The ugly truth is that no political party is going to make any serious changes to entitlements until a significant majority of Americans understand enough economics to understand why they must be reconciled with reality. Very few can remain in office long enough to do it until Americans recognize the need.

    • @itsallminor6133

The entitlements isn't even a issue. America has plenty of money and plenty of technology coming down the pipeline.
It's the biggest myth of all thinking entitlements is a issue.
The country literally shut down for two years and there was hardly any difference. We can close most the country and run. As technology increases this will become more so. The problem they are having is how to revamp the economic system.

It is not a question of a majority understanding economics because the majority does understand economics. It is a majority morality and integrity failure which must be addressed.

The republican party is trying to address the medical costs by going to the root of the problem - chronic illness. This is the positive influence of RFKJr. It's a great move.
I did not hear that they were expanding entitlements, just that they wouldn't cut them.

We saw a similar political maneuver in 1992 when Clinton promoted his agenda. He adopted various republican projects, such as welfare reform, and the end of big government. For people who love power, this reworked left agenda in 2024 by the next republican administration is likely to succeed. Our culture is ready to shut down trade and when the economic disruptions come, they will be ready to accept even more assistance from the government. The "common good" can always justify any power play.

Yes, however, if energy is unleashed - oil, gas, nuclear, whatever else - I am hoping that has immediate downstream effects that make these problems moot, because sure we can be principled and philosophical and I love that, but the polity isn't, and we need them to to have decent people in power.

It’s sad that we Objectivists have such little influence with such a superior ideological product.
Would it be worthwhile to brainstorm new strategies and tactics to gain more influence over American and world thinking? Let’s observe the evidence in history that small groups can win with better and bolder strategies and tactics.
Small bad groups can take over the whole place as in Cuba or good small groups as recently the libertarians in Argentina.
We are a small group with the best and most powerful ideas. Now let’s brainstorm new and better ways to get them into the discussions of the world.

Nikos began very promising but from previous videos (like "America's Second Declaration of Independence where he said, "Picture an idealistic young person already burning with the fire to do something with their life, of wanting to change the word, of wanting to be part of something bigger than what they are...." and this one it seems clear that collectivism has not been purged from his ideology. He is not well reasoned and makes too many mistakes as a result. This is too bad because he is very intelligent and very promising.

These are important observations and objections to the Republican platform. Does the Ayn Rand Institute have any contacts with or influence on the Republican thought leaders who prepared and approved the platform? President Trump offered cabinet positions to the Libertarian Party in exchange for their endorsement. As a non-serious political party they refused to play politics.
In the end I doubt President Trump feels any obligation to have the platform guide his administration's policies.

How could persons who know that 2+2=4 work with an insane cult of personality like the GOP has become? Especially when their particular messiah is a convicted criminal, probable traitor knowingly stealing and unlwqfully retaining classified documents of the highest order, a high-output conspiracy theorist, and supporting a totalitarian regime, and a dishonest, conniving louse (youtube up "trumped: the Donald, the Widow and Emiinent Domain"), who belongs in either a padded cell or in prison (at least). I am beginning to think the election should be postponed until this massive manure mess is sorted out, or the Electoral College does it's job "to ensure that scoundres do not ascend to the Presidency". I would not go near the GOP without a full hazmat suit and protocols

Being from Cincinnati I have known about JD Vance for a while…..I didn’t know about this 2019 speech mentioned here. Great. just what we need, another republican who talks about reading Rand and being inspired by her. Do us all a favor and stop mis informing the ignorant American public to think Ayn Rand and Objectivism has any relation to “right wing” ( whatever that even means … I haven’t got a clue anymore ) politics or politicians. Mike Pence, Paul Ryan, JD Vance, what a sad list of humans to be associated with the greatest philosopher in the last 1000 years.
