  • In this video, we'll go over the optimal medical school application timeline.
    Are you wondering when to apply to medical school? Perhaps you've heard the advice, "apply early." However, merely applying early doesn't tell you when you should turn in each part of your application, nor when you should be working on each section.
    I'll tell you exactly how to approach your medical school application timeline so you can submit great materials early and maximize your odds of getting into med school.

    Shemmassian Academic Consulting (SAC) was founded by Dr. Shirag Shemmassian, a medical school admissions expert with over 15 years of experience helping thousands of students get into top programs such as Harvard, Mayo, and UCSF. Despite a roughly 40% medical school matriculation rate nationally, the SAC team’s approach has resulted in over 90% of their students getting accepted the first time they apply. SAC has been featured on The Washington Post, US News and World Report, and NBC.

    How does taking your mcat later, like July of application year affect your score?

  • @jenniferkim9254
    @jenniferkim9254 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My son submitted the application on June 1, but he didn’t get a secondary application request yet.
    Does it means he is rejected from school or is still on consideration ?

    Also, how does going the early admission route work? Do your chances of getting into that specific school increase, since they see your commitment, and if so you need to send them more information quicker than other schools?

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Early decision admissions is extremely competitive so you'll need to be a standout applicant to get accepted. That said, if you're committed to attending a particular school, it could be a good option for you!

    How do you know exactly what to pre- write for your secondaries? Do the schools offer online samples of what their secondaries usually consist of?

    • @quibblefoot
      @quibblefoot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the secondaries samples are available online and rarely change

    If I plan on taking a gap year does that mean I should start applying to Med school during the spring of my senior year in undergrad? This entire cycle process really confuses me

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Symone! That's correct. You would apply during the spring of your senior year and go through the application process during your gap year. This would enable you to matriculate in the fall right after your gap year ends.

    Hello,
    My professor said that she could write me a reference letter in April, but I am applying for medical school next year. Can recommendation letters “expire”? If so, what is the time period and can I use that reference letter that I will receive at the end of the semester. Thank you’

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! Rec letters don't really expire, but you should ask the writer to update the date to say "2022" for when you apply next year,

    So for folks who are trying to start med school right after undergrad, are these months for our senior year or junior year?

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Gavin! If you're looking to apply straight through, this information would be relevant during your junior year (e.g., January - April of junior year) and senior year (e.g., September - March)

    Does this apply to transfer students as well?

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You may have to push things back to match your timeline based on when you transferred but by and large, the principles will still apply.

      Hi Natasha! We recommend requesting that letters be submitted by the end of June. Our LOR guide covers this in more detail: www.shemmassianconsulting.com/blog/medical-school-letter-of-recommendation

    I took my MCAT but didn’t do well.. do you think sending my application in May and submitting my final MCAT in July would hinder my chances of getting accepted?

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Assuming you do well on the retake, that would be fine because your new MCAT score will overlap with when you submit secondaries.
