  • This shows how to clean up your pinball playfields, how to polish them, and how to wax them. In the video I mention that you might need to repeat the Novus 2 cleaning, but those repeated cleanings come before waxing. Waxing is always your last step. The Novus line of cleaners is available from any online pinball parts retailer.

good stuff! I have Novus 2, and I was told its the multi cleaner for everything. Sounded like you had a "little one" in the background giving some commentary as well! heheh!! I have a 5 month old and he likes to give his 2 cents every time I talk!!!

pinball wax is formulated so it doesn't yellow or blister over time as many other waxes tend to especially the Novus products

I always heard wax isn't ideal for playfields, as it yellows over time and discolors the artwork, just what I've always been told

That right there is the devilish work of the paste wax additives.... not the wax itself, hard carnauba wax will not yellow anything as long as its raw and pure :)

and to get used old wax out from under or around posts try a old toothbrush for their bases and it's good for the ball rails too

@Schwob94 DONT EVER USE WINDEX! Lighter colors in the art tend to turn BLUE!

Make sure to never use the drill on high, due to heat build up the plastics will warp. Also make damn sure to never just spray stuff on your playfield with parts and rubber in place. You will get buildup since one can not help but have overspray and excess on parts by accident. Basically this video is a good starting point, but parts of it are just wrong or not well described.

My Taxi has yellowing where there is no mylar. I can't tell if it's old, crusted up wax, or tobacco stains... Any recommendations?

RetroGamerFan1 I would recommend PinballLife. Good quality and great prices. I just led my getaway with 1smd ghost busters from them, and I love the results. Also, the flash react pop bumpers LEDs are a sweet! upgrade.

So if Novus 1 is like Windex for light pinball machine cleaning, can I just use Windex instead?

how many games on average before cleaning/waxing is needed?

    • @davidlewis2297

SPAMP I like to use novus 1 clean after 50games. Then 100games, more deep cleaning and wax.

    Do not use paste waxes!!!!!!
They all contain additives and solvents to present the (usually synthetic) waxes in a semi liquid form that is easier to apply to vehicles, these additives are not good for the clearcoat, or anything under it and the solvents destroy play fields over time in a nasty way. The coating they leave also wears off too fast as they tend to be soft. This also has a noticeable effect on ball speed.
Use a good quality raw carnauba "HARD" wax.
Especially if you want your machine to last and play well.
As reference, I professionally restore old pinball machines.

@@rustyblades2566 in New Zealand, if you can't get McGuire's there will definitely be a raw carnauba of another brand available, can also be called raw or hard wax :)

I just bought a machine that had the clearcoat stripped off of it. Do I have to re-apply the clearcoat after cleaning? Couldn't I just as well use wax?

    • @julescircuits845
      @julescircuits845 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Definitely will need re clear coating!!!! It will need sanding and preparation beforehand though, which is specialized work if you dont want to ruin the graphics. You should get the play field professionally resurfaced and od have the artwork touched up at the same time...
