As a glenmorangie fan im really happy u made this comperison! The new one is, according to german sites, 70 % bourbon and 30% sherry casks! Cheers Geoff 🥃
I have a bottling of the old label. Solid stuff. It doesn't blow me away, but that's not what Glenmorangie is known for. It's affordable, has a good age statement, and it's tasty. If someone really wants to explore higher age statements then Glenmorangie 18 Yr is a really attractive option.
I've got the Azuma Makoto Edition, which is somewhere between the two judging by your tasting notes. As I've mentioned before: I tend to prefer whiskies that are enjoyable to drink, rather than "challenging" etc., so it's not much of a surprise that I like that one...
the old bottle i always paid in europe 80 euro the new bottle is in europe 125 euro 😮💨 the price of the new one is 30 procent more sadly 45 euro more expensive the new bottle
Interested to see this review so thank you. I am no officiando of whisky but have also noted many whisky enthusiasts love of the smaller distillers and the minimum 46% ABV, unchilled filtered, no colouring requirements. Glenmo therefore gets a bad rep. But I have enjoyed quite a few of their bottles including the old 18 yr old. Maybe my palate is not educated enough, but I reckon Dr Bill does a pretty good job! Maybe fewer special releases would be a wise move?
On Glenmorangie in general, when I was a callow 20 year old, it was the first whisky I tried that I really enjoyed. I still have a little bit of fondness for the brand because of that.
Not really versed on the Glenmorangie front so I'm mostly here for the Geoff-perience hah Sounds interesting, though I think in my case I could try either of them first hehe Thanks for the review Buddy! Cheers 🥃🥃🎩
18 years cost a lot these days, but at least it's not like the Taliksker 18 price. I will miss the old glenmorangie design, The new one looks very simple. I doubt I will get my own bottle of it, The highest age statement for me is 15 years these days. Oh and I got my glanmorangie 14 for 50€, hope I will like it 😅 thanks for the review

Thanks for reviewing Geoff Can't say much on either these, and with your xxx rating (on abv, filtering and colour)... I'll leave the xxx enjoyment on your side... 🤔... er... guess you got that. Slàinte mhath
It went from being extremely rare to having no end in sight. Jokes aside, I used to own a bottle of the old 18 ( a Christmas gift card from my erstwhile employer that my wife said I could spend on something I like). It was pleasant and unassuming at first few pours and got better but got better with time. Not sure I’d splurge on the new 18 y.o. The 16 year old Nectar sounds really intriguing. If price is right I might buy a bottle. Hopefully it sells for less than the 15yo Cadboll Estate here in the States.
I had the opportunity to taste the 18 yo Glenmorangie a couple of years ago, and it didn't impress me. It certainly isn't worth over $100 in my opinion. As much as I love Glenmorangie, I can't justify spending over $100 on one of their bottles. Or on any colored & filtered 43% whisky for that matter. While the 18 yo might be considered "affordable" compared to other whiskies of the same age, for that price, I'd prefer to buy two independently bottled, higher-proof, uncolored, and un-chill filtered 12yo bottles.
The reason why Glenmorangie is not getting much love here at least in Canada is because of the prices sky rocketed so much. The Glenmorangie 18 used to be 180-200$ it's now 300$ CAD. For a 18 Year Old Whiskey, it has to compete against some 21 Year old Whiskey and Glenmorangie 18 Extremely Rare when I tasted back in the days certainly did not live up to my expectations at least for me as I love long finished heavy sherry whiskeys and this one felt short in comparison. Thanks for the review and Cheers.
th-cam.com/video/CihJG_nM9Xo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wpVyZ2O1cILz5rWd Granted, it's the older Glenmo 18 but you get a feel for how it stacks up when the tasters don't know what's in which glass.
I'm a big Glenmorangie fan and love the old 18. Do they cater to enthusiasts? Not based on the stats but certainly based on the flavors. Who are bottle like the Signet or the Tales series for? Are non enthusiasts really going to buy a gin flavored Tale of the the Forest or a Cadboll Estate whose claim to fame is a local yeast strain? I wish we had the higher ABV, non chill filtration and natural color but even without that Glenmorangie is still putting out products that have flavors and concepts that enthusiasts like me are going to love.

Alright, I have a tough question: Do you have any recommendations that are similar in taste profile to the glengassaugh sandened. I absolutely adore the stuff but it is on the harder side to find here.
That is tough! Old Pulteney springs to mind, although it's a bit on the lighter side in terms of abv, and anything above the 12 will have a stronger sherried touch. Oban is also quite coastal, but again the abv isn't there. Honestly there's nothing that comes to mind that's going to be totally similar.
