- Second Guest Car we feature from Retro Rides Gathering 2019, and this time it´s the outrageous DriftWorks AE86 V8, a Drift Monster mixing 3 very special ingredients: a Spaceframed Chassis from a NASCAR, a 7.4L LSx V8 Engine in Naturally Aspirated form and the Iconic Toyota Hachiroku shell in its Trueno version.
Created and driven by the very Boss of DriftWorks, Phil Morrison, here we had the chance to observe this Monster finally attacking an HillClimb ( Shelsley Walsh in this case) in a spectacular Drift Run, where we had the added bonus of a proper "Tire Warming" session. This one is built for the public enjoyment more than to fight against the clock, but it is a tremendous machine and at 720Hp/1200Kg, it is certainly no slouch too... And getting sideways on such a narrow place with all that power certainly makes for some proper entertainment....

I used to be a mechanic at an off-road racing shop. My boss had an unlimited class trophy truck. 506ci "LS" that made 975hp at the crank on c16 and it could run for hours at full throttle. Loudest vehicle I have heard in my life. It would literally shake your chest.

@@AnettzEllesmerearound most corners actually. Drifting is 99% for style and fun. Only speed advantage from drifting is in very tight corners to get the front pointed correctly and with FWD cars for tighter/faster turning if you manage to keep the front wheels to keep traction and rip the rear around with the handbrake.

@@kevinhawley962 god damn it I was just about to say this, I have a 4.8 Silverado and it still has the cats, but boy does it sound good. I have a short of me revving it on my channel, it sounds pretty much like any other 4.8 but it's damn healthy.
I delivered pizza in a AE 86 Corolla with a 1.6 4 cylinder engine that was indestructible and it never had a problem even after over 500,000 miles.
Got my first one after a hundred year old oak tree fell on it and drove it another 120,000 miles (had well over 330k when we parted ways as my knees were on the dash 24/7, bit of an inconvenience with a 5 spd). All I ever changed on it was filters, plugs, oil and tires.
Did you happen to be delivering these pizzas for your dad's pizza shop in the AE86 while learning racing techniques and delving into the world of street racing along the way?

ls are not that heavy
Not much heavier than the stock engines. Chevrolet pushrod motors are light. Weigh less than most V6s/I6s and same as many I4s
@@boredguy2935 just googled it and yep, its not that diff in weight from the stock engine 50-70kg diff
LS are lighter than many engines that are much smaller. S2000 LS swapped is +30kgs heavier (without AC), for 3x the torque and double the horsepower and a reliable engine you can easily rebuild if needed, unlike an f20c with insane tolerances and a crank worth more than an LS lol. Retains 50:50 and the weight difference is actually in the gearbox.. not the engine. It's also a lower center of gravity.

@@justins21482 No, that was Drift Games in Ireland, who do media and drift comps. DriftWorks is the online parts shop in Birmingham. They do have a youtube full of crazy builds too though.

Wrong. I LS3 dry sumped my S2000, it retains 50:50 (infact slightly more rearward) as the weight difference (30kg) is in the gearbox lmao. Pushrod engines are LIGHT.
