How you doing? Great cover and song. Nice equipment too and it looks brand new or you keep it that way. I love how you put the lyrics on the screen so I can sing and play at the same time. See you on the next one, peace.

I'm bass player turned guitar player and I got all of the parts down by ear, but no matter how hard I tried I can't decipher solo's. Is there a tab maybe somewhere? How did you learn it? Very nice playing by the way, best cover I've seen by far. Your tone is amazing too, I love those palm mutes. Great job!
Thank you 😎 I usually piece together songs first from looking at tabs on Ultimate Guitar or Songsterr, to get me into the ballpark. It's usually less trouble than just starting off by ear. However, you soon find that there are multiple tabs transcribing things differently, some of them - if not all of them - obviously very wrong. So that's why I say that online tabs "get me in the ballpark" to begin, but they're just one step. I'll usually look at TH-cam next for live videos of the band playing the song, which can help a lot with where they're playing notes and how. I also compare as many TH-cam cover videos as possible to see how different guys online are playing a song. For more popular songs, you'll often find detailed, slow breakdowns of solos that might even include onscreen tabs to go with their tutorials. More recently I've been using Moises software to isolate guitar tracks out of songs. This can help verify that what you've learned from other sources actually sounds correct or close enough to correct. It can also be a lifeline for songs you want to learn that aren't popular enough to have online tabs or tutorials, as you can extract the guitars from a song and then slow them down. It's all pretty time-consuming and I usually don't enjoy the process of learning solos much, but the end result can be rewarding. Good luck with everything 😎✌🏻
Thank you :) There's not much: I used an old Line 6 Spider III, which is on the floor in the middle. That amp has some custom sound settings I made maybe 10-15 years ago that I still like, and it seemed like it worked better blending with this song than the EVH and Marshall tube amps. It's a moderate distortion setting, so I used a Boss overdrive pedal for most of this song to saturate it. Also, there's a little bit of a Boss analog delay pedal on and off in a few places during the solo section. The acoustic parts are just the Schecter straight into the Marshall acoustic amp.
@@OldGuitarMan amazing formula! This is probably one of the best Epiphones in history. IMO, good as the Japanese Elite-Elitist series. Many thanx men! Cheers!!
It’s 4 or 5 years old. It needed a setup out of the box. It plays great and sounds great - I love the feel it has - although there are some minor tuning stability problems. Overall, yeah, it’s recommended by me, FWIW - at least at the price point it was then. Everything is more expensive now and I don’t know what these are going for in 2023.
I looked up some stuff for you :D The Iommi model we have that's in all these Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell videos is a 2019, purchased from Sweetwater in January of 2020 - before the prices of everything in the world did what they did. It was $789 new then. It's out of production now, I guess. Of course, what's an "acceptable" price in 2023 is an individual thing: How much so-called disposable income a person has available, how obsessive they are to obtain a particular instrument, etc. Around 2019, Anderton's said this model was the top model in the entire Epiphone line - based on its build quality and features/cost ratio, I guess. My opinion? It's a little conservative. I'd say $1000 or under now for one in good condition would be worth it to someone who wants one of these. I haven't looked, but if people are selling them up in the $1200 - $1500 range, that's a little excessive - unless you absolutely NEED one. In that case, there's no price too high, right? I'm sure you already know this, but Epiphone is still making the cool red Iommi SG Special at $999 and the very awesome black SG Prophecy at $899.
That was fucking perfect! Hey, OldPsychoMan, I'm reaching out to you as I am in the process of doing a full cover of this song (and two others on Heaven and Hell) using remote musicians and of course myself, singing and playing keys and some guitar. I have the exact same Epiphone as you. I am not a great lead guitarist and I need someone who can totally nail Tony Iommi, as you clearly can. If you are even slightly interested, please go to my Channel's 'About' page and please email me and I'll follow up with more info. I can show you the 3-camera footage drum recording I have already had done, which is totally kick-ass. I can also email you links to video and audio (not on my channel) of me singing (40 years professional), so you can know the quality fits with what you do. I'll delete this comment soon, I just couldn’t find a contact for you. Cheers from Australia, Stefan
That would be killer, but…I’m probably not the right guy for it. I don’t know how to record properly. I just set up a mic, turn everything up and hope the volume mix between the guitar and song is passable. I haven’t played this song since I recorded it, but I remember playing some of the bass lines on guitar to give it something vaguely unique for a TH-cam cover. Purists frown at stuff like that, I know. I get lots of frowns. But I don’t ever “nail” Iommi or anyone else. I just play what I can with whatever tone I have. Even on this song, the solo is spliced because the first attempt going into the quick part at the end went off into a ditch. I spend a lot of time in ditches. So in short, thanks so much for the offer, but I have neither the tech nor the playing ability to be useful to anyone. ✌🏻
@@OldGuitarMan hey thanks for the reply. No worries at all. I think you did a bloody good job - and I always end up cheating somehow, like doing multiple takes every time I fall in a ditch... then splicing together and miming the video : ) Thanks anyway, reallly appreciate the reply and the above video.
