Had the 10, 12 and a couple bottles of the old 14. Lots of upside. 14 years in the barrel with a port finish @46%. Good juice. Thanks G for the review and cheers.🥃
I've had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition throughout the years. Each has been wonderful. I would rank them all pretty similarly at about an 85 score. There have been small variations in taste throughout the years, but it's always a solid bottle.
1:07 😆Love your sense of humor! Love the QR too, it's been one of my go-to single malts for a pretty long time. The quality seemed to fall off slightly when they first brought out the 14yo, but it's come back more recently.
Another great review Geoff! I have a bottle with the previous labeling which I reach for very rarely. It’s decent but very dessert-y sweet….its like milk chocolate covered prunes and Marciano cherries.
Hi Geoff, strangely I haven’t had the 14 though I was a big fan of the 12 yr old Qunita Rubin. Pretty sure It’s also natural colour. Certainly agree on the 10 , even at 40% It’s got decent flavours and It’s also a decent dram . Slàinte Geoff.
I preferred the previous labelling but you’ve really caught my attention with the forest notes and pine, love those notes! So maybe this is different to the old one especially with you thinking the 12 is different from new to old too, interesting, cheers!
By the end of this series you gonna make me a Gelnmorangie fan haha This sounds probably the most interesting to me so far from their line up. Had it once at a bar. Seems like I need to try the new label. Great review as always Geoff! Cheers Buddy 🥃🥃🎩
Glenmo is one of those brands that is often good but rarely mind-blowing. If the price is right I do enjoy most of their range, though. Cheers buddy! 🥃
I liked the 12, I like the 14 and I'm pretty sure I'll like the new bottle. Glenmorangie is one of those distilleries that you can rely on to make good whisky at a good price. Sure they're not the most exciting brand and credit where its due they do come out with some solid drams at generally good specs. Cheers Geoff 🥃
Glenmorangie on a bit of a winning streak here! Very fitting for the distillery that gave us the Signet. 😊 Still on the lookout for these new bottlings - great review as always @Gwhisky!
The new bottles are pretty much everywhere in Taiwan, you'll have plenty of opportunities to try them when you come back. Maybe at a bar though. Again, shelf space... 😉
My very first single malt bottle was quinta in black colours back in 2017... 46% abv for unprepared me... Had to struggle throughout the apprenticeship, and now many years later, thankful to the experience!🎉 No Glenmorangie products bought ever since due to weak stats though 😂
Sorry for replying to myself if even everyone cares but my hot take as follows. Among the entry level highland style representatives like Glenlivet, Fiddich12 , Morangie 10, all of a sudden Mac 12 double cask is a winner due to exotic fruits newances and subtleties. Ok now back to Glencadam 10 😂
I really liked the 12-year-old Quinta Ruban and was disappointed when I tried the 14-year-old. I thought I might be mis-remembering, so I did a side-by-side and... really disliked the 14 in comparison! You said it is more of an 'enthusiast' whisky and that might be the problem! Almost certainly I won't buy it again.
Wow under 40$ is great price. I think it's like 55-60€ in my country. Still decant value. I only have glanmorangie 10, which I haven't opened. Thanks for review
Interesting fact, but somehow I can relate to your opinion. When I got the bottle, I was very surpriced with those minty flavours and port influence on this one 8 months ago, and my score for this whisky was outstanding 90 points. The thing is, I noticed that overtime I haven't reached to it very often preffering heavily sherried/bourbon whiskies. Recently I decided to open QR 14 again, and my impression was mixed, in my case, this whisky is good, but there is something in it that just doesn't match my profile. I would rather buy another bottle of Bunna 12 or GlenDronach 12/15. It seems that this whisky was built for rare ocassion.
It’s a great whiskey for autumn and winter time, and IMHO that’s the case for most port finished/matured whiskies. But it’s a really good whiskey at an affordable price.
Sadly, I’ve never had this. I had 2 bottles of the old 12 yr. Old Black label. It was my first example of the “red berries” flavor note. Albeit it was a bit hot until I got used to it. This one I’ve passed on over and over. Btw, amazing price. Here in Florida it’s @$65.
@@Gwhisky No, it was the previous label with the gold square thingy on the front 😅 It was a bit of a bummer because it was kind of swamped by the wood. Cheers!
1:17 -- coincidentally, this is when I decided to give this video a like. A degenerate, a bad apple, not someone that Geoff would be a fan of. Still going to keep watching this channel to continue giving this place a seedy undertone.
Wasn't going to say anything, Tim, but you really do drag down the calibre of posh, classy, and cerebral discourse this channel is known for. It's appreciated. 😉🥃
From Glenmorangie I've tested only the old 10yo and the 14yo Quinta Ruban. I would say that I liked the 10yo more. So I'd rather taste the new edition of 10yo than the new QR...
I think that the old 14 QR and new 14 QR are fairly similar. Maybe I prefer the old one a little as it seems a little creamier, but it might be in my head. Would need to do a blind side by side. Interesting that you have never done a review of the Glenmo Palo Cortado. I think you will like it.
Says non-chill filtered on thr box and the back label of of bottle. I've Also got the Palo cortado which is also 46%. But that has no mention of NCF anywhere
Port casks usually impart A LOT on the whisky, and generally, I really have to be in the mood for a whisky to enjoy them, but then there's nothing better, if I just take a whisky because I always do, then I almost dislike the port matured ones, because too much is going on, maybe....??? - So it is funny, IT IS my favorite maturation, but it is also one of the few maturations that I will sometimes have to force myself to finish, once poured....;- )
Gotta agree with you there! I really dig port maturation/finishes but when I'm not feeling it that day it's a style I can't force myself to like, and when I DO feel like it, a small pour can be more than enough. The Glenmo's among the better port finishes in this price range for me, but it went up from 50ish to nearly 60, now it won't go below 50 anymore in sale!
The problem of the Quinta Ruban 14 vs the 12 is the fact that they no longer guarantee a minimum two-year finish in port (which they used to). They only say min. 10 years ex bourbon and max 14 years in total, the rest is up to the particular batch. The reason behind it is (you guessed it): Problems with sourcing port casks.
maybe this is placebo, but it was so easy drinking, the alcohol buzz didnt seem as strong of a kick even at 46%... and i dont just drink whisky for the flavor, that's for squares
I don't know what it is, but based on the older tasting set I bought around Christmas (10, 12, 14, NAS Nectar d'Or) I just found the brand ID to be....boring and generic. For the 10 I'd take the Arran any time, for the12 Glenturret, for the QR and Nectar - nevermind, Port and Sauternes finishes are not something I crave in the first place. But there you go, different strokes....
i would assume that it probably is not chill filtered, buuuut, it gives me heavy filtered vibes, the profile feels a little muted, and id assume its cold heavy filtered. but that is just a feeling, cant proof it ofc
Glenmorangie were always saying that they do not color their whisky, even boasting that. In Ukraine they have to indicate additives on the label and there is no caramel in Quita Ruban...Lasanta probably either.
I bought this recently, and was slightly disappointed. I think for the same reasons you mentioned. I expected it to have more of a port flavour, but I found it very subtle. It wasn’t bad, but I wanted more from it. And at £50, it wasn’t great. Also, you’re pronouncing the brand wrong. The new logo/design is intentional. Those are the syllables to pronounce. It doesn’t have the “orange” sound in it. It ends in “Angie”.
The new Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich designs are the most appalling thing I've seen, the bottles were so beautiful and classic and made them so pale anemic tasteless I have so many bad things to say about these designs that I avoid buying them as much as possible even though I love them them only because of these ugly kebabs, as for whiskey 14 it is excellent I drank it a year ago and it was very high quality especially for the price, I love your channel thank you
I've got the 18 and then a blind tasting with all my Glenmos together, then it's on to other stuff. I rarely have so much of a range on my shelf at the same time, so I thought it would be fun to do a rundown. 🥃
Had the 10, 12 and a couple bottles of the old 14. Lots of upside. 14 years in the barrel with a port finish @46%. Good juice. Thanks G for the review and cheers.🥃

I quite like this one. I get the minty, oak, and pine notes too. This is a good Autumn (Fall) whisky. Cheers!

Glenmorangie 14 QR is ~USD63-88 in nz.
$113 at the SAQ, but it is a nicely assembled Whisky and one of my fav of their regular lineup
Lovely stuff! Damn, now I have to buy the whole core range..

Interesting. Was it a recent batch with the new label?
@@Gwhisky No, it was the previous label with the gold square thingy on the front 😅 It was a bit of a bummer because it was kind of swamped by the wood. Cheers!

Yeah from memory I agree the old and new are quite similar. Definitely need to try the Palo Cortado! 🥃
i still miss the Quinta 12… much more complex than the 14. But I’m going off memory so the nostalgia factor cannot be denied
I'm fairly sure it says non-chill filtered on my bottle of Quinta Ruban. Or perhaps on the box. Might have a look a bit later.
Says non-chill filtered on thr box and the back label of of bottle. I've Also got the Palo cortado which is also 46%. But that has no mention of NCF anywhere
Yeah that statement isn't present on the bottles here in Taiwan, even in the Chinese text. Odd. 🥃
Back of the bottle I have, it says that it's Non Chill Filtered, in the text just below where it says QUINTA RUBAN
Good to know! My back label makes no such mention. 🥃
this whisky the flavor changes in the glass with water and time, starts out bitter tannic wine, then morphs to sweet fruit chocolate
idk if someone has complained about the audience jabs that you do. please do not change
In the USA the 10 is at 43% abv. A staple in my collection.

Was a little nervous about this video, Geoff, since this one is a favorite at this price level. Doesn't sound like they've tinkered with it, though...
I bought this one more than a year ago, I think with this branding. I like it but it is perhaps a little bit too light for me.
Funny you ask the guys to compare old and new bottel...I guess it's nostalgia or something but everyone always says the old is better!
maybe this is placebo, but it was so easy drinking, the alcohol buzz didnt seem as strong of a kick even at 46%... and i dont just drink whisky for the flavor, that's for squares
