The M3 MacBook Pro has been a complete rollercoaster of an experience for us. From being stuck to Ventura and not being able to update to Sonoma, to constant crashing in FCP and us not being able to complete our testing. Here's the full story and why you might want to avoid the base 8GB RAM M3 MacBook Pro :)
Hope you enjoy the video! It's been very difficult to make (and this is an understatement). We were supposed to have it live on Wednesday, but ended up delaying it to Thursday and then further to Friday, as we were having constant issues with the M3 model. Plus - we even bought an M2 Pro Mac mini, just to get the FCP benchmarks re-tested. And the results were (very) unexpected!

My brother worked in Apple tech support for years, they would always give internal feedback on customer issues to the hardware and software teams. There were always more problems with new models, and he strongly advises not to buy launch day hardware. (I know you have to!) But, most issues are with new OS & bugs - I don't know why they launch new macs just after a new OS. Asking for trouble.

What is the smartest purchase? M3 pro with 11 or 12 cores? M3 Max 14 or 16 cores? My question refers to each range, looking at prices and quality regarding efficient cores and true cores, which one do you recommend buying. I don't want to make a mistake. (price and quality I suppose)

Awesome review. So far, everyone is comparing the base MacBook Pro M3 alongside a loaded 16" M3 Max with 48GB. This is one of the few reviews that goes deep on the M3 Pro. Much appreciated!

This review just created more questions for me about the M3 Pro. What was the problem with the error messages? Does the M3 Pro have to have more memory? Do you plan on a follow-up review using more memory on the M3 Pro? Will Apple send you a test computer? You have 1.49 million subscribers so I'm sure they would if asked. Thanks.

While Apple is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, their decision to solder the RAM and SSD on motherboard and charge a hefty price on their customer.
This design choice, while allowing for thinner and lighter devices, does mean that these components cannot be upgraded or replaced by the user.
As a result, a device may become obsolete more quickly if it cannot keep up with increasing software demands or if a component fails.
This potentially contribute on electronic waste, as users may need to replace the entire device rather than just upgrading a single component.
It’s a complex issue that balances the desire for compact, high-performing devices with the need for sustainability and waste reduction.

No ARM is a system on chip (SOC), just like phones and tablets, but no one complains. Why? Because tech has moved on from the last century modularity, that was there because that was the only solution. You must adapt to a changing world, as the norm will be a SOC.

@@andyH_Englanddon’t think anyone was actually complaining about the non-upgradable RAM on the Apple Silicon machines. But the SSD being non upgradable is inexcusable. Even when it is technically upgradable on the Mac Studio it’s still software locked. And unlike RAM, SSD would actually fail overtime, while the chance is still not very high, it’s still very possible

I'm about to purchase a new MacBook soon and I'm considering the Pro line up as I might be having some product designing and rendering work in my college, so is the base M3 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM a good choice? From where I live, a used/refurbished M2 Pro MacBook is more expensive than a brand new M3 + 16GB. Should I go for my choice or hold back?

    Crashing isn’t a new or M3-exclusive problem
I had the original M1 13” MBP (Touch Bar) and after not very long it started crashing even just exporting fairly simple videos! And I mean crashing the entire laptop, not just DaVinci or FCP
I upgraded to a 16” M1Pro soon after and haven’t looked back since! it’s still king, literally hasn’t given me one iota of trouble, and I can’t see myself needing to upgrade for another 5-7 years at minimum

Great video man..I got an indirect answer to my question. Where I live currently there is a good discount going on for unbinned M1 Pro with 1TB SSD. The difference advertised is roughly 800 USD discount bringing the MacBook to less than 1900 USD. It’s not refurbished it’s brand new as well so I am going for that. I am just curious how long will m1 line up get OS update?

I decided on just the M3 because I don't really need the processing power of the M3 Pro or Max chips - only downside is the omission of the USB C port on the right hand side - would have found it handy to charge it from that side too. I guess the upside is the extra (supposedly) 4 hour battery life.

IMHO the best purchases are a refurbed M2 Pro with 16 gigs of RAM or the binned M3 Pro with 18 gigs of RAM.
The M3 is a useless middleground for pro users and a very expensive laptop for light users

Is the screen at least better? I have the M1 Pro 14" MBP and I LOVE it. It's a fantastic laptop but one thing that bothers me a little bit is the blurry screen. What's the point of having a 120hz screen if the pixel response time is so slow that any movement on the screen results in blur? It's REALLY noticeable especially if you have a gaming high refresh rate screen that doesn't suffer from this slow pixel response time. It's night and day. The screen is very bright and colourful though so it's not trash by any means but the blur is a bit annoying.

Looking to upgrade from a 2008 intel mbp with mid spec upgrade at the time. I don’t use it for anything major, but if I want to future proof myself, do I really need 24gb of ram or will 16 be plenty? My 2008 had 4 gb of ram. It just completely died this week.

im glad it is showing good results for m3 base pro model compared to pro m2 and m3 reason being next month im attempting to get it if my m1 imac with upg ram gives me enough founds to afford it with 1000 euro in hand reason being so fast to buy is time limit and yearly upgrade, from ianuary i have many issues to attend to so i can not wait till new year and that is why im rushed since the more i wait the more i hesitate since i think of the pro and max differences where the headache starts, right now m3 base pro model start at 2000 euros and m2 pro limited stock at 2050 not alot but i may not have enough for it, and m3 pro start at 2150 which i want but ofc it all depends on my imac buyback value. regardless it is an upg compared to my imac and i wanted to start going into macbook pro anyway so even if i get weakest pro model im happy to test out latest tech inside, while ofc i wanted a max chip to properly game but right now max cost twice as much as pro. there is discont on m1 max but idk if it is worth it nor can i afford it.

Reviewers keep talking about the Space Black not being that black when they're in a studio with giant lights pointed at it. It's not vantablack or anything but I saw one at Best Buy yesterday and it's definitely darker than I expected given all the "it's just a darker space grey" comments. In a room with normal lighting, it's pretty blacked out.

Daniels doing some nice work here separating the evolution of the technology from the way Apple is productizing them. There appears to be an interesting story..Apple is trying harder to push folks upstream to Pro/Max

Or to an Air if they don’t need the power. My takeaway is they are actually trying to make the Pro for professionals and not students or basic web browsing work. Those people will be happier with the new 15” Air. They don’t need the extra power. I like the overall direction, seems to make sense.

Apple keeps lying to consumer about its “scary fast” new MBPs when it is not better than older, cheaper M2s & M1s.

Does the display of m3 pro and m2 air cause eye strain when used for long hours(8-9)?

    • @jutjub22
      @jutjub22 หลายเดือนก่อน

AIR is you best bet, well known screen - but it was mentioned by some users than PRO screen (new mini led) can cause eye strain, because it has slow pixel response time and ghost effect, it is 120Hz screen, but held back by very slow response time. (35ms to 69ms) , moving stuff (window, dragging, scrolling, fast movie scenes, gaming) content becomes blurry. But not sure how much it bothers people, most are fine with it.

MBP M1 16" 512/16 GB for $1,350 Apple Certified at Microcenter. Just picked it up yesterday and it's a dream!
Don't buy any Apple "pro" laptop with 8 GB of RAM, certainly not at the price currently.

Apple problem is that the M1 pro/max are so good that there is no real reason to upgrade, maybe at M5 or M6.
