Track bike works great for those types of trails you are on, but for tight woods riding you need an enduro bike, or at least it will make the ride much more enjoyable. Enduro bikes have better fuel capacity, suspension setups, and gearing. At the end of the day it’s about getting out and having fun, and one isn’t better than the other, they are just meant for different things. No need for the clickbait.
Not true! I ride a crf 450r on technical single track every ride and i enjoy it more than my previous ktm 300. The honda is the overall better bike for the 50/50 mix of single and more open tracks and it's more reliable.
An enduro bike is a motocross bike, usually with a heavier flywheel and gearing setup for trail riding. If you want to ride deep sand, steep hills and gnarly trails ride an enduro bike.
On open stuff like this ,yeah anything will work good. Take it in some nasty rocky snotty root technical terrain and a woods set up will reward you 💯. But, whatever floats your boat ✌🏼✊🏻
Right, unless it’s pure trials stuff like straight up rocks…but on trails a good rider can adapt to any style off road bike with reasonable exceptions. Because of experience, I can take a twenty year old KDX 200 and and hang completely with this guy or some guy on a new trials bike.
Would’ve done it so much better. Would’ve crawled right up most everything he went up. MX bikes you just gotta have momentum for everything, enduro bikes.. not so much. To an extent.
I have owned 31 Mx motorcycles and two enduros.Under 60 years old Mx ,over 60 enduro is better. It’s a softer ride.Bad back, bad knee, bad wrist, bad shoulder but brain is ok.
Are they better? Not really. Are they better in a specific use case? Yes, sure they are. Every kind of bike is suited for a specific use scenario, so the best kind of bike depends on what you're using it for.
Yeah there's a reason why I'm a B class rider on a 2023 GPX FSE 300R enduro that's averaging faster harescramble lap times than my A class cousin on his CRF250R MX bike with both of us on MX 33s. It's called better suspension setup. MX bike suspension is firmer to absorb jumps better while Enduro bikes have softer suspension setup to deal with rocks, roots, and rough surfaces. My bike has 37hp and it weighs 256lbs on a scale, my Cousin's 250R makes 39hp and weighs 238lbs on a scale my gearing is also longer with both of us on 13/51 tooth sprockets which allows me to stay in gear longer while my cousin needs to shift more. On a nice packed dirt surface like a MX track sure, that extra punch due to shorter gearing will help you accelerate better, but here in the soft deep sand too much wheelspin makes you dig more than you claw and slows you down. At Mondon Hill, Brooksville I was over 3 minutes faster over the course of 45ish miles despite being a lower bracket and my cousin is definitely the better rider despite how competitive I am. When I'm on an MX track within 20 minutes he's lapping me and I can't do anything about it
There is no comparison. Motocross bikes lack a heavier flywheel and will stall in technical stuff, and also lack adequate cooling for slow speed riding.
So... not everyone wants to ride that hard. Some of us want to "enjoy the view". You get a true Enduro Bike and you can climb FAR better than one of those, at an easier pace. Not to mention, Enduro Bikes are built better and can withstand far more abuse. Just ask any true motorcycle mechanic who knows both bikes and they will educate you.
Depends what you do. There’s a lot of things a mx bike can do in the woods, and there’s a lot of things a woods bike can do- not quite in mx, but around the scene P.S. pack your exhaust.
It was a no brainer to turn a Mx bike (YZ250) into a woods bike rather than trying to get the 250X to run like I wanted it too. The only thing I really need that the 250X has is the wide ratio gearing. But that’s just 3rd-5th gear so 1 and 2 are no different anyway. So far it’s working pretty good other than having to be wound out in the high gears on long stretches. It would be better if I could bring the R’s down a little when I’m riding from trail to trail.
Everyone I ride with that has a track bike is constantly fighting problems out on the trail, I'm not as fast and I don't sound as cool but my bike starts everytime and does everything the track bikes do out on the trail...except overheat. 😅
Mx bikes were all we had when I was a kid and you just went and did everything with it. My modern beta is pretty nice except when I hit the gas without realizing that I've turned on the traction control and nothing happens.
I'm only seeing a snappy mx bike struggling to keep traction in the woods lol. I've rode mx bikes in the woods for over 20 years and finally went to a 250xc then beta 300rr now a sherco and mx bikes 100 percent are not better in any way for the woods. Better for motocross but thats literally it
All my buddy's and us use motorcross bikes for trails. They open up a lot better. Never had a issue. But we don't take slow trails either so we have a chance opening up are bikes.
Only dirt bike I have at the moment is a kx125. Think I would do fine riding it in the trails?? They’re not super open, flowy trails, but also aren’t super tight and technical
I've never had an Enduro. I had a kx 500 and an rmx 250. Rode alot of desert and hit the track twice a week for a couple years. Enduro looks fun but, wfo in the desert is more fun. In my opinion.
Rmz 450 would overheat on tight single track and suspension was way too stiff and geared way to high. Got a beta 500 rr-s dual sport now. Best choice I ever made
As an old guy that rode an Enduro last weekend on his motorcycle bike, I'll be buying a KTM Enduro because it is a woods weapon... Aka it's a lot more comfy and my old ass can ride it a lot longer for a 4-5 hour race.
Those trails looked way easy. You could rip an xr100 on that and haul ass. If you try actual hard enduro trails you'd see why you would want an enduro bike. I've ridden motocross bikes on shit like that, and trust me. Having flywheel weight is a nice thing to have on steep singletrack hills.
The thought of seeing my Honda 250 sit in the basement collecting dust after this surgery was just too much. I traded it for a street legal bike for my son. He isn’t old enough yet but it will be a much better feeling when I go into the basement. Stay muddy my friend.
