't mind support big agnes as they are a huge supporter of Leave No Trace.
I afford and explain such a big expense by not paying accommodation in trips, i mean 1-2 weeks of vacation will pay by itself, and you'll have it for many more years after that. I just ordered mine in Europe for 585eur. For the ground sheet i have a cheap tivek sheet, didn't used it yet but should be very strong. On my first trip i used a surviving foil and my old tent is still intact after 5y.
Feedback: I like this tent. The only thing I dislike about these packing tents is that people can put their arms underneath between the layers stealing things. So ground and upper layers need attachments so it becomes harder to reacj underneath and simply grab things.
@@gzahnd No mainly Europe. But that is the problem with most small tents. Not to be able to close it off. Also because of ventilation I understand, but it is a big issue. Increasing issue. Things stored in a tent while making a day trip, leaving a tent on a camping with some goods, is a issue. So the least it needs is to take things out of sight. It is a brain cracker to get around this issue. Of course lockers on a camping, but they aren't all around, and quite expensive. Etc. So some way of storing things out of direct side from the outside of a tent. Maybe a zipper with a attention signal, a diode alarm or something, not heavy but loud. Covering such issues would be at least something.
@@Incorruptus1 I see, you’re in campgrounds. In the western US, we mostly have dispersed (wild) camping, and often there are no other humans for miles/km’s in any direction. I imagine campgrounds would be a headache for things like day trips. Makes sense.
@@gzahnd Thank you. And yes that is exactly the difference indeed. Wild camping is legal in some European nations, but most do not allow this by law. There is some nations that appoint some areas to have ability for wild camping, but those are rare. So yeah we had a tent producing industry, but that is long moved abroad, or dissolved into nothingness. So in EU we depend mainly on other nations producing them. I have the normal copper spur UL2. Do you know if the bike packing poles fit the normal copper spur UL2 and do they sell them?
Very nice! I've got that tent but not the bikepacking version. The 2 person is plenty big for me and my gear.
