    Just ordered my first DSLR and I'm watching your videos to get a headstart on learning processing before it gets here. This is a gem. Thank you so much for this. I really can't tell you how appreciative of this I am. After I learn the basics of processing from this I'm going to do your Photoshop for Photographers course next.

    OUTSTANDING. I thought I had a pretty good grasp of the basics of editing. However, I was keeping track of new tidbits of information I was learning in this video. 11. ELEVEN new things I learned in this video. This is why I am subscribed. Instead of doing all the art crap, BLASTING your images into over saturation hell, your images look NORMAL.

    As Anthony says he likes the style where he has as much detail as possible for example in the sky.
    Detail is great, note however, that by far most people today work on Low Dynamic Range screens that won´t come close to the range of your eyes/real world, so what he is doing here is trading luminance for detail/saturation. This will make the image appear less contrasty, but you have more detail.
    In real world or on HDR screens of the future it is possible to have saturation/detail and correct luminance at the same time. Currently you often are limited to have one as correct as possible, saturation or luminance, especially in HDR images on LDR screens (there is for example no way to currently have a very bright and at the same time very blue sky on a LDR screen so what you currently often do is move the blue towards white so it appears brighter and creates more contrast/depth as in real world. In future as screens become much brighter this will change, you will have saturation and luminance correct, highlight will really pop and blend you like looking inside a street lamp at night). Don´t forget that and think about where you want to make the tradeoff - luminance or saturation/detail. There is no correct or incorrect currently and both is wrong and right at the same time. By the way you can also regain detail by local contrast in the highlights so you might get luminance more correct and have detail also. You can archieve that by using high pass filter in photoshop and apply this as overlay to the highlights only. Note however that you need at least some information in the highlights to make this "hack" work.
    At the end everything is about personal taste and there is not just way to make things look great.
    Thanks for your videos Anthony!

    Hi, I have been following your videos and they are just wonderful. Your detailed style of teaching is something unique. I am a hobby photographer (using Olympus OMD MFT camera and pro lenses). I am interested in Wild life and Bird photography. I would like to know if you have any presets for these. Wishing for your well being in the current Covid-19 situation.

    I don't have a dedicated Backslash Key. I think the keyboard shortcut is SHIFT + S (don't actually press the '+' key). But from the beginning I developed the habit to only edit Virtual Copies. So I create a Virtual Copy from the RAW image, and edit the Virtual Copy. My 'before' is the RAW version, my edited image is the Virtual Copy. I can easily toggle between these two versions with the arrow keys.

      How does a keyboard not have a backslash? That is literally one of the basic things a keyboard should have and would be easier to use than the "shortcut"

    Anthony I'm just getting back into my photography and am an admirer of your tutorials. In this one regarding the basic tab you show how to adjust the profiles for any appropriate camera. When I open the Basic Tab and open profiles I don't get the options you show but the vary basic from adobe. How to I find the profiles for my Canon 5 D Mk III or do I need to import them and if so from where?
    Thanks Rocky

    Another excellent LR tutorial. I was surprised the histogram was not mentioned. As I adjust the sliders, I always see how it affects the histogram, especially checking for clipping blacks and whites. Any reason why the histogram wasn’t mentioned?

    • @wintersthrall
      @wintersthrall 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug Oh Yes, I like to toggle the histogram on for quick reference too. I’m still not sure how to best utilize it other than to give us a reference for optimal full range light/color content.

    In the Basic Tab, Color, I do not see, for example, Adobe Color in the list of options: I have added some 3rd party profiles but in the process I seem to have erased or moved the Adobe color options: how do I get them back ? I have poked around a lot myself but have exhausted my abilities !! Thanks in advance.

    A couple of weeks ago I bought the lr classic. In watching this video today I discovered that my version does not have any "Adobe Color" Profile choices listed under the Basic area on the video. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a way to fix it? I have been watching a multitude of Anthony's video on lr Classic. They are great.

      Are you shooting in RAW? I don't get it with JPEG but it shows up for me with RAW images.

    • @SteveWebster376
      @SteveWebster376 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same thing with mine Frederick. I twigged when Anthony explained that the variety and number of profile choices is also dependant on the camera used in addition to whether .jpg or .raw. For example, photos taken with my 7800D had a very limited range of profiles when compared with those available when my D7100 was used.

      check your version. I had the same problem today, checked forupdates and noticed that I was WAY behind in the version I was using. Got the latest update, and all the "missing" options appeared.
